This document describes methods for identifying cations and anions in an unknown ionic salt, including using sodium hydroxide and ammonia to observe color changes of cation precipitates, and using hydrochloric acid, silver nitrate, and barium chloride to observe color and gases produced from anion precipitates. It also discusses identifying salts based on appearance, color, solubility, and observing color changes and gases produced from heating the unknown salt. The sample salt is identified as copper(II) carbonate based on its dark green color, insolubility in water, producing a light blue precipitate in sodium hydroxide, and giving a chalky limewater gas and black residue when heated.
