Set a Google Alert for your company to keep an eye on any new news about your company over the rest of the semester. In this section of the report you should review what topics have been covered in the recent media and what the general reputation of the organization (as told through the media) seems to be.

Review what they have on their website. Of most importance is a section likely called “Press,” “Media,” or “News.” Do they provide their press releases? If so, what are some of the recent topics? Do they have any press kits, if so on what? Do they have any video or audio available?

Also include questions about formal and informal channels for communicating externally-- to customers, the media, vendors, shareholders, regulatory agencies, and suppliers. Once you pick your industry, pick an organization to focus on for the bulk of your report. For continuity, the company should be one of the five you listed for step 1. Begin with an overview of the company. What do they do, who is part of the C-suite, where are the headquarters, where do they conduct business, etc.? Who are their customers? Set a Google Alert for your company to keep an eye on any new news about your company over the rest of the semester. Semester Project: Company Financial Analysis
Project Overview: Each of you will act as financial consultants to an “investment firm,” i.e. the professor, and will choose a publicly traded company to become experts in.
You will need to let me know your choice of company as I need to make sure there is no duplication of efforts. We also have to evaluate whether the financial analysis is doable. Public companies tend to be easier to do research on than private ones.
Final choices need to be made by the second week of class. Seven weeks is all you have to complete this analysis and it goes by very quickly.
The goal of the project will be to provide a well-researched and supported financial analysis of your assigned company. You will have to perform this analysis in comparison to at least one other competitor’s performance in its industry for it to be meaningful.
At the end of the of the semester you must submit a written analysis and defend your investment recommendations.
The basic question which needs to be answered is: Would you invest money in this stock? Why or why not?
While there is no ‘right’ answer to this project, each analysis will be graded based on the thoroughness of your research, demonstration of your understanding of the company’s financial health, application of course concepts, creativity, and, most importantly, the quality of your final recommendations.
Recommendations should be logically presented in order to persuade your client to invest (or not invest) in your company of choice
Grading: First and foremost, take the time to ensure that your paper is grammatically correct.
At this level of academia, it is expected that you are able to write succinctly, accurately, and can construct and defend logical arguments.

Semester Project: Company Financial Analysis
Project Overview: Each of you will act as financial consultants to an “investment firm,” i.e. the professor, and will choose a publicly traded company to become experts in.
You will need to let me know your choice of company as I need to make sure there is no duplication of efforts. We also have to evaluate whether the financial analysis is doable. Public companies tend to be easier to do research on than private ones.
Final choices need to be made by the second week of class. Seven weeks is all you have to complete this analysis and it goes by very quickly.
The goal of the project will be to provide a well-researched and supported financial analysis of your assigned company. You will have to perform this analysis in comparison to at least one other competitor’s performance in its industry for it to be meaningful.
At the end of the of the semester you must submit a written analysis and defend your investment recommendations.
The basic question which needs to be answered is: Would you invest money in this stock? Why or why not?
While there is no ‘right’ answer to this project, each analysis will be graded based on the thoroughness of your research, demonstration of your understanding of the company’s financial health, application of course concepts, creativity, and, most importantly, the quality of your final recommendations.
Recommendations should be logically presented in order to persuade your client to invest (or not invest) in your company of choice
Grading: First and foremost, take the time to ensure that your paper is grammatically correct.
At this level of academia, it is expected that you are able to write succinctly, accurately, and can construct and defend logical arguments.
To encourage concise writing your final paper should not be more than a dozen or so pages in length.
Please use double spacing and 1 inch margins (left, right, top and bottom).
You can provide images/graphs/charts and calculations in an appendix which will not be counted as subject to the page limitation described just above.

- 1. Healthcare Support Organization Presentation Option #2: Healthcare Support Organization Presentation Develop a financial analysis of a healthcare support organization of your choosing(e.g., medical device manufacturer, pharmaceutical company, medical supply company). The intent of this assignment is to evaluate the financial and operational health of the organization and disseminate the information to the class. You may pursue, analyze, and synthesize any information source you choose (e.g., website content, personal interviews, organizational documentation). Strive to be rigorous and thorough in your research. Note: For-profit organizations are generally easier to research than not-for-profits as all financials are reportable to the Securities and Exchange Commission. Preliminary Deliverable Week 2 Identify the organization you will review and begin your analysis of the business’ location(s), competitive market(s), service lines, and business segments, for example. The assignment is iterative in nature—meaning you can build off of the work completed this week in your future deliverables. Submit 2-3 slides describing the organization and your preliminary analysis. Final Paper Instructions Upload your completed financial analysis of your chosen healthcare support organization. The intent of this assignment is to evaluate the financial and operational health of the organization and disseminate the information to the class. Projects are not limited in size, should be professional in appearance, and cover (at a minimum) the evaluation of the metrics discussed in Gapenski and Pink (2015), which are detailed in Chapter 13 in the sections about Ratio Analysis, DuPont Analysis, and Operating Indicator Analysis. You may pursue, analyze, and synthesize any information source you choose (e.g., website content, personal interviews, organizational documentation). Strive to be rigorous and thorough in your research. Your final presentation should report on the business’ location(s), competitive market(s), service lines, and business segments, for example. Unless otherwise indicated, a five-year trend analysis—including the most recent year of available information/data—is expected. Do not just report the data—tell me what it means.
