- 1. This presentation will provide information about Sweden’s government responsible for delivering healthcare to the public as well as the means to fund it. HEALTHCARE RESOURCES
- 2. Swedish Social Security Agency • Health Care • Health care is free of charge for all residence of Sweden. Details located later in powerpoint • Dental Care • Dental Care is free for all children living in Sweden until the age of 20. This includes check-ups and even braces. After 20 the resident will receive a dental care allowance for regular check-ups • Child Allowance • All children living in Sweden are entitled to child allowance which is a monthly tax-free allowance paid to the parent until the age of 16. Additional benefits are given for children with disabilities or illnesses • Elderly Care • A number of systems that provide the elderly with public support, home meal delivery, cleaning and shopping assistance as well as transportation help older people lead normal independent lives. Senior housing is also given based on need and his distributed by the municipalities.
- 3. Swedish Social Insurance Agency • Employment Benefits provided: • Maternity/fraternity leave • Leave is paid for 480 days and is intended to be shared between the mother and the father. Parents can choose how to break up this leave any time between 60 days before the due date to eight years of age. For the first 390 days, the parent will receive 80 percent of pay and will receive 180 SEK per day for the remaining 90 days. • Sick Leave • For your first day of sick leave, which is the waiting period, you will not receive any pay. For each day after that adding up to 13 days, the employer will pay 80% of your salary.

- 6. Regional Government • Sweden is divided into 21 counties which each have their own County Councils • Oversee tasks too big for local government such as Healthcare • The Councils are able to levy income taxes
- 7. Local Government • Sweden is divided in to 290 municipalities • Each municipality has an elected or assembly • Municipalities are responsible for a broad range of of facilities and services including: • Housing • Schools • Roads • Elderly and Child Care • Water supply • Public Welfare

Paying For Healthcare • The Healthcare system gives everyone who lives or works in Sweden access to heavily subsidized healthcare. • Funded by Taxpayers • Payment Method: • Doctor Visit: 100 to 200 SEK/ up to 300 SEK for a specialist • 80 SEK per day for hospital stay • Yearly limit for medical consults: 900 SEK • Yearly limit for prescription meds: 1,800 SEKk • After limit is reached care is totally FREE
- 10. Where to Access Healthcare • The people of Sweden will register with a healthcare center within the vicinity of their home. It is completely up to the individual where they would like to register. • The job of providing health care is decentralized to the counties and, in some cases, municipalities • Public care facilities are starting to compete because of a growing number of private health care providers which is covered by the social insurance agency as well
