Bullying is a unhealthy behavior with multiple manifestations. It does not discriminate against the age, ethnicity, belief system, lifestyle, and level of well-being of an individual. This unhealthy behavior usually starts early in life. Individuals can potentially exhibit and or be victimized by bullying. Most cases are underreported and not detected while the solutions exist to reduce the incidence and the prevalence of this common phenomenon. Targeting bullying in childhood and adolescence is a great determinant of healthier learners, but also of healthier and productive adult citizens.
College Students' Attitude towards Premarital Sex: Implication for Guidance a...AJSERJournal
In many African countries, discussing sexuality still remains a taboo, despite the increasing number of
sexual activities among college students. The study sought to find out college students attitude towards premarital sex
and the implication of guidance and counselling. It was guided by the social learning theory. Using a descriptive survey
design data was collected through personally delivered questionnaire to 452 students who were randomly selected
from middle level colleges in Nakuru County. The questionnaire was validated through piloting in one college outside
Nakuru. Reliability coefficient for questionnaire was estimated through test-retest method and Cronbach’s alpha stood
at R=84. Data was analyzed using qualitative and quantitative data. Study findings indicate that 258 or 57% of the
respondents were liberal about premarital sex and viewed it as a normal act that should not attract criticism. A total of
194 or 43% were conservative and believed that it is against the norms of society and the teachings of the church.
Factors associated with premarital sex, include love, peer pressure, drug abuse and economic factors. Counselling was
seen as the best strategic to handle sex issues, but was not effective due to stigma associated with premarital sex. The
study recommended the college administrators step up strategies to supervise both the social and academic life of the
students. By providing them with information, to make informed consent on sexual matters.

Adolescence Offence and Social Responsibilities: Perspective Upper Class Boys...AJHSSR Journal
ABSTRACT: Adolescence offence among upper-class boys remains shrouded in mystery. So scanty is our
knowledge of this group that a public image of the upper-class adolescent is non-existent, and neither the barest
trace nor suspicion is available of him as delinquent. Although the hard knot of delinquency (behavior that is apt
to try any public tolerance) is located in the bottom levels of the working class, limited studies (using selfreported techniques) have revealed delinquency throughout the class structure. But nothing is known about the
delinquency of boys who attend expensive private schools. The purpose of this paper is to study Bangladeshi
upper class adolescents’ involvement in different violent and criminal activities and their growing tendency to
commit acts of violence in high schools and the reasons behind them. This study therefore aims to provide such
data by attempting to understand the different influential factors that are closely related with the involvement of
adolescence offence in Bangladesh. This study is based on primary data of 200 upper class adolescents who are
involved in different criminal activities of Dhaka city, 40 parents, 30 secondary school teachers, 20 social
workers and on review of secondary literatures. After collecting the data they are transcribed, tabulated and
analyzed in terms of the research objectives. This study shows that parents’ detachment, low internet cost, social
media, reluctantness of law and enforcement agencies and friends’ influence play the most important role on
upper class adolescence offence. This study also recommends some ways to mitigate this problem.

During the past century, social policies and programs for Nigerian children, youth, and families have undergone frequent shifts in philosophy and direction. Many policy frameworks, such as selective legibility universal prevention, rehabilitation, and punishment, have contributed to the conceptual bases for services, programs, and interventions designed for young people. However, the most consistent characteristic of Nigerian social policy for children and families may be the sheer inconsistency of efforts aimed at helping the nation’s most vulnerable populations. Recent advances in understanding the developmental processes associated with the onset and persistence of childhood and adolescent problems warrant new thinking about policies and programs., we have learned more about why some children and adolescents develop social and health problems, and in the case of such problems as sexually transmitted infections, drug use, and delinquency why some youths make choices that lead to poor outcomes at home and in school and the community. Unfortunately, this knowledge is not yet systematically applied to policy or program design, which results in poorly specified, inadequately integrated, and wastefully duplicated services for children and families. The motivation for this volume comes from the growing recognition that knowledge gained from understanding the developmental trajectories of children who experience social and health problems must be used to craft more effective policies and programs.

Personality Development: Assessing the Effects of Single Parent Families on S...inventionjournals
Family structures are an important contributor to the physiological and behavioral development of students. It is hypothesized that personality development of students living with single parent is influenced by the type of family structure, parent with whom the child lives with and the amount of time spent by parents with their children. To investigate such influence, this study employed a cross-sectional co-relational research design. A snow ball sampling technique was used to identify respondents for sample. The study used a sample 60 students whereby 50% were from single parent homes and 50% from intact homes. Data was collected by use of questionnaire designed to identify factors that contribute to personality development of students. Personality development was measured using the Big Five dimensions of personality trait parameters namely openness, conscientiousness, extraversion, agreeableness, neuroticism. The analysis was presented using frequencies, percentages, t-test, independent test and one way ANOVA tests. Statistical Package for Social Sciences was used to aid in generating a summary of results which were represented in tabular form. The findings of the study showed that there was very little influence of family structure on the personality development of the students. The absence of a parent or the interaction and involvement of parents with their children doesn’t have an immense effect on the personality development of the children, thus the amount of time spent by parents with their children doesn’t influence the personality development of students. The results also revealed that the major causes of the existence of single parent families are death and divorce.

UNICEF has highlighted how children suffer violence throughout all stages of childhood and adolescence, in different contexts, and often at the hands of people they trust and interact with on a daily basis.
Violent corporal punishment, 300 million children between 2 and 4 years old in the world regularly suffer violence from their family/guardians (about 3 out of 4), 250 million of these are punished physically (about 6 out of 10).
Sexual violence, Sexual violence occurs against children of all ages: 15 million girls aged 15 to 19 have experienced incidents of sexual violence in their lives, and 2.5 million young women in 28 European countries report having suffered episodes of sexual violence before the age of 15.

With the release of the Netflix drama 13 Reasons Why in March 2017, social workers from middle schools to colleges and universities across the country found themselves plunged into conversations with adolescents and young adults around topics related to suicide. While many mental health professionals objected strongly to the series, saying it contains harmful messages about the inevitability of suicide, the ability to achieve revenge through suicide, the absence of helpful others, and insufficient messages about the availability of help and support, most professionals acknowledged that, apart from these concerns, the series opened a space for conversation on a topic that is shrouded in stigma, fear, pain, and misunderstanding.
By having an accurate understanding of the scope of the problem, confronting myths and imprecise language, and using best practices in screening, intervention, and prevention, social workers have a critical role in helping children, adolescents, and young adults move through a suicidal crisis to emotional wellness.
Data on Suicide
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), suicide was the 10th-leading cause of death for all ages in 2013. Suicide was the third-leading cause of death among persons aged 10 to 14, and the second among persons aged 15 to 34, though middle-aged adults accounted for the largest proportion of suicides (56% in 2011). The percentage of adults having serious thoughts about suicide was highest among adults aged 18 to 25 (7.4%), followed by adults aged 26 to 49 (4%), then by adults aged 50 and older (2.7%) (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 2015).
The following were noted among students in grades nine through 12 during 2013:
• Seventeen percent of students seriously considered attempting suicide in previous 12 months (22.4% of females and 11.6% of males).
• 13.6% of students made a plan about how they would attempt suicide in the previous 12 months (16.9% of females and 10.3% of males).
• Eight percent of students attempted suicide one or more times in previous 12 months (10.6% of females and 5.4% of males).
• 2.7% of students made a suicide attempt that resulted in an injury, poisoning, or an overdose that required medical attention (3.6% of females and 1.8% of males) (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 2015).
New research presented in May 2017 at the Pediatric Academic Societies Meeting analyzed hospital admissions with a diagnosis of suicidal thoughts or behaviors and serious self-harm from 32 children's hospitals across that nation from 2008 to 2015. Researchers found the number of admissions has more than doubled during the past decade. 3. Psychosocial Development
Erikson: identity vs. role confusion
• Adolescents recognize they are unique individuals and begin to develop a
sense of personal identity
• Group identity: building psychological connections with peers and identifying
as part of a group resulting in influential behavior
• Erikson’s theory suggests that those
who remain unsure of their beliefs,
sexuality, roles, and desires will
remain insecure and confused about
themselves, their role in society and
the future. This is known as role
confusion. This can also cause
significant delays in establishing
meaningful and healthy relationships
(Mcleod, 2017)
4. Sexual Identity
• Begins with close, same-sex friendships. This may lead to sexual
exploration and experimentation driven by curiosity.
• Another form of exploration is self exploration through
masturbation
• Eventually, friendships (same sex or opposite sex) transition into
intimate relationships
• All of these experiences, emotions, and ability to understand
them form the adolescents perception of self in regards to
sexuality.
Body Image
• Base their own perception on comparisons
• This image is typically sustained throughout their lifetime

Risk prone health behavior related to low self efficacy as evident by increase in
violence, suicide, substance abuse, and unsafe sexual practices.

• According to the CDC, suicide among adolescent girls has increased by 45% since 1999 and 16% in
adolescent boys. (Curtins, 2016)
• Nationwide, 16.2% of students had carried a weapon (e.g., gun, knife, or club)
• Nationwide, 4.1% of students had carried a weapon (e.g., a gun, knife, or club) on school property
• Nationwide, 22.6% of students had been in a physical fight one or more times
• Nationwide, 6.0% of students had been threatened or injured with a weapon (e.g., a gun, knife, or club) on
school property
• Nationwide, 20.2% of students had been bullied on school property
• 29.9% of students nationwide had felt so sad or hopeless almost every day for 2 or more weeks in a row

before last sexual intercourse
• Nationwide, 63.2% of students had had at least one drink of alcohol on at least 1 day during their life. (CDC,
2016)
• Since Sandy Hook in 2012, there have been at least 239 school shootings nationwide. In those episodes,
438 people were shot, 138 of whom were killed. (Patel, 2018)

health outcomes are frequently both behaviorally mediated and linked to
multiple social factors.

begin by age 14 and 75% begin by age 24. Suicide is now the leading cause of
death in AYAs
