This workshop will introduce Fathers and Families of San Joaquin’s Trauma Recovery Center and their partnership with Stockton Unified School District and AmeriCorps to implement a comprehensive Transformative Healing Initiative in seven South Stockton schools. Participants will learn how the program is creating healthier school climates and reductions in student discipline while promoting student leadership and empowerment. This session will include an overview of the initiative and practical organizing strategies that provide the foundation for the partnership.

Coursework in health provides individuals with information and skills that willfacilitate development
of optimal health and well-being at the individual, socialand community level. Health is not merely
the absence of disease but a stateof complete physical, mental, social, intellectual and spiritual well-
being.Students of Health explore the well-being of the individual and the communityfrom a multi-
dimensional perspective.
Health courses are offered at each of PCC's three comprehensive campuses,the Southeast Center
and online. Classes range from general health overviewcourses such as personal health, community
health and fitness to specialtycourses such as first aid, stress,and children's, men's and
women'shealth.

Transferable Credits
Although PCC does not offer a degree in health, health courses are lower divisioncollegiate courses
that transfer to a four-year college or university. Healthcourses may transfer as:

Students can earn a Health Studies Focus Award which prepares them to pursue healthstudies and
related programs at the bachelor level. In Oregon, health studiesand related programs can be found
at Portland State University, OHSU, OregonState University, other schools in the Oregon University
System and privatecolleges. Please refer to those schools' websites or talk with your
academicadvisor for more details about transferring in this subject area.

The required and elective courses for the Health Studies Focus Award are availableon each campus
