Health care social media landscape involves several emerging communities focused on different aspects of health and medicine. These include Health 2.0 focused on startups and challenges, Medicine 2.0 taking an academic approach, e-Patients focused on advocacy and patient communities, HCSM focused on marketing, and Pharma 2.0 focused on social media marketing from pharmaceutical companies within FDA regulations. There is also overlap between these communities as social media becomes more pervasive in health care.

This paper explores the history, benefits, and challenges of Health 2.0/Medicine 2.0, which refers to the use of internet tools like search, blogs, podcasts, tagging, wikis, and social networks in healthcare. It allows for information sharing between medical professionals, patients, and businesses. While facilitating access to information and remote care, challenges include loss of control over data, safety issues, and patients delaying care due to inaccurate online information.

Health 2.0 has evolved from concepts of Web 2.0, which facilitates interactive information sharing and collaboration online. Health 2.0 similarly uses tools like social media, blogs, and online communities to promote collaboration between patients, doctors, and other healthcare stakeholders. It allows patients to research conditions, read reviews of doctors, track health records, compare insurance plans, and communicate directly with doctors and other patients. Freelance medical writers can benefit from using social media to stay up-to-date and network with colleagues. A survey of freelance medical writers found that LinkedIn, Facebook, and Twitter were the most commonly used platforms. However, many writers do not utilize social media tools or bookmarks. Writers indicated that social media is mostly used for exchanging information, professional development, and staying current on news and research. On average, writers spend 1-6 hours per week on social media. Webinars and listservs are also valuable resources that help writers learn. Continued monitoring of social media's role in healthcare is important for writers to adapt to changes in the field.

Perficient Perspectives: The Evolution of Social Media in Healthcare
Healthcare organizations continue to navigate the transforming healthcare industry and identify new avenues to engage with consumers outside of the facility walls. In a fast-paced, information-dominated world, successfully interacting with consumers may seem like a daunting task. The key is to connect with consumers where they are and provide them with actionable health and wellness information they need to live a healthier life.
When you think of social media in healthcare you might think it is a tool for marketing, but it goes much farther than that. Sure, social media can be used to attract and retain consumers, but social media can also be a powerful tool to reduce healthcare costs and help with chronic disease and population health management.
Healthcare organizations are in varying stages of becoming social enterprises, from social innovators like Mayo Clinic to those beginning the journey to developing a comprehensive social media strategy.
In this perspective, we take a look at the evolution of social media in healthcare and discuss what social media in healthcare will look like in the future.
Health Communication in CMC

Digital Medicine Year in review 2019

He also provided information on partnering with health systems, getting products to scale, involving patients in co-design, the FDA's digital health precertification program, developing digital evidence, and standards for data integration like FHIR and Continua Design Guidelines.

How Interconnectivity Is Enabling The Future Of Patient-Driven Health
1) Connected health technologies like wearables, home devices, and remote patient monitoring apps have the potential to transform chronic disease management by allowing patients to manage conditions at home independently.
2) Remote patient monitoring is increasingly being used to monitor chronic conditions like congestive heart failure and is showing success in reducing hospital admissions. Technologies also support healthy aging by enabling aging in place.
3) While connectivity offers opportunities, deploying and managing these systems poses challenges for providers and patients regarding technical support, data security and privacy, and maintaining remote monitoring equipment.

Defining the Evidence for Personal Connected Health

Recommendations include increasing study sizes, developing consensus guidelines for research in this field, and further validating apps and devices through comparative studies to help address current evidence gaps.

Defining the Evidence for Personal Connected Health
PCHAlliance conducted a systematic review of published literature to gather the available data on health outcome measures, reviewing over 1,450 citations. Fifty-three randomized controlled studies and trials were selected for analysis, on topics related to mobile technologies, remote patient monitoring, web-based counseling and other personal connected health technologies. This publication aims to set an initial baseline for the current body of evidence in personal connected health in key areas, namely behavior change and self-care, remote patient monitoring, remote counseling and mental health, as well as more broadly through key condition-specific studies.

The Internet of Things (IoT) is the latest buzzword out of the interface between information technology and business. As technologies like Bluetooth and sensors enable connections between devices and networks, innovation has brought connections between devices and a human interface. In healthcare, this has been termed the Internet of Medical Things or Healthy things. Medical devices and consumer health devices generate data which can be analyzed, synthesized and displayed for the consumer and healthcare provider to get a broader picture of one’s health. Everything from fitness devices to glucose monitors can give us information about our current health status as never before. How this will integrate into a clinician’s workflow is a new journey of discovery as medical practice catches up with these innovations.

Health IT plays a key role in personalized medicine by (1) creating large cancer-specific data registries to identify effective treatments for specific cancers, (2) improving clinical trial efficiency through better recruitment and feasibility tools, and (3) using mobile health tools to gather new types of data from trial participants. Health IT can also bring the promise of personalized medicine to more patients by providing better information about available clinical trials and empowering patients through electronic medical records, patient portals, and online communities that support clinical trials.

Cancer remains one of the leading causes of death worldwide, prompting the need for innovative treatment methods. Nanotechnology offers promising new approaches, including the use of gold nanoparticles (nanogold) for targeted cancer therapy. Nanogold particles possess unique physical and chemical properties that make them suitable for drug delivery, imaging, and photothermal therapy.
Breast cancer: Post menopausal endocrine therapy
Breast cancer in postmenopausal women with hormone receptor-positive (HR+) status is a common and complex condition that necessitates a multifaceted approach to management. HR+ breast cancer means that the cancer cells grow in response to hormones such as estrogen and progesterone. This subtype is prevalent among postmenopausal women and typically exhibits a more indolent course compared to other forms of breast cancer, which allows for a variety of treatment options.
Diagnosis and Staging
The diagnosis of HR+ breast cancer begins with clinical evaluation, imaging, and biopsy. Imaging modalities such as mammography, ultrasound, and MRI help in assessing the extent of the disease. Histopathological examination and immunohistochemical staining of the biopsy sample confirm the diagnosis and hormone receptor status by identifying the presence of estrogen receptors (ER) and progesterone receptors (PR) on the tumor cells.
Staging involves determining the size of the tumor (T), the involvement of regional lymph nodes (N), and the presence of distant metastasis (M). The American Joint Committee on Cancer (AJCC) staging system is commonly used. Accurate staging is critical as it guides treatment decisions.
Treatment Options
Endocrine Therapy
Endocrine therapy is the cornerstone of treatment for HR+ breast cancer in postmenopausal women. The primary goal is to reduce the levels of estrogen or block its effects on cancer cells. Commonly used agents include:
Selective Estrogen Receptor Modulators (SERMs): Tamoxifen is a SERM that binds to estrogen receptors, blocking estrogen from stimulating breast cancer cells. It is effective but may have side effects such as increased risk of endometrial cancer and thromboembolic events.
Aromatase Inhibitors (AIs): These drugs, including anastrozole, letrozole, and exemestane, lower estrogen levels by inhibiting the aromatase enzyme, which converts androgens to estrogen in peripheral tissues. AIs are generally preferred in postmenopausal women due to their efficacy and safety profile compared to tamoxifen.
Selective Estrogen Receptor Downregulators (SERDs): Fulvestrant is a SERD that degrades estrogen receptors and is used in cases where resistance to other endocrine therapies develops.
Combination Therapies
Combining endocrine therapy with other treatments enhances efficacy. Examples include:
Endocrine Therapy with CDK4/6 Inhibitors: Palbociclib, ribociclib, and abemaciclib are CDK4/6 inhibitors that, when combined with endocrine therapy, significantly improve progression-free survival in advanced HR+ breast cancer.
Endocrine Therapy with mTOR Inhibitors: Everolimus, an mTOR inhibitor, can be added to endocrine therapy for patients who have developed resistance to aromatase inhibitors.
Chemotherapy
Chemotherapy is generally reserved for patients with high-risk features, such as large tumor size, high-grade histology, or extensive lymph node involvement. Regimens often include anthracyclines and taxanes.
