    HAYA
HAYA prepared by: Pakistan Islamic medical Association (women wing) Al-haya minal- iman muhim June2009.
Have you ever thought? Why are we getting frustrated ?
Why do we feel insecure?
Why crime rate is on rise?
Are you going to believe? Just a simple four letter word can change your whole life.
“HAYA”
What is HAYA? Haya..... Arabic term derived from “Hayat” means life
Mostly translated as…….. Modesty, Shamefulness Shyness. Unlike shyness does not mean lack of self-confidence.
MODESTY? ,[object Object], linked to the Latin modestus, ‘keeping within measure’, ,[object Object],“ behavior, manner, or appearance intended to avoid indecency”
[object Object],true modesty: fear and obey Allah in all things large and small, public and private.
Haya = Inner modesty+ outer modesty
Person having Haya! Ashamed to commit a crime or a thing which Allah and His Messenger (sallallahu 'alayhi wasallam) has forbidden.
'Be shy of Allah’ Hazrat Abdullah ibn Mas'ud relates that one day the Prophet said, 'Be shy of Allah (God) Most High as much as is His due.' The companions present said, 'All praise to Allah, we are shy of Him.' The Prophet said, 'That is not the point.
“Whoever is shy of Allah as much as is His due, he should protect his head and that which it comprises (i.e. mind, mouth, ears), his stomach and that which is adjoining it (i.e. preserve it from unlawful wealth and protect the private parts from the unlawful), and he should remember death and that which is to come after it; and whoever desires the Hereafter should abandon the adornments of this world. Whoever fulfills these duties has been shy of Allah as much as is His due.'" (Musnad Ahmad)
Criteria's of Haya Don’t Think ,talk and listen that displeases Allah! Avoid unlawful wealth Protect private parts Remember death Abandon adornments of this world
Haya and Islam
Haya and Islam It’s a distinctive feature of Islam “Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him, said that every way of life has its distinct character and for Islam it is Haya (Muwatta)”.
Hayain the light of Quran
Hayain the light of Quran "Verily, those who love that indecency should spread among the believers deserve a painful chastisement in the world and in the Hereafter. Allah knows, but you do not know."Al-Nur (The Light) Chapter 24: Verse 19 إِنَّ الَّذِينَ يُحِبُّونَ أَنْ تَشِيعَ الْفَاحِشَةُ فِي الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا لَهُمْ عَذَابٌ أَلِيمٌ فِي الدُّنْيَا وَالْآخِرَةِ ۚ وَاللَّهُ يَعْلَمُ وَأَنْتُمْ لَا تَعْلَمُونَ
Haya in the light of Hadith
HAYA for faith And Faith for jannah Modesty is part of Faith and Faith is in Paradise. But obscenity is part of hardness of the heart and hardness of the heart is in hell.” (Reported by Imran bin Hussain)
“Surely Allah (is One who) has haya and is the Protector. He loves haya and people who cover each others faults."(Bukhari)
“ Haya is the fruit of faith”. (Bukhari, Muslim)
Narrated by Abu Huraira (ra): The Prophet said, "Faith (Belief) consists of more than sixty branches (i.e. parts). And Haya is a part of faith."(Bukhari)
"Haya' (modesty) and Iman (faith) are two that go together. If one is lifted, the other is also lifted."[Recorded by al-Hakim]
Haya…. Keep asking The Prophet (saws) said: "Haya and Trustworthiness will be the first to go from this world; therefore keep asking Allah for them." (Baihaqi)
Changing trends A decline of modesty.
Modesty in western society Modest dressing. Modesty in conduct Presence of Family system.
Modern west Modesty goes behind. Free to dress/undress. A sex free society. Marriage considered a burden/restriction to their freedom
The price they pay!
           Haya freeSociety
….a vicious circle that leads to the ultimate death of morality
A view on statistics…….
One out of every six American women has been the victim of an attempted or completed rape in her lifetime.(Source: Rape, Abuse & Incest National Network) ,[object Object],[object Object]

Woman killed by boyfriend, police say Four neighbors said they heard the couple yelling at various times. By LORRI HELFANDPublished September 30, 2005
the feminist have effectively won the battle eradicating modesty as a womanly virtue in America, and that the successful eradication can be directly correlated with the rise of crimes and abuses against women today. (book,” A Return to Modesty” by Wendy Shalit)
“O Prophet! Tell thy wives and daughters, and the believing women that they should cast their outer garments over their persons (when abroad); that is most convenient, that they should be known (as such) and not molested. And Allah is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful.”[Al-Quran 33:59]
Pakistani society Same path Same journey Same destiny
How Haya protects you? Its just like anti-inflammatory drug which works on inflammatory mediators to stop the inflammation. Haya works on all the mediators that leads to immodesty ,vulgarity and adultery.
Mediators of immodesty Adultery of Eyes Adultery of Heart Adultery of Hands Adultery of Ears, music etc
Haya stops all these mediators Extramarital sex is considered a major sin in Islam, and Muslims are encouraged to marry.
Quranic ADVICE “And come not near to adultery Lo! it is an abomination and an evil way” (32-17)
Is Haya a private affair? Haya is not morality to be imposed, but something that must arise from within a people. But at the same time, it is not a private affair. It is an established and accepted social morality which members of society collectively regard as desirable.
Examples of Haya in a society Public Haya is the reason that even in secular Muslim countries you will not find collective shower rooms in school dorms, community gyms,
men and women prefer to be seen and treated by a doctor of the same gender.
Muslim men and women avoid situations where they will be alone with a non-related member of the opposite sex. you will not find the demonstration of public affection between spouses in public.
HAYA is the organ through which any society mediates its moral values Importance of Haya
Spiritual wall It’s a barrier against evil
“Haya doesn’t bring any thing except good (Muslim,Bukhari)
Society enriched with haya
How to attain Haya(modesy)? Modesty in Conduct and behaviour. Modesty in dressing. Modesty in Conversation. Attitude toward opposite gender.
قُلْ لِلْمُؤْمِنِينَ يَغُضُّوا مِنْ أَبْصَارِهِمْ وَيَحْفَظُوافُرُوجَهُمْ ۚ ذَٰلِكَ أَزْكَىٰ لَهُمْ ۗ إِنَّ اللَّهَ خَبِيرٌ بِمَا يَصْنَعُونَ "Tell the believing men to lower their gaze and be modest. That is purer for them. Lo! God is aware of what they do..."
            Dressing
Purpose of dressing…… “O children of Adam, We have provided you with garments to cover your bodies, as well as for luxury. But the best garment is the garment of righteousness. These are some of God's signs, that they may take heed.” (Al-A`raf 7:26)
Manners of dressing in Islam
six criteria ,[object Object],Loose not reveal the figures not be transparent not resemble that of the opposite sex not resemble that of the unbelievers
six criteria: 1-Extent: The first criterion is the extent of the body that should be covered, it is called satr The code of Satr This is different for men and women. For maleThe extent of covering obligatory on the male is to cover the body at least from the navel to the knees. For women, the extent of covering obligatory is to cover the complete body except the face and the hands up to the wrist.
Muslim women's satr/dress code Narrated Aisha, Ummul Mu'minin: "Asma bint Abu Bakr entered upon the Apostle of Allah while she was wearing thin clothes. The Apostle of Allah turned his attention from her. He said: ‘O Asma', when a woman reaches the age of menstruation, it does not suit her that she displays her parts of body except this and this,’ and he pointed to her face and hands." (Sunnan Abu Dawud 32:4092)
Does our dress fulfill the Islamic dress code?
Attitude towards oppositegender
Modesty in Conversation Avoid flirtatious speech and conduct
What is Hijab? The word "hijab" comes from the Arabic word "hajaba" meanings: cover conceal, hide screenand shelter
Based on the Qur’an and ahadith, most scholars agree that Muslim women should cover their hair and wear outer garments outside the home and in the presence of men whom they would be eligible to marry.
‘Hijab’ of the clothes should be accompanied by ‘hijab’ of the eyes , ‘hijab’ of the heart, ‘hijab’ of thought and ‘hijab’ of intention. It also includes the way a person walks, the way a person talks, the way he behaves, etc.
Limitations or blessings? Make Muslim women & men more decent and honorable Protecting society from lustful desires. Stabilization of family system
what to do? Say No to vulgarity. choose Haya (modesty) in every sphere of your life.
Allah has protected fruits by covering them
And pearls by making hard shells around them
So why not the Muslim women should be protected by……….. HIJAB
The most precious one!
Jazakillah
