I have also learned strict sanitation regulations and how to maintain a clean, professional environment.
Moving data into Hadoop involves transferring large amounts of data from various sources into the Hadoop distributed file system (HDFS) for storage and processing. Common sources of data include relational databases, log files, websites, and sensor data. The data must be extracted, transformed, and loaded into HDFS using tools like Sqoop, Flume, and Spark Streaming to make it accessible to Hadoop applications and analytics tools.

Liposomes are microscopic phospholipid bubbles with a bilayered membrane structure that can be used to deliver drugs. Developments over the past 50 years have led to their use in clinical applications. Modifications like PEG coating and attaching ligands allow for long-circulating liposomes and targeted delivery to specific cells. New ligands under investigation include antibodies, folate, transferrin, and growth factors to target receptors overexpressed on tumor cells. pH-sensitive liposomes are also an area of focus to release drugs intracellularly.

Chinua Achebe was a Nigerian novelist considered the father of modern African literature. His most famous novel, Things Fall Apart, published in 1958, tells the story of Okonkwo, a leader in a late 19th century Igbo village in Nigeria. The novel explores the clash between Igbo culture and the arrival of European missionaries and colonial government. It examines the breakdown of traditional Igbo social structures and religion in the face of Christian conversion and colonialism. The document provides historical context on Achebe, Igbo culture and religion, British colonization of Nigeria, and the setting of the novel in a late 19th century Igbo village.

Wat werkt in leesonderwijs aan laaggeletterde anderstalige jongeren?Jordi Casteleyn
Taaldag CNO 2020, Universiteit Antwerpen

This document outlines the plan for the end of the year for Bv5b literature students. It provides details on scheduling, reading assignments, and assessments for both Standard Level and Higher Level students. Key points include:
- Standard Level students will study Othello and have one written task, while Higher Level students will study both Othello and Heart of Darkness and complete two written tasks.
- Reading assignments and deadlines are outlined for completing Heart of Darkness for Higher Level students.
- Plans are provided for focus of instruction, written tasks, and practice for Internal Oral Commentaries for the remainder of the school year and heading into the following year.
- Non-IB students will
This document provides guidance on analyzing a text and writing a commentary paper. It outlines the key elements to analyze, including audience, purpose, content, tone, structure, and stylistic devices. It recommends analyzing how these different elements work together and are influenced by each other. For example, how does the context influence the purpose, message, tone and mood? It then provides instructions on organizing a paper based on the analysis, choosing two or more topics to discuss in depth, with a preference for those on the left side of the diagram shown.
This document provides guidance on how to structure a quick oral interpretation commentary (IOC) in 3 minutes or less. It recommends using the "Big 5" analysis approach and focusing on adjectives, verbs, sentence structure, narration vs dialogue, and passage organization. The writer should decide on a thesis about the passage's theme, setting, characters, or plot. The introduction should identify the passage, its context, and state the thesis. The body can be organized by parts of the passage or elements like tone, diction, symbols and specific devices, using examples and explaining their effect. The conclusion should simply signal the end and open to questions.
The document provides instructions for a written task assignment related to the book Cat's Cradle by Kurt Vonnegut. Students must choose a topic and write an 800-1000 word creative assignment in the form of a specific text type, such as a travel guide, magazine article, blog, or letters to the editor. They must also write a 200-300 word rationale analyzing their understanding of the source text and chosen text type. The assignment aims to demonstrate comprehension of both the book and conventions of the chosen genre.
This document provides marking notes for a comparative analysis of two texts about fathers' relationships with their daughters. The marking notes outline what constitutes an adequate, good, and excellent analysis. An adequate analysis would identify the common theme of fathers struggling in their relationships with daughters and compare attitudes and references to money. A good analysis would provide more depth, such as analyzing causes of dissatisfaction or commenting on techniques used to influence readers. An excellent analysis could further discuss forms/styles, audiences, purposes, and importance of money in more detail. Common pitfalls include insufficiently supported comments, conflating tone and effect, and lack of organization in proving the overriding point about the fathers' struggles.
The document provides tips for the IB Paper 2 exam, comparing the grading criteria between the SE and IB exams. It notes some common pitfalls students should avoid, such as not providing enough context or discussing effects on the reader. It also discusses how to effectively address and analyze the question. Specific examples are given from The Things They Carried and Women at Point Zero to illustrate how to avoid pitfalls and what higher-level responses might look like. Overall, the document aims to help students understand how to structure their essay, apply the assessment criteria, and earn higher marks on the Paper 2 exam.
Advertising has evolved over thousands of years from simple images identifying businesses in ancient times to the complex, targeted, data-driven advertising seen today. Early advertising involved location-based signs and handbills, while the Industrial Revolution led to mass-produced goods and the need to promote products on a large scale. Modern advertising developed in the late 19th/early 20th century with radio and television, and continues to adapt with new technologies and focus more on personalization through data collection and electronic media. The functions of advertising are to promote brand awareness, differentiate products, and ultimately influence consumers to respond as advertisers intend.
The document discusses various techniques used in filmmaking to tell visual stories. It begins by explaining that films use pictures and sounds, in addition to words, to convey meaning. It then covers concepts like mise-en-scène, cinematography, editing techniques, narrative structures, and semiotics - how meaning is constructed through signs and symbols in film. Overall, the document illustrates that film is a complex visual text that uses multiple artistic and technical elements purposefully arranged to immerse viewers in fictional worlds and communicate ideas.
This document provides guidance on constructing a successful Paper 2 for Literature. It recommends using a 5-paragraph essay structure with an introductory paragraph stating the works and thesis, followed by body paragraphs on each of three stylistic features from the works. The introductory paragraph should frame the question, name the works, and state the three stylistic features. Each body paragraph should focus on one stylistic feature from each work and provide examples to support the thesis. The conclusion should revisit the thesis and discuss the wider significance. Following this structure can help earn full marks for organization but the works must receive equal coverage and quality of analysis is also important to achieve high marks across other criteria.
This document provides guidance on constructing a successful Paper 2 for the IB Literature exam. Following this structure can help earn full marks for organization but the essay must also provide equal coverage of both works to succeed.
This document outlines the requirements and process for a literature critical study unit on the novel "The Stone Gods." It discusses that students will closely examine literary texts through textual analysis and critical literacy. They will explore literary works in detail, analyze themes and ethical stances, and understand appropriate literary terms. When reading the novel, students will consider how it exhibits dystopian characteristics and discusses themes like beauty/sexuality and the destruction of earth. They will analyze passages in class groups and present their analysis.

3. The Oral Exam
SE Week #3
Done in pairs (you choose your partner)
Total length: 15 minutes
Format:
Monologue #1 (3-4 minutes)
Monologue #2 (3-4 minutes)
Conversation between you and your partner (4-6 minutes)
3-way conversation with teacher (3 minutes)
25% of your SE mark
4. Grading Criteria
The oral exam tests two skills:
Spreekvaardigheid (speaking)
Gespreksvaardigheid (conversing)
Speaking is graded on:
Range (woordenschat en woordgebruik)
Accuracy (grammatica)
Fluency and pronunciation (vloeiendheid en uitspraak)
Coherence (coherentie)
Gespreksvaardigheid is graded on
All of the above, plus
Interaction (interactie) – your ability to understand and sustain a conversation with
someone
5. Requirements
CEFR (ERK level B1+)
Watch Eelco speak: this would be a 5,5*: http://www.erk.nl/docent/training/Engels/en-spr-02/
*Eelco had no preparation time for his monologue – you will need to be better since you do have
time to prepare (different criteria for spontaneous and prepared monologue)
6. Monologue and dialogue preparation
Each student prepares a monologue on two topics
The topics must be different but may be related
The topics must be based on articles of at least 800 words length each.
You and your partner may not choose the same articles (but you may choose the same
one as someone else in the class or another class)
The subject must be newsworthy and/or socially relevant.
Topics must be approved before 24 February or I will choose your topic(s)
Articles must be handed in before 9 March or -1 willl be deducted from your grade.
Lessons will be given on how to prepare for the oral. Class time will be given to you to
allow you to prepare and to practice.
You will be told which topic to discuss at the oral – no extra preparation time.
You may not use any notes during the oral.
7. The monologue (3-4 minutes)
Introduce and explain the topic of the article(s) to your
partner and the teacher, assuming that both have no
knowledge on the topic at all.
Summarize the content of the article(s), giving, if present,
the opinions of the writer(s).
Explain what your opinion is on this topic and why you
have that opinion.
Should not be recited – make it sound natural!
8. The dialogue (4-6 minutes)
The dialogue should be about the two monologues.
Listen to the monologue of your partner, and
Ask him/her questions to get more information about
what was said
Ask him/her questions to better understand what
his/her opinion is
Debate/disagree with his opinion, explaining why
Equal time does not need to be spent on each topic,
but speakers should play equal roles and speak
equally. The speaker who dominates the
monologue gets the better mark.
Should not sound over-rehearsed. Make it natural!
9. The three-way conversation (3-6 minutes)
May be about the topics or may just be
general conversation
In your monologue/dialogue, give hints
about topics such as hobbies, lands you’ve
visited, your background, pets, sports for the
teacher to ask about
Play an equal role: don’t just wait for
questions from the teacher, ask him/her
your own.
Make it natural!

11. Procedure
You may not bring any papers or notes into the examination.
To score above 2 on any criteria, you must:
Speak naturally, do not recite a memorized text
Be able to speak your monologue for at least 3 minutes at a fairly natural pace (with pauses)
Be able to converse with your partner for at least 4 minutes at a fairly natural pace
To score 6 on any criteria you must:
Use appropriate vocabulary without having to search for words

Be able to speak calmly at a smooth, even pace with only occasional long pauses
Be an equal partner in the conversation, also with the teacher
If the teacher needs to intervene early, it is not a good sign!
If your partner is ill, you will have to do the oral alone with the teacher. Your partner will fail (no
resit for the orals) – Art. 18.1, Examenreglement
If you are both ill, you will both fail (no resit)
If you are late, the time comes from your oral, with all consequences for grading.
