DESCRIPTION OF YOUR DUTIES.
Ensure a coherent of professional development and curriculum evaluation for the Field. This will be
through needs analysis, which will draw on Agency wide studies and findings: research, such as
classroom observation; drop out; monitoring of learning achievement i.e. the MLA and its findings;
results review i.e. the achievement of the Agency and the Field specifically against the core indicators and
their implications; and Field specific studies. The role of this Unit will also be to keep abreast of research,
globally and regionally with regards what we know about effective teaching and learning and share and
reflect this in their operation planning. The Unit will be responsible for operational planning of all in-
service/professional development, i.e. they will determine the roll out of programmes such as SBTD, LftF,
HRCRT, Inclusive Education, as well as Field specific training. The Unit will also directly interact/
support the key cadres who are responsible for supporting the teachers-most usually the Education
Specialists; this will mean training, coaching etc. The unit will also be responsible for ensuring the
programmes are monitored and evaluated and that the findings feed back into the operational planning.
Further they will have a key role with regard to measuring the overall-impact programmes. (The
Education Specialists are the cadre who will deliver the training, carry out the classroom observations,
and read teacher portfolios etc.).
The second strategic focus for this unit is that of curriculum evaluation and enrichment. The Unit will
determine the Field level evaluation plan for textbooks, using the Curriculum Framework, and then
ensure that all evaluations are of the required quality and that findings impact on the teaching and
learning in tangible ways-including through the development of curriculum material- and are
systematically fed back to the chief and to HQ where appropriate.
