Halloween originated over 2000 years ago in Ireland when people believed evil spirits would haunt them on a certain night. They began celebrating Halloween to appease these spirits. The holiday later incorporated beliefs from Christianity about Satan claiming souls for hell one night each year, as well as Celtic traditions of the dead returning to visit places they lived on a night when witches and ghosts walked the earth.
