The railway flood in 1936
The only problem in this area seems to
have been created by the construction of
the railway in 1850.At that time Monken
Mead was diverted through a substantial
culvert about 300 metres long which runs
under what is now Bartrams Lane, Hadley
Wood railway station and the tennis
courts and car park of the Hadley Wood
Association.The base of the culvert is
