LEED is a green building rating system developed by the U.S. Green Building Council to improve performance in energy savings, water efficiency, reducing CO2 emissions, and indoor environmental quality. LEED for Homes is a third-party verification system that measures a home's performance in areas like site selection, water efficiency, materials and resources, and energy use to provide a green certification. Habitat for Humanity, with support from the Home Depot Foundation, built an extremely energy-efficient house certified as LEED Platinum, which at $175,000 may be the most affordable home to receive this highest level of certification.
