Creating Engaging Information Literacy Tutorials

Academic and public librarians are increasingly recognizing the value of online tutorials as a means of providing patrons with the ability to learn information literacy concepts and explore library tools at their own pace and at the point of need. However, a static tutorial video cannot compete with the dynamic, engaging information content that patrons encounter in their everyday lives, and they often fail to produce lasting learning. Studies have shown that providing students with content that requires interaction and participation more successfully keeps their attention and ensures more permanent recall. This presentation demonstrates several steps librarians can take in creating online tutorials to make them more engaging for patrons and, in turn, more useful.

Roles of perceived fit and perceived individual learning support in students’ weblogs continuance usage intention. Princely Ifinedo. Abstract Weblogs (or blogs) are increasingly being used in higher educational contexts. Not much is known about the factors that influence students’ continued usage intention of weblogs. This study uses the expectation-confirmation model (ECM) as its background theoretical framework, and explores the roles of antecedent factors of perceived fit and perceived individual learning support in the research model. A cross-sectional survey was used to collect data from 108 undergraduate students taking a management information systems (MIS) course in a small university in Canada. Relevant hypotheses on the subject matter were formulated and tested. The partial least squares (PLS) technique was used for data analysis. The results strongly support the proposed hypotheses, indicating that perceived fit, perceived individual learning support, perceived usefulness, confirmation, and satisfaction have positive effects on students’ continued usage intentions of Weblogs. The findings of this study have practical and theoretical implications, which are succinctly discussed, and suggestions for future research outlined. The review draws on a large corpus of literature and recent research evidence to identify the principal elements and features of teacher professional learning and the underlying affordances of Web 2.0 technologies and applications. It examines how professional learning for English teachers could be supported with Web 2.0 technologies in general, and blogs in particular, through ways that might have significant benefits over traditional face-to-face teacher professional development. The findings indicate that there is potential value in teacher professional learning with Web 2.0 technologies.

This study is embarking on an exploration of how a group of higher education professionals use social media and endeavours to investigate if these activities are influential to their academic professional development. Various studies have investigated how the participatory web can empower academic researchers. Some anecdotal evidence exists that participation in online spaces can support professional development learning. Systems have become common place to assure the quality of higher education and support the continuing development of academic staff. The establishment of centres for teaching and learning, which offer qualifications in learning and teaching practices aim to enhance quality of teaching in higher education. Demands from the government and European Commission require the professionalisation and development of academic staff in higher education. A recent survey of academics working in Irish higher education reported that while formal approaches to accreditation of teaching and learning activities are valued, openings for informal peer exchange and more non-formal approaches are also called for. In light of this I wish to explore the participation of a specific group of Irish higher education professionals with social media tools, in particular Twitter, and investigate if this participation is influencing their professional development as academics. Participants of this research are consenting graduates of an academic development programme from an Irish higher education institution. This research takes a case study approach as it presents the activities of this group of participants. In the research I will seek to answer (1) what the activities of these higher education professionals are on Twitter; (2) if the activities might support the professional learning of these higher education professionals?; (3) What barriers and enablers exist in using social media for professional purposes?

Students also felt comfortable using the internet for their studies. The conclusion was that e-learning is a system that gives students flexibility in their learning and encourages independent work, while also making students feel at ease when browsing online.

As the global community grapples with swift urbanization, population expansion, and economic progress, the effects on natural ecosystems are becoming more evident. A crucial element of this impact is the alteration of vegetation cover, which plays a significant role in maintaining the ecological equilibrium of our planet.Land serves as the foundation for all human activities and provides the necessary materials for these activities. As the most crucial natural resource, its utilization by humans results in different 'Land uses,' which are determined by both human activities and the physical characteristics of the land. The utilization of land is impacted by human needs and environmental factors. In countries like India, rapid population growth and the emphasis on extensive resource exploitation can lead to significant land degradation, adversely affecting the region's land cover. Therefore, human intervention has significantly influenced land use patterns over many centuries, evolving its structure over time and space. In the present era, these changes have accelerated due to factors such as agriculture and urbanization. Information regarding land use and cover is essential for various planning and management tasks related to the Earth's surface, providing crucial environmental data for scientific, resource management, policy purposes, and diverse human activities. Accurate understanding of land use and cover is imperative for the development planning of any area.
