The Flu Virus H1N1 or the swine flu has become a rising epidemic and is effecting the United States as a whole. It is also effecting the school system as well and Is becoming to be a rising issue.
H1N1 is a new influenza virus that was first detected in the United states in April of 2009. It started to become more and more prevalent throughout the states and was signaled an epidemic on June 11 th . This virus has become to be talked about just as much as prior virus’s like small pox and is now known mainly as the Swine Flu.
H1N1 is a very serious virus and can cause many symptoms very uncomfortable to the human body. It takes away from everyday activities which limits how productive people can be. Along with the minor discomfort areas, the swine flu can ultimately lead to death if not taken care of in a proper fashion.
Many people are uneducated about H1N1 and do not know how to go about handling it .H1N1 or the Swine Flu, is an influenza sickness found in North America. It is spread easily between humans and is resistant to some forms of antiviral medications. Without immediate attention swine flu can ultimately end in death.
Although H1N1 is a very powerful and contagious sickness there are many different things a person can do to prevent from getting it. These prevention steps are not 100% effective, but they do go a long way in helping your body be prepared for sickness and able to fight it off. Sleep is one of the most important because without it your body becomes worn down and not able to protect itself from sickness. Vitamins, washing hands etc keep the body clean and give your body a better chance of keeping H1N1 away.
Here are a few statistics of what the swine flu has done so far in relation to hospitalization and also deaths.
Schools and classrooms are profoundly affected by the sine flu and it has become quite a scare in many cases. Students who get the sickness may fall far behind and also miss out on many important school events. The district also takes a hit with teachers being out of the classroom and not being able to educate their students.
Education as I stated in earlier slides gets a big hit with the new spread of H1N1, not only are students getting sick their education takes a slide through missing so much class. H1N1 also creates an unneeded distraction and sometimes puts a false fear into the minds of students. For example if a few kids get sick in school they may go home and tell their parents everyone is becoming sick and swine flu is taking over the school. Not only does this distract and put fear in the student it puts fear and uncertainty about sending their kids to school.
Creating awareness about H1N1 is a huge first step in getting people from being a victim of the virus. Schools start to give out brochures regarding the virus and make it a point to post up prevention tips for students to follow. With the rising fear of this epidemic schools can either fall victim to it or try and beat it. Websites, articles, and health teams can help to make this virus one that can be less detrimental to society and schools.
In closing the virus H1N1 can be a scary thing in today's society. It effects many aspects of our everyday lives including our schooling. With awareness of the disease and knowledge on how to take care of our bodies the virus will become an easier thing to not fall victim to. Schools will have to continue to take the steps in making students and teachers more comfortable in order for H1N1 to become less of a bad influence on schools.
