A large wildfire in Crowsnest, Alberta grew out of control in August, with flames reaching 50 meters high over a 6 km stretch, resembling an atomic explosion. Residents were asked to leave their homes as the flames destroyed 20,000 hectares of forest. While the tourism industry was negatively impacted, one sawmill benefited from the fire by having access to burned wood.
