A large wildfire in Alberta, Canada in August 2003 burned over 20,000 hectares of forest, negatively impacting the timber industry, local businesses, and tourism. However, it created new ecological diversity and benefited one local sawmill. The fire grew rapidly, reaching 50 meters high and releasing as much energy as an atomic bomb every 30 minutes. One resident was forced to evacuate as the flames approached their home.
