The Gandhi Worldwide Education Institute is building the Gandhi Center for Learning in Kolhapur, India to provide housing, meals, and vocational training to up to 200 impoverished children. The center will include residential buildings, classrooms, laboratories, workshops, and farming areas built using local materials and techniques. Phase 1 of construction, targeting $150,000 USD in donations, will provide shelter and education opportunities for children living in extreme poverty in the region.

1. The Gandhi Worldwide Education Institute (GWEI) has a vision: provide the imperiled children of
India with a safe place where they will be housed and fed while they receive training to prepare
them for a life outside the prison of poverty. GWEI is a 501(c)(3) tax exempt institution and all
donations are tax deductible.
THE GANDHI CENTER FOR LEARNING: KOLHAPUR
Beginning in Vashi in the Kolhapur District of Maharastra where 60,000 children live in extreme poverty, GWEI raised funds and with the support of
the Mahatma Gandhi Foundation purchased five acres of land with the intention of building the first Gandhi Center for Learning.
With the significant assistance of a local architecture firm, Amarja
Nimbalkar & Associates, the Gandhi Worldwide Education Institute has
initiated a phased development of the Gandhi Center for Learning –
Kolhapur Site in order to care for up to 200 children.

Natural separation of administrative, community public spaces, and
semi-private / private areas for the children.
The building forms and designated locations will create a sense of
security and shelter.
Building materials are quarried and harvested from the site itself.
Our design carves the buildings to blend with nature to create
salubrious ambiences.
The site is by in large independent of electricity and fossil fuels.
