Smile Scapes - Spring Issue - NGO working in IndiaSmile Foundation
Smile Foundation, a non profit working for the underprivileged section of the society shares its work update through Smile Scapes.
With the Nobel Peace Prize 2014 vindicating the cause of child welfare by recognizing the two crusaders of child rights and education - Mr. Kailash Satyarthi and Ms. Malala Yousafzai, we at Smile Foundation, have been motivated further towards our mission of bringing positive change in the lives of children and families. Our heartiest congratulations to both the Nobel laureates!
The Cover Story highlights our own efforts towards making education possible for the marginalized and underserved children in the country. Mission education, Smile Foundation’s flagship programme, has provided quality to 200,000 children so far. Some of these children are now pursuing their higher education at reputed universities across India, while some have already built a secure life for themselves, and have joined our mission in spreading the light of education further.
The country was shaken by a massive national emergency during the period - the Jammu & Kashmir floods, bringing life to a standstill in the state, as thousands suffered. Our Disaster Response team was immediately on the ground, aiding in the rescue operations and following up with distribution of relief material and health camps for the affected victims.
It was and exciting time with some great associations, programmatic innovations, stories of change from the ground and path-breaking events coming together and keeping us inspired. We heartily thank all Smilians - our team, beneficiaries, supporters, well wishers, for the encouragement.
As always, looking forward to your feedback, suggestions, advice and support/donate!

Kalpataru Diwas : The day of Sri RamaKrishna Paramhansa's Self-RevelationVivekananda Kendra
"'I shall make the whole thing public before I go,' the Master has said some time before. On January 1, 1886, he felt better and came down to the garden for a little stroll. It was about three o'clock in the afternoon. Some thirty lay disciples were in the hall or sitting about under the trees. Sri Ramakrishna said to Girish (Ghosh), 'Well Girish, what have you seen in me, that you proclaim me before everybody as an Incarnation of God?' Girish was not the man to be taken by surprise. He knelt before the Master and said with folded hands, 'What can an insignificant person like myself say about the One whose glory even sages like Vyasa and Valmiki could not adequately measure?' The Master was profoundly moved. He said: 'What more shall I say? I bless you all. Be illumined!' He fell into a spiritual mood. Hearing these words the devotees, one and all, became overwhelmed with emotion. They rushed to him and fell at his feet. He touched them all, and each received an appropriate benediction. Each of them, at the touch of the Master, experienced ineffable bliss. Some laughed, some wept, some sat down to meditate, some began to pray. Some saw light, some had visions of their Chosen Ideals, and some felt within their bodies the rush of spiritual power."
From the Introduction to THE GOSPEL OF SRI RAMAKRISHNA,
by Swami Nikhilananda
==========================
"Those words words of profound blessing, untouched by the slightest tinge of selfishness, directly entered the devotees' hearts where they raised high billows of bliss. They forgot time and space, forgot the disease of the Master and forgot their previous determination not to touch him till he recovered, and had the immediate feeling that sympathizing with their misery, and heart overflowing with compassion, had come down to them from heaven and called them affectionately to Him for protection, like a mother sheltering her children against all ills."
From SRI RAMAKRISHNA, THE GREAT MASTER
by Swami Saradananda

Russian anarchist and anti-war movement in the third year of full-scale warAntti Rautiainen
Anarchist group ANA Regensburg hosted my online-presentation on 16th of May 2024, in which I discussed tactics of anti-war activism in Russia, and reasons why the anti-war movement has not been able to make an impact to change the course of events yet. Cases of anarchists repressed for anti-war activities are presented, as well as strategies of support for political prisoners, and modest successes in supporting their struggles.

Valpura
3. We are grateful to you all for
enabling us to distribute 500 kits to
families of Valpura village, Kankrej
tehsil, Banaskantha district - the flood
affected people - as a 1st phase of this
SEWAYAGNA.
It was all possible as you all -
the well-wishers, karyakartas
throughout India and abroad -
showered the timely support for
the victims of heavy rains and
floods in North Gujarat.
Gujarat Flood Relief SewaYagna – 2017
4. The Prant team of Gujarat after judging the situation in North
Gujarat after the devastating effect of heavy rains and floods,
decided to support the families by providing them with daily
requirements like groceries and utensils, in the form of a kit.
An appeal was sent to all the karyakartas through different means
to collect donation for preparation of the kits. Karyakartas were
overwhelmed to see the response from the vibrant and sensitive
society as wherever they approached, people started giving funds
for this SEWA-YAGNA generously and in full faith.
Gujarat Flood Relief SewaYagna – 2017
6. 05 August, 2017 A team was formed karyakartas,
who had come to Rajkot from different Nagar and
Karya Sthans of Gujarat, for their contribution in
this holy work. The grocery items and utensils were
collected in the karyalaya.
06 August, 2017 since very early morning, the
karyakartas began to pack the kits in a very
systematic manner, completely filled kits were
packed and labeled. Due to the systematic and
efficient team work of the karyakartas, the
preparation of 500 kits, each with 24 pieces of
utensils, 14 types of groceries got completed in 4
hours.
Gujarat Flood Relief SewaYagna – 2017
11. In the evening, a meeting was held, in which Dr. Kamleshbhai Upadhyay
(Sah Prant Sanchalak) guided the karyakartas by briefing the real situation of the
villages, precautions to be taken while working there and elaborated the attitude
through which one has to do this SEWA-YAGNA. At 10:30 pm, the Karyakartas tied
“raksha” to all the other bandhus, who had come from different places, leaving
their own families on the festival day for the sake of larger entity i.e. society. The
team of 40 karyakartas loaded the kits in two trucks. At 11:30 pm, they started the
holy journey to Valpura village, their destination.

Gujarat Flood Relief SewaYagna – 2017
14. 07 August, 2017, Rakshabandhan Diwas : The
village Valpura of Kankrej, Banaskantha district
has suffered severely with death of 3 people, loss
of more than 180 animals have been swept away
in the floods and only 2 days ago, the road
connection has been re-established with the
prime cities of Gujarat.
We took 8 hours (which usually takes 4:30 hrs) to
reach Valpura through the severely damaged
roads. Here teams of 5 members each was
formed and a team was placed near the
gathering place of villagers for distribution of
kits, while other 4 teams went for GRAM-
SAMPARK…
Gujarat Flood Relief SewaYagna – 2017
16. GRAM-SAMPARK : …wherein karayakartas went
to each house and tied “raksha” to everyone in
family, giving sweets and a token to each family.
The members of family were invited to come at
the village Square and collect their kit by
returning the token.
Karayakratas deeply felt the woes of the people
but were satisfied that on this unique celebration
of ‘RAKSHABANDHAN’, they at least could do
some help to them. The villagers also were happy
for receiving some succor for their day to day
living.
Gujarat Flood Relief SewaYagna – 2017
