Teachers in the Oyster River Teachers’ Guild are provided several benefits in their contract regarding medical leave and health insurance. The contract allows teachers 15 days of paid sick leave annually that can accrue up to 160 days total. It also allows up to 15 days annually of sick leave to care for an ill family member. Family Medical Leave runs concurrently with any paid sick or family sick leave. The contract also provides for unpaid medical leave after sick leave is exhausted and continues the district's share of health insurance premiums for 3 months during unpaid leave.
3. Sick Leave
• According to the contract:
o Each professional will be entitled to fifteen (15) days of sick
leave each year for personal illness. Unused sick leave days may
accrue from year to year up to a maximum accumulation of one
hundred sixty (160).
• During this time the district will continue to pay its share
of the professional’s health insurance premiums.
• Family Medical Leave will run concurrently with sick
leave
4. Health Insurance
The Guild contract states:
A professional disabled from performing his/her duties shall be granted an
un-paid medical leave of absence following the exhaustion of all sick leave
available to the professional. Such leave shall be subject to the following
conditions
The District will continue to pay its share of the professional’s
health insurance premiums for a period of three (3) months
following the commencement of the unpaid medical leave.
5. A Sick Family Member
• According to our contract:
Each professional will be entitled Up to fifteen (15) days of sick leave may
be taken annually for illness of a professional’s child, spouse, parent or any
member of their household.
• Medical Family Leave will run concurrently with this leave.
• If a professional needs to take additional leave to care for his/her
family member, the leave will be unpaid.
• Family medical leave will continued to be used during this period
• While on Family Medical Leave, the district will continue to pay its
share of the professional’s health insurance premiums
