Academic research about Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) resulted in exposing faulty scientific publication by Centers for Disease Control (CDC) which caused significant under-reporting and deprivation of care and education of hundreds of thousands of children.
Given the very limited number and quality of research, the subject work by CDC continues to be cited by lazy researchers, resulting in a huge percentage of society being deprived of appropriate education and economic opportunity.
Dr Peter Watson discusses findings from the Youth2000 national health surveys in 2001 & 2007 on suicidal behaviours and protective factors among adolescents. This data is based on two nationally representative samples of nearly 20,000 young people in New Zealand. Successful injury prevention efforts depend on high quality data to better understand the circumstances of the injury/fatality events. Child Fatality Review in Georgia is a great source for these data, and the local Child Fatality Review committees are key in implementing prevention efforts. This workshop will offer data from reviewed child deaths, reported trends over time, and present opportunities for targeted prevention efforts.
In honor of National Public Health Week, APHA, CDC's National Center for Injury Prevention and Control, and the Georgia Public Health Association hosted a dynamic panel discussing the importance of child maltreatment prevention. Prominent leaders in the field discussed current research, effective programs and the return on investment of child maltreatment prevention efforts.
