A group is defined as more than two people who interact in a way that influences each other's behavior. Groups can be either formal, which are task-oriented, or informal, which are social-oriented. People join groups for reasons of security, social engagement, esteem, proximity, and attraction. The four stages of group development are forming, storming, norming, and performing, where the group transitions from dependence to independence and individual needs emerge and are addressed.
