MUSIC & MEDIA –SEMINAR

Saturday 20th October
11.30–12.30 / Ballroom 1

Greening events!
Events have environmental impacts but the people behind them also have an opportunity to respond to the
public's demand for more sustainable alternatives. To make the change, we need to think about how
environmental issues can be taken into consideration in the production process. This panel introduces new tools
and instructions on how event producers can green up their events. The panelists will share their ideas and give
concrete examples on environmental actions they have taken, what problems they may have faced and how they
see the green event industry developing in the future.

11.30- 11.45: Forewords: Niklas Lundell (15min)

11.45-12.30: The script for the panelists (45min):

We will be discussing about environmental management in event production, in practice. Our aim is to present
tools and actions that viewers can understand and implement in their own work/production. Let’s try to give
examples how environmental management has grounded in your production and what actions have been
implemented. We should also honestly speak about what was easily changed, what is challenging and why. We
shall move from environmental aspect (waste, energy use, material use etc) to another. Here is the initial ‘script’
that we will loosely follow:

    1. What are the 2 most important drivers in greening your event?
o Values? Life style? Staff? Image? Training? Management? Available services? Money?
    2. Waste management – What are the weakest and strongest links?
          a. What have made your waste management network strong –resulting high recycling figures?
          b. What has made it difficult?
    3. What about Green energy ? Do you use it? Is it easy to get? What are the obstacles?
          a. Is green energy easily available?
          b. Is it more expensive?
    4. Can you tell me innovative examples of re-use and recycle or even immaterial solutions?
          a. Please give concrete examples :)
    5. Can you tell me about a time when things went really wrong?
          a. Please give concrete examples :)
    6. Can you share highlights or best memories of greening your event ?
          a. What has been most rewarding and why (unless you have told it already)?

12.30-13.00: Lunch break

13.00-15.00: Greening Events! - event clinic in Masuuni
