expectations of a responsible business presents a range of considerations and pressures we need to take into account:
customers, governments and regulators demand increasingly high environmental standards, in particular greenhouse gas
emissions regulation of greenhouse gas emissions and other resources is rising, including new carbon schemes, for example
the Carbon Reduction Commitment in the UK, and stricter building codes to encourage sustainable construction and
consideration of whole life costs increasing water and energy prices and carbon taxes are driving up operational costs the
environmental impact of the supply chain is coming under closer scrutiny changing sea levels and climate patterns are
affecting the availability of raw materials for construction, how and where hotels are built, and how guests travel guests are
under increasing pressure to reduce air travel.
In 2013 we put additional weight behind our commitment to reducing our contribution to climate change by setting a target
to reduce our carbon footprint per occupied room by 12% from 2013 to 2017. This marks a shift from tracking
energy to tracking carbon by focusing on the quality of use of IHG Green Engage in our hotels.”
