• Green energy is the energy produced 
by natural sources i.e. sunlight, wind, 
rain, tides, plants, algae and 
geothermal heat which put very small 
impact on the environment than fossil 
fuels i.e. oil, gas, coal 
• About 8% of global final energy 
consumption comes from renewable 
resources 
• 43% of all renewable energy from 
traditional biomass, mainly used for 
heating, and 
• 50% from hydroelectricity 
• New renewables (small hydro, modern 
biomass, wind, solar, geothermal, and 
biofuels) accounted for another 6% 
and are growing very rapidly 
• The share of renewables in electricity 
generation is around 19%, with 16% of 
electricity coming from hydroelectricity 
and 3% from new renewables

Green Nanotechnology 
• Green Nanotechnology refers to the use 
of nanotechnology to enhance the 
environmental sustainability of processes 
currently producing negative externalities 
• It also refers to the use of the products of 
nanotechnology to enhance sustainability 
• It includes making green Nano-products and 
using Nano-products in support of 
sustainability 
Dematerialization: 
• One of the chief ways 
nanotechnology might 
decrease pollution is 
through dematerialization - the 
reduction of materials required 
for manufacturing 
• Products that can self-assemble 
out of small components use 
much less material than ones 
we build from the top-down, 
which generate waste and often 
require solvents and chemical 
processes 
• Meanwhile, researchers are also 
developing ingenious ways to 
monitor pollution, such as Nano

Conclusions 
• When used correctly agro-environment-friendly technology has promoted 
sustainable growth and reduced widening rural-urban income disparities 
• The application of green technology is the answer for sustainable 
development but poor countries have not been able to use applicable 
technology largely because of their inability to afford to the available 
alternatives 
• Green technologies assure potency for sustainable growth but significant 
effort will be required to substitute conventional practices 
• Alternative energy can be promoted to help low income, marginal and 
disadvantaged and contribute to rehabilitation of the households displaced 
by conflict by providing them electricity and cooking fuel 
• Alternative energy is environment friendly energy source and the possibilities 
of reducing green house gas emission levels with the promotion of alternative 
energy, and the savings in the carbon emission levels; thereof has created 
possibilities of carbon trading in the global market

Agriculture consumes about 35 per cent of the total power generated through electrically operated pump sets. It is expected that about 30 per cent of savings is possible through appropriate technology 1 Importance of Green Technology: • Helpful in finding new renewable methods of energy production • Provides effective measures to reduce energy & fuel consumption in our daily works & needs • Provides measures to reduce green house gas emission • It’s long lasting continuous application will surely provide us the same environment that our ancestors enjoyed Branches:

Companies-proactive about being Green 2 Nokia • Recognized as the world’s most sustainable technology company • Green initiatives at this Finland-based company include an electronics take-back and recycling program, a focus on human rights and multi-year energy use reduction goals Intel • One of Intel’s biggest eco-initiatives is in the green energy arena • According to Forbes, the company uses 1.43 billion kWh of energy annually but 51% comes from renewable sources like solar, wind, geothermal and biomass Cisco • The company has made Fortune’s list of the 100 Best Companies to Work For since the list originated in 1998 • One reason it made 2011’s list is that it has “one of the highest percentages of telecommuters.” Telecommuting saves money in energy costs and reduces tailpipe emissions by eliminating commutes Dell • Aggressive goal of reducing greenhouse gas emissions at the rate by 40% by 2015 • Also focusing on reducing the environmental impact of its product line with a 25% energy use reduction in both its laptop and desktop models

Green Chemistry • Also called sustainable chemistry, is a philosophy of chemical research and engineering that encourages the design of products and processes that minimize the use and generation of hazardous substances • Environmental chemistry is the 3 chemistry of the natural environment, and of pollutant chemicals in nature, green chemistry seeks to reduce and prevent pollution at its source Eg. • Herbs used in Cosmetic Products • Biodegradable/Compostable Source: plastic.

Green Energy • Green energy is the energy produced by natural sources i.e. sunlight, wind, rain, tides, plants, algae and geothermal heat which put very small impact on the environment than fossil fuels i.e. oil, gas, coal • About 8% of global final energy consumption comes from renewable resources • 43% of all renewable energy from traditional biomass, mainly used for heating, and • 50% from hydroelectricity • New renewables (small hydro, modern biomass, wind, solar, geothermal, and biofuels) accounted for another 6% and are growing very rapidly • The share of renewables in electricity generation is around 19%, with 16% of electricity coming from hydroelectricity and 3% from new renewables 4 • It encompasses the creation of new ways of generating energy as well as energy efficiency, and the means by which alternative fuels can be developed Source: learn.fi.edu

Green Nanotechnology • Green Nanotechnology refers to the use of nanotechnology to enhance the environmental sustainability of processes currently producing negative externalities • It also refers to the use of the products of nanotechnology to enhance sustainability • It includes making green Nano-products and using Nano-products in support of sustainability Dematerialization: • One of the chief ways nanotechnology might decrease pollution is through dematerialization - the reduction of materials required for manufacturing • Products that can self-assemble out of small components use much less material than ones we build from the top-down, which generate waste and often require solvents and chemical processes • Meanwhile, researchers are also developing ingenious ways to monitor pollution, such as Nano sensors that can biochemically detect contamination and pathogens, in real time and over large areas 7 • Light-emitting diodes(LED) Energy Nano Technology Medicine & Drugs Nano-Biology Technology Optical Engineering Nano Fabrics Cosmetics Bio Engineering

Conclusions • When used correctly agro-environment-friendly technology has promoted sustainable growth and reduced widening rural-urban income disparities • The application of green technology is the answer for sustainable development but poor countries have not been able to use applicable technology largely because of their inability to afford to the available alternatives • Green technologies assure potency for sustainable growth but significant effort will be required to substitute conventional practices • Alternative energy can be promoted to help low income, marginal and disadvantaged and contribute to rehabilitation of the households displaced by conflict by providing them electricity and cooking fuel • Alternative energy is environment friendly energy source and the possibilities of reducing green house gas emission levels with the promotion of alternative energy, and the savings in the carbon emission levels; thereof has created possibilities of carbon trading in the global market 11
