Chroma keying is a technique used in video production and post-production to remove a background from the subject of a photo or video. A color, usually green or blue, is made transparent, revealing another image behind. This allows two separate images or video streams to be layered together seamlessly. The technique is commonly used in news, movies, and video games to place subjects in virtual environments without having to physically be there. Proper lighting of both the screen and subject is important to achieve a clean composite.
