What is a Green Channel?
Green channel is a special way of clearing certain consignments with no
risk/low-risk criteria.
Green Channel clearance of goods is done without routine physical examination
of the goods.

How long does clearance on the Green Channel take?
Consignments on the Green Channel are cleared from Customs within 30
minutes to 1 hour upon presentation of complete and accurate documents by
the Customs clearing agent

Qualification for Green Channel clearance
1. Imports of brand new motor vehicle spare parts
2. Exports of Tea, Coffee. Spices and Herbs

Criteria for exporting identified products via Green
Channel
• Goods must originate from Kenya.
• Goods must be declared as exports through Kilindini,
• Goods must be lodged under exports regime E1/EX1.
• The goods must be transported in a sealed truck.

• The goods should be classified under tariff (CET,2017) heading 09
(Chapter 9: Tea, Coffee, and spices).
• The goods shall be subjected to scanning (NII) on entry into the port.
• The exporters shall be subject to Post Clearance Audit (PCA).

Imported Products cleared in the Green Channel
So far, only imported brand new motor vehicle spare parts are
cleared through the Green Channel

Criteria for importing identified products via Green
Channel
• Good must be declared as imports through seaport of Kilindini or
ICDN.
• Goods should be classified under tariff (CET, 2017)
• The goods must be in a 20 foot container.

• The goods shall be subjected to scanning
• The goods will be allowed to pass through the green channel and will
undergo a Post Clearance Audit once they reach the factory/owner’s
premises.

Difference between Green Channel & Authorised Economic
Operator (AEO)
• Green channel is tariff based while AEO is trader based
• AEO is a WCO programme where a Customs administration enters a strategic
partnership with operators who meet certain supply chain security standards
and best practices including customs standards and regulations.
• In return customs offer the operators tangible trade facilitation benefits such
as faster clearance times.
• In both programmes, there is random post clearance audits
