Ancient Greek culture flourished from around 650 BC to 145 BC and is typically divided into three periods: the Archaic period, Classical period, and Hellenistic period. During this time, the Greeks made many advances in art, philosophy, drama, and democracy. In art, Greek sculptures evolved from the rigid and symmetrical kouros figures of the Archaic period to the more natural and dynamic styles of the Classical period exemplified by works like the Kritios Boy. The Hellenistic period saw even more dramatic and emotional sculptures created, such as the Laocoön.
