The Hellenic word for Easter is “Λαμπρή (Labri)” At the Holly Week the Orthodox Christians use to fast and go to the church regularly
On Monday all Greek ladies use to bake the traditional Easter cookies
And on Thursday to paint the Easter eggs, traditionally red or they use brighter colors
At night, everybody goes to the church in order to attend the Crucifixion service, where the Twelve Gospels are read. When the service is over, the women and the children stay at church and decorate the Epitaph with flowers.
In the morning of the Good Friday the Burial of the Jesus Christ is enacted
In the evening of the same day, there is the procession of the Epitaph, beautifully decorated with flowers

In the morning of Holy Saturday the householders cook the “Mαγειρίτσα” (a Greek traditional Easter soup), that will be eaten by the family at the night, after Christ’s resurrection.
A few minutes before midnight the Christians go to church, holding white or colored wax candles.
They light the wax candles with the “Holy Light” that is given by the priest. When he starts chanting the “Χριστός Ανέστη” (Christos Anesti = Christ has been resurrected) all people wish to each other and give the “φιλί της Αγάπης” (fili tis Agapis = the kiss of Love).
After the service most of the people return home, where they sit at the festive table in order to eat the “Mαγειρίτσα” and “tsoureki” ( a special Easter sweet bread, decorated with red egg) and to crack their red-painted eggs.

In the morning of Easter Sunday the members of the family cook a lamb on the spit and the celebration lasts till late at night!
