2. what’s so great?
great it is a mobile application that allows users to
“great” places and items based on a rating of 1 to 5.
1 being the lowest rating, 5 being the highest.
For example users can rate a restaurant or a specific
dish in that restaurant (e.g. burger). Likewise users
can rate a retail venue or a specific item within that
retail venue (e.g. pair of shoes).
Great differentiates itself from other rating
applications and websites:
•Easy to use interface
•Application built on a mobile experience as
opposed to desktop
•Compliments other existing social media sites such
as Facebook, twitter and instagram.
•The great it coefficient, based on objectivity,
follower count and number of greats, gives active
users a “louder voice” in deciding the scores of any
given item
3. great it
Greating items:
Users can either sign up through their facebook
or twitter accounts.
Once signed up, greating items is as easy as
1)Input item to great
2)Give a score from 1 to 5
3)Add tags (Optional)
4)Add image (optional)
Users can add up to 3 tags to any
greated item by using the hash tag. i.e.
#Beirut #marina #restaurants
Hash tags are used to describe a greated item which
facilitates searches. Hash tagged items are not
rated. If a user for example wanted to rate the
venue Zaitunay Bay, they would input zaitunaybay
as the first word then add 3 additional words –
perhaps #Beirut #marina #restaurants
Any inputted item after the first word
automatically is given a hash tag.
4. search
Search
-Users can search items by simply inputting key
words. Any items that have been either rated or
hash-tagged will appear in the search results.
-All greats are geographically tagged to ensure
search results are the best fit. For example if a
user searches for “mybar” when in Beirut, mybar
Beirut will appear further up on the results page
than mybar Barcelona.
-Similarly if a user would like to search for a
particular category, such as bars, than all greats
that have been hash tagged with that descriptor
will appear in the results page with the greats
closest in distance appearing first.
If a user wants to search for something more
specific, such as “Restaurant, Beirut, Italian”, then
results will appear that have matches of the
these three words.
Users can also search for other users to follow
5. monetization – phase 2
The primary post launch objective of great is to grow the active user
community. However, to ensure long term growth, it is essential that great
(as a phase two of launching), is monetized without hindering the user
experience or cluttering information while maintaining objectivity.
Sponsored results
Outlets can sponsor results whereby they pay to have their outlet appear
when certain chosen keywords are searched. An alternative is to also have
paid “search optimization” for outlets where by their outlet will appear on
the first or second row if a tagged word is activated
Customization / Own the tag
Owners of outlets or businesses will be able to claim and customize their
page (upon ownership confirmation of outlet) for a minimal annual fee.
Owners will be able to add additional information to their page such as
menu, average price, opening hours and other pictures of their outlet. A
standard template will be designed to make uploading any information easy
for all owners and comprehensible to all users.
Users will potentially be able to follow certain pages of interests and choose
to receive push messages informing them of any updates. For example, a
clothing store can inform their followers of a sale or an arrival of a new
collection.
To ensure credibility, scores and greated times along with user uploaded
pictures will not be editable by the owner of the page.
6. profile
Profile:
Your profile is a log of your past history
of greated items along with a short Bio of
yourself. Other users have the option of
following you.
Settings:
Settings and user options are straight
forward.
Users will be able to decide if they would
like to post their greats to either
facebook or twitter or neither.
7. linked accounts
Linked accounts
Each user has the option of linking great
to other social media sites such as twitter
and facebook.
Linking accounts will increase the
functionality of app while also increasing
the reach and potential user base.
By using hash tags, all greats become
easily searchable within twitter and even
Google
Clicking on a link, will direct the user to
the great website to download the app
8. the coefficient
The great coefficient:
Results are computed according to the great coefficient. Unlike other rating systems (IMDB, Youtube) that use
average scores, greated scores are a weighted average dependent on each inputted users coefficient.
The greated coefficient is dependent on 3 factors:
- Number of followers (percentile rank) – 20% weighted
- Number of times greated (percentile rank) – 50% weighted
- Objectivity of greats (deviation from 2.5 (i.e. median rating)) – 30% weighted (note: how this is calculated
will require further discussion)
(0.2 x followers) + (0.5 x # of greats) + (0.3 x objectivity)
=

John Smith’s profile: Joe Blogs profile:
followers: 546 followers - 63 percentile followers: 2546 followers - 89 percentile
greated 1845 times - 56 percentile greated 145 times - 26 percentile
objectivity – 90 % objectivity – 92 %
gu = 0.67 gu = 0.58
(0.20 x 63) + (0.50 x 56) + (0.30 x 90) (0.20 x 89) + (0.50 x 26) + (0.30 x 92)

10. language
We’re not reinventing the wheel…..
By using similar language to twitter and instagram, we not only make the interface an
instantly recognizable and user friendly experience but also make cross integration between
apps effective and easy.
When users link their great account to twitter, any item that has been greated will be
searchable on twitter via hashtags.

11. what’s out there already?
People have rated, graded and given scores for as long as anyone can remember. These
grading systems inevitably made their way onto the net in the form of websites and then
evolved to mobile apps.
From IMDB, to Yelp, trip advisor, urban spoon and hundreds of other apps, there are already
many other rating and grading apps that already exist.
The key success factor is to differentiate great from what’s out there already. To give added
value in an already existing playing field. To put in perspective, when facebook first launched,
there were already tens of social media sites. (hi5, myspcae, six degrees, classmates,
freindster…)
12. that’s what makes it great
- great is developed to be mobile and not a hybrid of a website and a mobile app
- Language allows easy integration with twitter making it easy to great and search
greats
- No boundaries: great doesn’t confine the user to predefined inputted items.
Users can great everything from the burger they ate, to the diner they ate it at, to the
movie they watched, to the celebrity actor who starred in the movie
- Simple: No unnecessary frills. Doing too much too quickly confuses users
- Phased approach: develop basic functionality and then add modifications over
time as the app gains popularity (e.g. sponsored results, customized venue / product
pages)
- Maintain focus – focus first on local market (Lebanon), then Regional (Middle
East) then Global (World)
no boundaries
