7. 1.Digital is here to stay – your customers demand service on their
phones, watches, tablets... and that’s just the beginning.
2. Killing drones – yes, you as a company will be liable if someone
“hacks” your drone and kills people! (… or just lose money, have
you heard of TESCO BANK?)
3. Millennials – yes, they move at a different pace than you but
they are coming, not just as your customers but as your
employees too.
4.Disruption – If you don’t digitise, someone else will…
8. “40% of businesses in this room, unfortunately, will not
exist in a meaningful way in 10 years. 70% of companies
will attempt to go digital but only 30% of those will
succeed.”
John Chambers, Chairman of Cisco Systems (2014)
9. 1. Data revolution – if your data is incorrect, old, disconnected, unsecure,
not helping your business… your business will be dead in 10 years.
2. Other peoples problem – if you think you can call Accenture and they
will do it for you while you wait…your transformation bill will exceed its
benefits.
3. Cheap transformation – if you hire a fancy & “cool” digital agency to
“save” money on transformation… you will be hacked (sooner or later).
4. Know Your Enemy – “If you know the enemy (competitors / disruptors)
and know yourself, you need not fear the result ... If you know neither
the enemy nor yourself, you will succumb in every battle.” (Sun Tzu,
512 BC)
10. 1. Data is a strategic asset – digital transformation must start with a clear
goal of what data you need and what you are going to do with it.
2. Don’t experiment – It’s not an “EGO” competition. A Director title alone
doesn't make one fit to lead a transformation (Excel mastery is not a
qualification!)
3. Team up! – if you hire Deloitte, KPMG, PwC, EY…etc. don’t let them
work alone. They need your guidance… or you’ll end up with their vison
not yours!
4. Fire & Hire – You are fighting for survival! You need people ON YOUR
SIDE with the right skills. If existing people aren’t a fit for your purpose,
they have to go!
11. 1. Vendors – please listen to experts. Technology must be ENTERPRISE
READY! If it is not don’t buy it just because it is used by 8 men + dog
start-up in Shoreditch!
2. System Integrators – yes you need them but if you have NO ONE ON
YOUR SIDE able to write a RFI, RFP, SoW, read their invoices, you will
overpay big time.
3. CEO is your Friend – If the CEO is not supporting you, no matter how
hard you work and how many hundreds of millions you pay to vendors
and SIs, you will fail.
4. Agencies – you don’t need to hire all people permanently. Use
contractors, they will help you balance power and knowledge between
12. 1. CEO – you need his / her support.
2. CFO – if you have no business case you will not get a budget!
3. CIO – if he says no to some technology, it means no.
4. Vendors – choose them wisely. Cheap doesn’t mean best… or secure
and compliant!
5. System integrators – you need them but you must manage them.
6. People – if someone is not a good fit, that’s final. They have to go.
7. Security – if you forget about it everything, else is just a waste of time
and money!
