9. GRAMMAR may be roughly defined as
the way a language manipulates and
combines words in order to form longer
units of meaning.
For some teachers, a grammar class consists primarily
of the formal explanation of grammatical rules
with all of the grammatical terminology necessary
of the task.
For still other teachers, the teaching of grammar
means providing students with opportunities
to use English in a variety of realistic situations in order
to learn to communicate effectively.
