This document discusses the concept of convergence in information and communication technologies (ICT). It defines convergence as previously separate technologies like voice, data, and video now sharing resources and interacting through common standards. Examples provided include smartphones that converged laptop, phone, and media playback functions. The document also outlines different types of convergence - technological, service, network, and corporate through mergers. An example lesson plan is presented on using interactive whiteboards and online videos to teach students about lines of latitude and longitude.

Brief presentation to the Osaka Jogakuin University faculty. Defining by contextualizing. Difference between a field and a discipline. Mobility of the learner rather than of devices is key. This presentation is not about specific mobile-assisted language learning (MALL) techniques; it is about characterizing mobile language learning and placing its practice in its cultural, disciplinary, and temporal contexts. This method can be applied to understand and define technical concepts, academic fields or disciplines.
This presentation discusses the social political economy of information and communication technology. The discussion looks at the evolution of mobile technology-mobile communication technology, mobile computing and telecommunication. The discussion is to look at convergence in ICT and how it is impacting on economic growth.

He discussed the concept of quality improvement, emphasizing its applicability to various aspects of life, including personal, project, and program improvements. He defined quality as doing the right thing at the right time in the right way to achieve the best possible results and discussed the concept of the "gap" between what we know and what we do, and how this gap represents the areas we need to improve. He explained the scientific approach to quality improvement, which involves systematic performance analysis, testing and learning, and implementing change ideas. He also highlighted the importance of client focus and a team approach to quality improvement.

2. What is Convergence?
Information communication technologies (ICT)
are continuously
evolving to solve problems meet the demands of
everyday life.
The concept of convergence is used to describe
these evolutionary
changes in ICTs today.
• Convergence can refer to previously separate
technologies such as voices, data and videos
that now share resources and interact with
each other, synergistically creating new
efficiencies. (Kim, Kim, Koh 2014 p. 54)
• Since the 1980s, there have been numerous
innovative convergences of heterogeneous
technologies to create new products and
services, and even new technologies. (Lee,
Olsen and Trimi 2010)
3. Types of Convergence in ICT
Technological convergence occurs when sets of technologies with distinct
functionalities develop so that some of the functions overlap, (Wild 2006 in EDTK 2030
Unit 1 p.4)
Service convergence refers to the use of a single network by a firm to provide several
communications services that previously required separate networks.
Network convergence took place when a common standard existed to facilitate
interconnectivity so that several types of networks can be connected to provide
communications services, allowing a particular communications service to use any
combination of networks.
EDTK2030 Unit 1 p.4
Corporate convergence results from mergers, acquisitions, or collaborations among
firms as new businesses are created to offer multiple services and respond to different
markets.
5. Using Media in the Classroom
• Subject: Social Studies
• Topic: Lines of Latitude and Longitude
• Time: 1 hour
• Age: 9-10years
• Objectives: Students should be able to:
1. differentiate between lines of latitude and longitude.
2. locate countries on a world map using coordinates
of latitude and longitude.
3. appreciate the importance of locating countries on a
world map with the use of coordinates.
• Materials: computer, interactive whiteboard,
speakers, internet and copies of world map
6. Lesson
Introduction
Copies of the world map will be distributed. Students will be paired.
Each pair will be asked to locate Bangladesh on the map.
A few students will be asked to give a description of the location of
Bangladesh.
Development: Students will:
1. view a short animated video on lines of latitude and longitude.
2. engage in a pair share activity based on the video.
3. use their fingers on the white board showing a world map to trace (and
highlight) lines of latitude and longitude based on given coordinates to
locate different countries.
4. Suggest a description of the location of Bangladesh which will provide an
exact location. This should be compared to the first description given.
5. Discuss the importance of coordinates.
Closure: Students will engage in a sing along karaoke version portrayed on the
whiteboard of a sing along on lines of latitude and longitude.
Evaluation: In pairs students will provide each other with coordinates to
determine the location of various countries on their map.
7. • Using media engages students, aids student retention of
knowledge, motivates interest in the subject matter,
and illustrates the relevance of many concepts.
Two examples of media used in the lesson are:
1. The interactive white board: This is an interactive device
which allows students to be actively engaged in the lesson
through doing. It is also a means by which output is
produced in the form of visuals and sound when
partnered with other devices such as speakers and as a
result caters to the multimodial learner.
2. The Computer: This is a device formed from the
convergence of other forms of ICT. It allows for
connectivity to the internet and websites such as Youtube,
which serve as a significant source of videos and songs for
teachers around the world.
