The Benefits Of Negative Visualization By Oliver Burkeman
Throughout generations, people believed that having positive visualizations can make situations
better, however when you are in a situation that gives you a negative outcome you become
devastated. Oliver Burkeman in his essay, The Benefits of Negative Visualization discusses how
negative visualization is more likely to make people happier than positive visualization. Burkeman
supported that negative visualization makes an individualhappier rather than positive visualization;
he supported this claim by describing how spending time and focusing on how well things would
go reduces one s motivation to achieve their goal. Tranquility gives individuals the opportunity to
focus on negative emotions, positive thinkers are less prepared and more acutely distressed,
negative visualization causes less stress, and being prepared for the worst case scenariohelps
establish what to expect. When using negative visualization, it would be beneficial to use it to
prepare oneself for the worst case scenarios and to reduce both fear and anxiety. In regards to
Burkeman s position, I can relate to the information he is presenting and apply it to my personal
life. Therefore, I can strongly agree with his point of view that negative visualization is more likely
to make an individual happier than positive visualization.
(topic sentence) Before I tried out for Track and Field, I imagined myself getting a bad time
running my mile, imagining how half way into the mile I would be puffing for air, my sides
beginning to burn, and I would be struggling to breathe. This was something that was
unnecessary for me to think about considering I would do the mile twice a week for regular
physical education. When it came to throwing both the shot put and the discus I imagined
myself struggling to pick up the eight pound shot put and having it roll out of my hand because
my fingers were not able to stand the weight of it. How I d go pick up the discus and I d be
unable to hold on to it right, even if it was similar to a Frisbee. This then led me to visualize
something even more severe than not being able to throw which was throwing it backwards and
making a total fool of myself. When it came to jumps, I replayed in my head over and over again

A joint subsidiary called Union Hop Growers spent many years developing new hybrids, which

1.2Diversified into Bottles, Lodging, and Mineral Water in Early 20th Century
After Frederick Mead died in August 1915, John Stroyan, who succeeded Sydney Chambers a few
months earlier, became the most important figure in SAB management. Stroyan faced a serious
challenge the following year when hostilities during World War I interrupted the supply of bottles
to South Africa. SAB decided to establish its own bottle making plants in 1917. Actual production,
however, did not begin until 1919, the year the war ended.
Another economic depression beset South Africa after World War I, but steady growth in the
demand for beer reduced many of the detrimental effects of the depression. SAB was financially
strong enough in 1921 to purchase the Grand Hotel in Cape Town, an important addition to the
company s lodging business. SAB gained an interest in the mineral water business in 1925, when it
purchased a substantial interest in the Schweppes Company.
The Great Depression of the early 1930s had little effect on the South African brewing industry;
SAB continued to expand its operations and improve its facilities. The company s biggest
problems were shortages of labor and capital. The Spanish Civil War and rising political tensions in

Symptoms And Treatment Of Ayurveda
In Ayurveda, diseases are grouped by causes: genetic (adibalapravritta), congenital
(janmabalapravritta), constitutional (doshabalapravritta), traumatic (sanghatabalapravritta),
seasonal (kalabalapravritta), infectious and spiritual (daivabalapravritta), as well as natural
(swabhavbalapravritta) (Warrier, 1997, p. 130). They can also be classified depending on their
effect, intensity, cause, what part of the body is affected, and what treatment is best. Examples of
genetic ailments include asthma, tuberculosis, asthma, epilepsy and some mental disorders.
Congenital disorders include deafness and blindness. Seasonal disorders include frostbite. Most
diseases are considered to be caused by spiritual means, especially according to those strictly
rooted in their Indian culture. Ayurvedic treatment depends on the disease, prognosis, and state of
the patient but usually consists of drugs and diet. Plant based medicines are at the center of the
Ayurveda healing process. Various herbs and medicines are commonly used for treatment
including taleespatradi vatakah, which is used to treat kapha related illness (Warrier, 1997, p.
140). Other common medicines and herbs are trivrt, rasna, candana, bala, anu taila, and pasamoola
rishtum to name just a few of the many options available. Common diseases or illnesses that occur
in India include fevers, malaria, headaches, heart problems and many other diseases (Albert et al,

Project Appraisal
CHAPTER 1
INTRODUCTION
PROJECT APPRAISAL
Every organisation has to examine the viability of each project before it provides financial
assistance. It has to ensure that the project will generate sufficient funds on the resources invested
in it. With the opening of new factory outlet, the study of viability of a project has become more
vital for financing a project.
Project appraisal the process of critical evaluation of all the six faces of the project appraisal
namely: 1. Technical analysis
2. Financial analysis
3. Legal analysis
4. Market analysis
5. Management appraisal
6. Ecological appraisal.

2 Legal Analysis:
The collateral properties, guarantees and other legal legalities with respect to the regulations of the
government will be analysed and this creates basis for further processes for the financial assistance.
3 Financial Analysis: Financial appraisal seeks to ascertain whether the proposed project will be
functionally viable in the sense of being able to meet the burden of servicing debt and whether the
proposed project will satisfy the return/expectations of those who provide funds Financial appraisal
involves the following terms. o Capital cost of projects and sources of finance
o Financial projections Cash flow and profitability estimates
o Ratio analysis
o Breakeven point
o Discounted cash flow techniques net present value and internal rate of return.
Capital cost
Estimation of the capital cost of a project provides the basic information to decide its pattern of
financing and profitability. If the cost of the project is not estimated correctly, the preparation of
cash flow and profitability estimates will be futile exercise because the amount of depreciation,
interest and dividend will change with the change in capital cost of the project. An entrepreneur has
to tie up the resources according to the estimates of the cost of the project. If there is an overrun in
the cost of the project, the entrepreneur may find it difficult to arrange for additional resources and it

The Glass Ceiling
The Glass Ceiling Does It Still Exist?
There are many questions that come to mind when looking at the structure of any organizations.
Within the social organization, employees face many challenges such as sexual harassment,
violence, rape, depression, and discrimination. These issues in their respective organizations are a
hindrance to their success and can cause their personal and career development to suffer. But the
key factor that will be focused regarding discrimination is women s struggles advancing in their
careers often called the glass ceiling effect. In this research, the term glass ceiling will be defined,

Surely, people want to know whether men or women are on top of these hierarchies. They also
want to know which ethnic groups hold these positions. Looking at the workforce, women and
minorities are struggling to advance in their careers. They are the ones who are mostly affected by
the glass ceiling. This gives Caucasian men the upper hand in their battles to reach top
management positions. In our organizations, men s experiences are assumed to be the norm, while
women s experiences are looked down upon. Women s experiences are considered beneath those of
men, narrowly categorized, or often times excluded altogether. We see more women positions in the
Administrative or Clerical fields and not so often in the Technical fields.
When compared to men, women are often left behind when it comes to advancement even if they
have the same educational background and work experiences. But the work place is now
changing. Women are shooting to the top of high tech companies, dot.com startups and Internet
favorites, with a speed that promises to permanently change the way we think about women, work
and power (Gerber, 2000). Despite women s advances in the workforce, they still strive to emerge
and grow out of male oppression and move to a higher social position where they belong.
This institutionalized gender discrimination affects both the private and the public sectors where
women are often the victims of this type of crime. Through observation it is concluded that we

Consumer Spending Throughout The Seasons Essay
Consumer Spending Throughout the Seasons.
We are heading towards the season of spending, black Friday is just around the corner, with that
exactly 31 days after we have Christmas. Consumer spending should be at an all time high right,
with month long sales and new deals everyday as coined with the popular shopping destinations.
Now we all agree that there are four seasons throughout the year, we have the spring equinox,
summer solstice, fall equinox, winter solstice. In most firms, they also have something called a
fiscal year and that can be broken down into 4 quarters. Consumers are always spending throughout
the year, those spending habits change with the flow of seasons.

On the bottom of the tier list we have stuff like food, water, warmth and rest. As we go higher on
the list we find more psychological needs ones that can be acquired by spending. (Maslow, 1943).
Now you may be wondering why I bring up psychology in an economics essay and to that I say
marketing which I will explain how in ties in later. Wants would be and can be anything, more
expensive foods could be a want, more clothing could be a want. If we look at figure 1 you can see
consumption from the three basic needs food, clothing and housing. The most interesting thing we
can see from the graph is that nothing stands out as being a dominate quarterly for food and
housing other than the steady rise in spending with yearly progression. Clothing as it turns out has
since 2010 has always had a growth from fourth quarter to first quarter.
Quarters and Seasons Revenues Now Walmart is a good choice in my opinion for following
seasonal consumer spending, that reason being is that they spend a lot of effect to carter to each
season and holiday s, they also spend a lot of time on demographics catering to each as well. To
check this Google finance has a handy little tool that allows us to look at reported revenue for each
quarter. It shows us that since 2006, Walmart has always had a spike in revenue

Critical Writing Assignment The Article, written by Patron, G. (2012) and published in daily
telegraph online edition on 13 March 2012 , critically review the fact more children are being
taught in mixed ability classrooms and how it impacts the brighter students and over all school
performance. The article suggests that brighter pupils can be held back by their weaker
classmates. The recently published research work by the Royal Economic Society showed that
a large number of low achieving pupils in class had negative impact on the bright children s
performance. The data about mixed ability classroom was released by Ofsted, after question by
conservative MP for Kingswood. The data shows that in English state schools, 55 per cent of all
lessons, taught to children in mixed ability classroom. The Ofsted inspectors observed 22,834
lessons in 2010/11. Only 45 per cent of these lessons employed some kind of ability setting. The
number of streaming or setting ability decreased from 47 in 2000/1 to 45 per cent in 2009/10

Oriental Art Essay
Oriental Art Oriental art is very distinct from other parts of the world. In their sculptures they still
used such materials as clay, wood, and bronzes. However their art work promoted such things as
goodness in nature, serenity, graceful balance, spiritual perfection, and a mystical harmony within
themselves. There work avoided confusion, conflict and violent emotions at all costs. New or
unprecedented experiments in their art work was never welcomed, and the expression of nobility
and inner worth where demanded. Ultimately oriental art was said to be a way of being , but to
understand this you must look at the words of the great Chinese philosopher Confucius who said

The Shang people came into history half way through the second millennium B.C., these people
also lived in pounded earth settlements, and made funeral vessels. These people established the li
which was the basic metallic shape used in their bronzes. Not only was the li used, but also other
shapes have been discovered. In recent excavations, thousands of different vessels have been
found, however it is possible to distinguish about forty basic shapes of the vessels. Each vessel
served a different purpose in sacrifice or funeral ceremonies. Some where used for wine and water,
some for storing foods, while others where used for cooking meats. The Shang dynasty have left
some sculptures as original and different as there bronzes. However none of the large statue
survived excavations. The importance of the excavations cannot be overemphasized. Who would
have imagined an ancient culture so rich that they actually created stone sculptures, wheel made
pottery, carved jade, and bronzes, which have never been surpassed.
Too often when people speak of Oriental art they think that both China and Japan developed in the
same way and the same time. This statement however is false, and the Japanese art did not start till
several years after Chinese art did. The first forms of Japanese art can be looked at through the
Jomon people, who where nomadic hunters and fishers. A number of human figurines and fertility
gods have been found, also

Literature Review on Corporate Culture
Management Literature Review
During the 1980s the concept of corporate culture captured the imagination of management
researchers and practitioners alike. In particular, Peters and Waterman s (1982) book entitled In
Search of Excellence: Lessons from America s Best Run Companies proclaimed that the key to
corporate success was a strongly unified corporate culture. Wilson (1996:87)
Corporate culture has always been a part of every business since it was first introduced in the 1980
s. It doesn t matter if it s a small business or a massive company, corporate culture will always
have an involvement. Corporate culture is very hard to define as one particular meaning, due to the
various areas it covers. Glaser (1991:6) stated ...the folk ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Without that sense of teamwork, employees would not be able to achieve their maximum level of
output, as they will feel as though they are on their own; that the work they produce will just end
up as a file on the company system. Westwood Kirkbride (1998:556) ...suggests that a corporate
culture can be constructed, symbolised and engineered so as to transform employee values and
behaviour, thereby enhancing individual, and ultimately, organisational performance. Corporate
culture provides a Greater Good aspect to employees, all working together to achieve the same
goal, as long as the values they work by feel right to them.
An example of positive corporate culture increasing performance is Southwest Airlines. Sadri
Lee (2001:857) provides this statement CEO and co founder Herb Kelleher...encourages
employees to be very informal and have fun at their jobs...Kelleher fosters this type of culture by
engaging in unusual acts, such as arriving at shareholder meetings on a motorcycle wearing jeans
and a t shirt, or holding a 2a.m. barbeque for the company s mechanics who work the night shift
(Donlon, 1999)...Kelleher also strives to value Southwest s employees, acknowledging births,
deaths, marriages, and other events in their lives by a note or card. Employees are encouraged to

Evolution Of The Modern Era Of Skateboarding
Prior to the days of Dogtown, skateboarding was dead. However, as soon as the Dogtown culture
came alive, so did the modern era of skateboarding. As a result of surfing, the California drought
of the 1970s, and the film work and photography of Craig Stecyk, this once dead sport has risen
from the dead for good. It all began in the early 1970s when Dogtown, located in Venice Beach,
California was home to a secret surfingcove. This area was constantly populated by pyromaniacs,
drug addicts, artists, and of course surfers , but most importantly the Zephyr surf team. This team
was known as The mafia of the waves (Peralta, 2002). While surfing on the coast, this team

Each one helped to expand growth for the extreme sport already growing in popularity.
First off, the accident of architecture was inevitable. As years went on, the minds and creativity of
skaters was bound to evolve. The boys from Dogtown did just that. With reference to my second
point, these skaters took advantage of Mother Nature. When the California drought of the 1970s
occurred, they made use of the architecture that was not being used. Seaside pools became more
than just an empty unusable piece of land built underground, but a bowl for skaters to develop their
innovation for the future of the sport (Hayes, 2005).
The availability of television time also had an impact on the rise of skate. While the status of
skateboarding was taking off, so was television and sport. The 1980s marked the introduction of
innumerable network options (Cable s Story, 2015). Not long after in the mid 1990s, the X Games
kicked off and included skateboarding as one of its activities. From that point on the skateboarding
market continued to flourish as more and more television shows came out about skating, along
with the creation of video game such as Tony Hawk s Pro

The Islamic Insurgency Of Afghanistan
Mullah Akhtar Mansour and the Rising Threat of Islamic Insurgency in Afghanistan
War and conflict have raged in Southeast and Central Asia for centuries due to civil unrest and
political instability. The rise of the Taliban and other militant insurgencies have escalated the
dangers and unpredictability of an already unstable government in Afghanistan. The appointment of
the new Talibanleader Mullah Akhtar Mansour could result in a dangerous liaison with ISIS. The
agenda of these jihadist extremists is the take over the Afghan and Pakistan governments in favor of
the more stringent Islamic ways of the Taliban. These groups, professing to do the work of God, are
perpetrating a coarse and distorted interpretation of Islam and the Quran. Insurgents have
committed violent acts including the killing of police, military personnel, assassinations of political
figures, and suicide bombings (Ghufran, 2009, pg 44). Due to the dangerous capabilities of the
Taliban combining with the organizational competence of ISIS, the United States coalition forces
must be cautious about leaving too quickly from Afghanistan, which will also affect Pakistan.
The Birth of the Taliban
The Taliban emerged in 1994 from a group of guerilla type Muslim Mujahidin that had fought in
the Afghan and Soviet war and were dissatisfied and disillusioned with their current leadership.
The Mujahidin s purpose is to perform jihad, meaning to struggle, strive, or persevere in doing God
s will (Wikipedia, 2015).

Compare And Contrast Modernist And Post-Modernism In...
Modernist and Post modernist in Development Modernism is closely associated with the setting in
of modern civilization compared to postmodernism. It is modernism that lay the foundation for
postmodernism (Muller 312). After the World War II, the human race achieved what is referred to
as postmodernism. The two concepts may appear antagonistic in nature, but a closer look at each
reveals how well each complements the other. Art and literature are among the numerous human
aspects that have been influenced in diverse ways by the concepts of modernismand post
modernism. In this paper, the significance of developmental studies in elaborating the two concepts
as the poles of negotiation rather than competing concepts shall be highlighted more so from Miller
s school of thought.
Modernist concept in enhancing sustained engagement
In this case, we realize that modernism always tends to exclude the order and the rationality

Demonetization of Currency Merits and Demerits of it in society and country
First of all what is demonetisation?
Demonetization of currency means banning of the particular currency and replacing it with a new
currency. In the current context it is the banning of the 500 and 1000 denomination currency notes
as a legal tender.
What was the objective behind it?
The Objective behind the Demonetization scheme in India is discussed below:
While the normal public all over India is stressed by standing in long ATM queues blaming the
Indian Government for their troubles, the government has introduced this scheme with some of the
superior motives for the benefit of the nation as a whole. Some of the reasons why the scheme was
introduced include:

It will have added benefits to it as well.
However, if we compare the merits verses demerits, it will be safe to conclude that the former
outweighs the latter.
Even though there is suffering and agony among the masses right at the moment but the forecast is
that its benefits will be seen in the long run.
The government is taking all the necessary steps and actions to meet the currency demand and soon
the trial and tribulations of the people will be over with the smooth flow of the new currency
So we can say that it has both merits and demerits but in future we can say that itbhas positive
effect on country and its people. All in all, the demonetization is a bold step that is working its
way through ups and downs in India right now. It feels like a step taken by a mother (Mother
India) teaching its child (the public) a lesson and instil stronger values in it to ensure its bright
future. Demonetization can hence be termed as a necessary evil as of now and a way of paving its
way towards a more stable and economically stronger road for

Affirmative Action And Its Effects On Affirmative
Throughout America there are many different views on the effects of affirmative action. Many see
it as a negative policy which gives an unnecessary advantage to minorities in America. In a 2009
Pew Poll, 58% of African Americans agree and only 22% whites agree that there should be
preferential treatment to improve the position of blacks and other minorities ( Public Backs
Affirmative Action).
Today affirmative action and other racial injustices tend to be in the spotlight quite often, such as in
Fisher v University of Texas at Austin case which highlighted that many highly qualified white
prospective students are passed over for less qualified minority students to attempt to make the
university more diverse using the affirmative action initiative ( Voices: Affirmative Action ).
Affirmative action or positive discrimination is a policy in which those who have been
discriminated on in the past or who tend to be discriminated on presently are favored, usually in
relation to education or jobs. It was introduced by President John F. Kennedy in 1961 to attempt to
reduce the discrimination still continuing despite the civil rights movements. Later it was further
developed and enforced by President Lyndon B. Johnson. A professor of English at San Jose
University, Shelby Steele, an African American man, spoke of his views of the negative impacts
of affirmative action in his book, The Content of Our Character: A New Vision of Race in
America. In Steele s book he discredits

The day in, day out struggle of scratching an existence out of the hood can instill in one an

inner cities have birthed some of the greatest visionary talent the music industry has ever seen.
Those who struggle to make it out seldom succeed, but the ones with the will to do so possess a
certain spark that drives them to unimaginable heights. Pauleon is one such artist destined for
greatness. Growing up in the projects of downtown New Orleans, the young rapper and lyricist was
exposed to the rhythms of the street at a young age. Even at that early stage, the small statured and
soft spoken kid prodigy was working with one of the most well known underground production

Reflection In The Poetry Of Emily Dickinson sRoom
From another perspective. Sometimes lost, deep in thoughts, tough emotions and feelings.
Sometimes looking, staring but again not watching something. Sometimes imaging big dreams,
big things distracted in soul visions but never finding anything in reality. Surrounded by same
objects, life, people, big roads, big decisions, choices. We, the people we are unique, we are a
mosaic with rare, colorful pieces. The way we live the life, enjoy the world, see the things makes
us who we are. In dark or light, confident or not, walking or halting. Under the sun s beam, warm
and relieved; under the cold moon and shining stars that fill the black, mysterious, endless
sky, thinking in sadness. Often in reality; rarely in our mind. Every time contemplating the miracles
of the nature. Enjoying the infinite universe with just two finite eyes just enough. Every creature
that can see has a power. And all creatures have another one called the art of seeing vision.
Can we do without the windows of soul eyes?
Can we live with feelings and vision?
This question can have thousands of questions full of emotions. A diversity of thoughts for a theme
that raises contradictions. I think no, you think maybe but what does Dickinson think? What does
the blind poet that feels the world from her room thinks? Some critics have used her life to try to
explain her poetry, and others have tried to explain her life by referring to her poems, which they
assume are autobiographical. Emily Dickinson is a passionate poet that expresses herself without
barriers. With a diamond hard language that reflects light to the dark and hope, inspiration till the
last moment.
Emily Dickinson s poetry speaks powerfully to us. It captures her insights and recreates meaningful
events in living; it helps us to understand and even to re live our own experiences through her
intensity and with her emotional and intellectual clarity. In the first stanza Before she got her eye
put out , the speaker liked as well to see / As other creatures, that have eyes / And know no other

became therapeutic for him, and it grew into something he loved. Just like Santiago I also write

Risks of Just in Time Inventory Systems Essay
The Risks of Being Just In Time
The following is a guest article written by Nick Koletic, an economics specialist at UCLA. In
addition to giving a brief background on Just In Time inventory system s benefits, the article s main
focus is the risks that JIT systems face.
Just In Time inventory (JIT) is part of a production system whereby a firm vastly reduces inventory
from its production processes so that utilization of production inputs and delivery of finished
products are accomplished without incurring significant holding costs. While JIT inventory systems
are quite attractive for this reason, they are a double edged sword. And though a JIT system might
even be a necessity given the inventory demands of certain business types, ... Show more content on

Shipping the same quantity of a product to different retail outlets, for example, might not make
much sense if the demand for that good is significantly greater at one location relative to another.
This approach to delivery cost savings also facilitates decreases in aforementioned holding costs by
not overstocking certain locations with a product. The same principle holds for inputs in
production; parts are not delivered and held at production centers where they might lay idle.
Some positive externalities may also result from a firm s decision to implement a JIT system.
Suppliers of such a firm, for example, might then be able handle larger orders but fulfill them
with smaller shipments. That is to say that for any given order size, supplying a customer that
utilizes JIT is typically easier to do because individual shipments tend to be smaller for these
customers and thus tend to be less demanding of the supplier. So it might be possible for suppliers,
merely by the nature of their customers JIT system, to greatly expand their ability to fill larger
orders without having to increase production capacity.
Several factors, however, make JIT systems a risky proposition. A key concern here is the extent
to which firms are dependent upon particular suppliers under such an inventory system. For
example, if a firm were to commission a highly proprietary product to a single supplier (single
suppliers being common in JIT), a JIT

It is through this precious human life and birth that we can free ourselves from ignorance and see
how things really exist. From Sanskrit: TAN = To expand, TRA= tool, instrument. TANTRA can
be seen as a technology or tool for expansion of consciousness and alertness. TANTRA does not
reject our objects of attachment or life conditions, but transforms how we relate to them. This is
what makes this practice so compelling today. For example, our inner attitude towards money
doesn t have anything to do with the money we have. Under TANTRA s view, there is nothing
wrong about having money or enjoying life, or being tall/short, or fat/thin, or being married
/single, or being employed/unemployed.., but whatever the circumstances, the attitude should be
of detachment and equanimity, then a sense of freedom arises. So the world and our conditions
become an ally instead of a hindrance in our spiritual development. In TANTRA there are two
realities; SHIVA and SHAKTI, SHIVA representing the total matter or the absolute and SHAKTI
representing the total energy or creative power. In TANTRA all reality can be divided on what we
can see (visvamaya) and what is beyond (visvottirna). To experience the ultimate reality we need to
dissolve the notion of duality in our consciousness. We need to become one from two.

Women, Ageism, and Poverty in Canada

Women, Ageism and Poverty in Canada
Women have benefitted greatly from the efforts of Feminism. The three waves of feminism have
given women the vote, control over their bodies, freedom of choice, the right to pursue higher
education, empowerment, the ability to identify areas of inequality, the right to attain male
dominated jobs and the right to expect equal pay for work of equal value. Women have fought
hard to obtain the tools to rise above the glass ceiling. For all that feminism has accomplished,
there are still areas that need more consideration. Until recently, feminism had concentrated on
females who were in the reproductive stage of their lives. The aging female was hardly considered.

Women are burdened with many obstacles to achieve equality in the work place. In the corporate

obstacles is ageism,
and the perceptions that older women work less effectively than young women and men. The
CEDAW (Convention

of many forms of
discrimination (Begum, n.d. p. 1). For older women the stereotyped image is frail, doddering,

Social Movements And Its Impact On Society
Everyday in society people make decisions, interact with others, and react to the adversities in
life. Social sciences are the study of all aspects of society past or present, ranging from the
behavior of humans to the digging up of ancient pottery. Through the research of social scientists,
we see how humans have developed culturally, and socially as individuals or members of society.
Research of social phenomena commonly occurs overtime due to the continuous change in society.
A very common and important study among researches are the different social movements that
have occurred and are occurring around the world. Social movements have been prevalent since
the beginning of time. Social movements are the coming together of individuals that seek to carry
out, resist, or undo social change politically and socially. Social movements can be caused by
cultural drifts, social disorganization, and social injustice. These movements are a response to
social change, usually regarding the inequality and unjust treatment of people. Studying these
movements sparks an interest in researchers because these observations make it easy to see how
social movements develop and how society can be more inclusive and equal to all individuals in
society. An example of a social movementis the women s movement of the 1960 s and 1970 s when
the role of women changed drastically from being a housewife to entering the paid workforce.
Throughout history women have been treated unequally and have

Code Switching Of English In Bollywood
Research Question 3 How English is used in Bollywood films ? 1.Code switching with English
in the Indian situation English in Bollywood frequently takes the form of code switching. In a
bilingual speech community, speakers tend to mix words, phrases, clauses and sentences when
they communicate with others. They are able to switch linguistically built upon different
situations. When two languages are expressed in this way, they differ remarkable from the same
languages as spoken in their separate social systems. This kind of interference on the discourse
level is known as code switching (Malhotra, S. 1980). Since 1957, English was spoken by upper
and middle social class in India for social and economic reasons and then it gradually became a
symbol of higher social status. Consequently, a handful of upper middle class North Indians can

registers, style identification ( sankritized , persianized or englishized Hindi) and elucidation and
interpretation through the use of words like maine (Persian), arhat( Sanskrit) for meaning. The
second reason is that lexical items are usually viewed as being contextually and attitudinally
neutral and may be adopted to conceal social or regionally identity, which is characterized by
neutralization. Next, it is because of the a variety of discourse related functions of English which
includes repeating, emphasizing, heightening contrast, creating surprise, making parenthetical
remarks, teasing, challenging or reporting others speech. According to Eilert (2006), English
used by speakers for some situations like : if I do not get the proper word in Hidi , for

An Hour Woman
The story of an hour, was a bit confusing the first time I read it. The second time that I read the
passage it became clearer to me. It is as one of those stories that mess with your mind throughout
the writing and then at the end drop a huge bomb on the readers, that leaves you more confused
than when you first began reading.
At the beginning of the story I thought that she would allow the death of her husband take a huge
toll on her emotions and her life. On page 1 paragraph 3 line 2, it states She wept at once, with
sudden, wild abandonment, in her sister s arms. She instantly felt grief, as if a dark cloud blocked
her sunshine. This is not what struck me about her opinion on the women population during the
19th century it was the line before that where it is written that she did not hear the story the way
other women would. This suggested that the woman in the 19th century didn t have enough strength
in them to accept the absence of their husband, and continue living their lives. Women surrounded
their lives around these men that they married.
In page 2 paragraph 2 line 5, it says, She said it over and over under her breath: free, free, free! . It
puts the thought in the readers mind that marriage was an imprisonment to the wives. The question
does arise, why not leave if they felt so trapped and chained to their husbands? ... Show more

On page 2 paragraph 5, it starts off with the following sentences, And yet she had loved him
sometimes. Often, she had not. What did it matter! Why marry someone in which you did not love?
A small amount of affection will not last you the years of marriage that they are bound to. It is
society, which includes the parents of the women during this the 19th century, that installed this
mentality in these women that they must be married in order to have a source of life. They

Reflection On System Analysis And Design
INTRODUCTION: This is my reflective consolidation paper which is an end of course
assignment and writing this essay about the experience I had while studying the course System
analysis and design. When I went to my advisor for advising courses then she told me about
System analysis and design and explained me clearly about this course then this course made
me realise that I have a lot to learn and found it as very interesting and challenging. As it is my
second semester this course is best till now, the main reason I have selected this course is my
tutor Dr. Anne kohnke, the way she teaches the class is impressive and definitely very kind
heartened woman. Also in the first semester she taught us Enterprise Information Technology the
framework made to work efficiently by giving good knowledge in that course. Here I want to
discuss what is System analysis and design, when and where the concepts are used and how to
overcome the problems using these concepts. The methodology of using characterizing the parts,
structural engineering, interfaces and information for a framework to fulfil the decided necessities
is said as system design. This course is helpful in developing the designing and analysing skills.

Ethos And Pathos In Me Talk Pretty One Day By David Sedaris
This essay Me Talk Pretty One Day about the author David Sedaris stands one of his phenomenal
pieces that he got us used to. He indicated several techniques throughout his essay that included
more meaning and humor to his selection. It s much easier to be anything other than being
humorous and comedic on paper, however David Sedariscontinues to be a brilliant author in his
selection for the language techniques that he uses to deliver the smile upon our faces; the extensive
imagination to the scenes of his story. David develops his thesis through delicate humor and
entertaining anecdote of his French course and his know it all professor who finds enjoyment of
belittling her students.
One of the most techniques I notice that David uses his selection is the style of Persuasion; Ethos,
Logo and Pathos. The techniques that he used to help broaden the audience s imagination; creating
a clear view of the scenes to what the author is talking about and how he was feeling during those
scenes. David used Pathos for most of his essay, leading his audience into his feelings and emotions
as he tells us his story. In addition to the earlier techniques, David came across some simple,
entertaining methods to accomplish the purpose of this selection (Entertainment). David implied
gibberish words which made it a lot more interesting and enjoyable.
David s first impression of his teacher was: She s mean and very sarcastic with her responses. At
that point he knew he was in trouble. So, he

Liesl invites Dunstan to come have lunch with her and Paul. It is because of her insistence that
Paul and Dunstan become friends that Paul is compelled to repay Dunstan the money he stole.
That night when I was making my usual prudent Canadian Scots count, I found that several bills
had found their way into my wallet, slightly but not embarrassingly exceeding the sum that had
disappeared from it when last I met with Paul. I began to think better of Eisengrim. When Paul
repays Dunstan, Dunstan realizes he can now trust Paul. With the help of Liesl, Dunstan has
made a friend with a member of the underworld. These two people will help Dunstan to continue
on with his journey. The next step of Dunstan s journey is to completely leave his life behind
and begin a brand new one. He enters into a new world. This occurs when Dunstan became a
member of Magnus Eisengrim s entourage. He begins to travel with Magnus because he still
wants adventure and he knows that it does not occur often. He says: This looked liked an
adventure, and, at fifty, adventures do not come every day. Dunstan s journey is based on
adventure. He does not know what he is getting into by joining Magnus Eisengrim s entourage.
There will be something different each day; something new and surprising. By entering a new
world, Dunstan is completing one more step of his journey. Dunstan has now reached the point in

How Does Conflict Reflect Change and Build Suspense
At one point in their life, every person feels fear, but they way it influences varies from person to
person. In the short fictional story, The Most Dangerous Game, Richard Connell uses conflict to
incorporate many major aspects to his story. Because of conflict, Connell is able to create a
thrilling environment as it reflects crucial change in Rainsford and builds suspense. In The Most
Dangerous Game, Rainsford is first revealed as an advocate of hunting, however, external conflict
indicates a change in Rainsford. At the start of the story, Rainsford expresses his philosophy
concerning hunting. Be a realist. The world is made up of two classes the huntees and hunters (2).

The Marine Insurance Act 1906
Introduction.
The Marine Insurance Act 1906 ( MIA 1906 ) sets out a duty of utmost good faith between
contracting parties in insurance contracts. This duty is unusual in English contract law and imposes
a heavy burden on the parties. As a result, it has been the subject of much academic debate,
culminating in statutory reforms. This essay will analyse the duty in both its traditional and revised
form, focusing on whether its merits outweigh its weaknesses and whether it should be retained.
The duty in brief.
Utmost good faith ( UGF ) (or uberrima fides) imposes a requirement of honesty and of full
disclosure between contracting parties. The distinction between good faith and UGF is unclear. It
has been suggested that good faith is simply fair and open dealing between all contracting parties .
UGF instead imposes a negative obligation not to make misleading statements as well as a positive
obligation to disclose facts which might affect the other party entering into the contract.
The roots of the duty of utmost good faith.
The principle of uberrima fides in the insurance contract has been traced back to Lord Mansfield in
Carter v Boehm, with the first judicial attempt to set out the duty. He based the duty of disclosure
on the fact that insurance is a contract upon speculation , highlighting the imbalance of information
between the insurer and the assured. The contingency is calculated on facts which are generally
only known to the assured. This was regarded by Lord

the destination, satisfying the total demand at each destination.
The constraints include: the availability of trucks and cranes at the locations, types of trucks and
cranes needed for specific products and origin destinations, the time and cost involved with each
type of truck and crane (time and money constraint), time of arrival of trucks at destinations, which
decide the number of cranes needed for unloading, and, finally, labor and policy constraints (such as
the maximum working hours per day/week).

The demand is for various types of logs (depending on the length and diameter required). The task
of the planner is to select the timber stands to harvest so that depending on the height of the trees,
the demand for various types of logs can be satisfied through minimum number of trees without
wasting much timber for lower grade pulp.
The objective function is to maximize the profit (or, in other words, minimize the total harvesting

i) Total volume of timber available ii) Harvesting capacity constraint iii) Supply constraint, i.e., the

Analysis Of The Film Sankofa
For people of African descent, both in America and abroad, the questions and facts of enslavement
in the New World carry heavy questions of blame, assessment, wonder, and humiliation. For
contemporary citizens of the Americas, those diasporic questions are borne of race, morality,
disenfranchisement, and economic enforcement, raising larger questions centered in shared cultural
experience. Conspicuously, if film, as art, is to be looked at as a cultural artifact, then black
independent film and the recounting of black lived experiences can be seen as artistic markers of
racial progress, evidenced identity, and the claim to self definition, leading to questions centered on
the ways in which meaning is made of cultural experience as it is represented and shared.
It is to these questions that the film Sankofa (Gerima, 1994) addresses itself. Sankofa is not
simply a slave movie in the Hollywood sense of films like Amistad (Spielberg, 1997), Django
Unchained (Tarrantino, 2012), 12 Years a Slave (McQueen, 2013), Band of Angels Walsh (1957),
or Gone With the Wind (Fleming, 1939). Unlike these films, Sankofa stands outside of Hollywood
standards by demonstrating itself to be a black film as defined by film philosopher Tommy L. Lott:
...(F)undamentally concerned with issues that currently define the political struggle for black people
... (Sankofa) incorporates a plurality of political values that are consistent with the fate and destiny
of black people as a group engaged in a

Louisa May Alcott My Contraband Summary
Louisa May Alcott s My Contraband and Its Ethical Implications As stated by intellectual Joseph
Wong, influence is our inner ability to lift people up to our perspectives (Young Ch. 6). Throughout
history, numerous writers have utilized their ability to impact their readers to encourage their
audience to follow the author s principles and beliefs. Louisa May Alcott, born in Pennsylvania in
1832, was the type of writer to use her power to influence her lectors views on the topics and
issues that she was passionate about. Alcott s father, Amos Bronson Alcott, was a writer,
lecturer, and educator, and her mother, Abba May, was a strong willed and independent woman
and bright educator. Her brilliant parents helped Alcott grow to be an intellectual, an
independent female, and, as mentioned by Clark Moreland in one of his lectures, ...a dark
headed, volatile, and energetic child ( Lecture 3.4... ). After her parents fell into deep debt,
Alcott began to work to support her family. She served as a seamstress, teacher, and, of course, a
writer. As an open minded individual, Alcott was an advocate of many causes and policies, and,
through her compositions, she shared her beliefs to guide her readers towards integrating her
ideals into their lives. For instance, in 1863, Alcott released her work My Contraband, first titled
The Brothers. The piece featured a Civil War nurse, Faith Dane, in the Union side who was in
charge of caring for a captured, dying Confederate captain and

Respondnt Identification Report
I would rule to revoke the Respondent s driver s license in this situation. Pursuant to C.R.S. В§
42 4 1301.1(2)(a)(III), if a law enforcement officer requests a blood or breath test to determine the
BAC level of a driver, the driver must cooperate with the request such that the sample of blood or
breath can be obtained within two hours of the person s driving. Under this statute, a policeofficer
with probable cause believing that a driver has committed an alcohol related driving offense may
require the driver to select and to complete either a blood test or a breath test. After the driver
selects a particular test, then he or she must submit to that test within two hours. Id.; People v. Null,

We do know the officer was dispatched to the scene at 5:50 PM and the test occurred at 7:15
PM. In this situation, two hours hadn t even passed since the officer knew of the incident,
though possibly two hours from the Respondent driving. However, pursuant to Boom and
Stumpf, as long as a request for the test is made within a reasonable time and the test occurs
within two hours of that time, there should be no issue presented by these facts. In my opinion,
the officer requested the test within a reasonable time from being dispatched to the scene, just
over an hour after being dispatched. It is difficult to say with certainty based on these facts what
occurred. While we do not need the law enforcement officer to be present at the hearing, see
C.R.S. В§ 42 2 126(8)(a)(II), we do need the officer to submit all required documents and affidavit
mandated by В§ 42 2 126(5)(a). For blood or breath tests administered to a driver suspected of
drunk driving to be admissible in administrative proceedings regarding revocation of a driver s
license, the tests must be administered in accordance with health department rules and
regulations. Brewer v. Motor Vehicle Div., Dept. of Revenue, 720 P.2d 564, 568 (Colo.
1986).Therefore, in these circumstances I would rule to revoke Respondent s driver s license
since his BAC was well over the legal limit of 0.08 and because the officer administered the test
within a reasonable time. Even without the officer present to testify, there should be enough
evidence presented for a revocation of the Respondent s license pursuant to C.R.S. В§

Essay on Artifical Heart Can Save Lives
Have you ever met someone that needed a heart transplant? Their heart was failing and the only
way that they could continue to live and escape death was to have an operation to transplant their
heart. But what if there was not a heart available for them when they required it the most? An
artificial heart transplant would be a great option that could save their life. The artificial heartis one
of the greatest inventions ever invented. Dr. Robert Jarvikis widely known as the inventor of the
first permanent total artificial heart. (Jarvikheart.com). Robert Koffler Jarvik is the outstanding

His idea was successful because he was soon accepted into Utah s medical school where he
earned a degree in the year 1976. Sadly, his father passed away after suffering from an aneurysm
shortly after Robert received his degree. As he was attending the medical school in Utah, there
were already artificial heart designs that were in the process of being developed. The problem
behind the early designs was developing a pump that had a sufficient power source. Robert
Jarvik was on the right path to becoming a successful inventor devoted to helping people around
the world. While Robert was operating with the institution, the team he was working with had
developed the Kwann Gett heart . This device acted as a pumping device with a rubber
diaphragm that would move blood in and out as if it were an actual heart. The team tested animals
with this first instead of humans and they soon found out that the problem with it was that it
caused unnecessary clotting which could ultimately have lead the patient to death instead of
correcting their health problem with their heart. Robert was able to create a new and improved
version of the artificial heart which was called the, Jarvik 3 . This corrected the clotting flaw that
the other artificial heart had by substituting the rubber of the synthetic heart for three malleable
sheets of polyurethane also known as biomer. Later on, he was able to develop a device that was to
succeed the Jarvik 3 .

Themes In Walk Two Moons By Sharon Creech
Do you know what it s like to feel abandoned? In the book Walk Two Moons by Sharon Creech
there are a lot of themes like independency, family and many others. The ones that I like the most
that I feel are the best and most represented are, motherhood and abandonment. I feel like in the
book Sal is the most affected by these themes. On the start of the book Sal and her father moved to
Euclid, Ohio after her mothers death. After that event Sal went through a lot of mixed feelings, she
was feelingenvious and guilty because she thought her mother wasn t happy with her so she was
envy that she wanted another child, and when her mother lost the baby she felt guilty thinking it
was her fault. She was also angry at her father because she thought he was the one who drove her
mother away. And she was also feeling like she was abandoned because her mother left , and
when the accident happened she felt sad because she never said goodbye to her mother and there
was also a lot more of change, changes she never wanted to happen. Before Sal s mother left her

Collectivism, like individualism, has two extremes ranging from willing cooperation at one end to
a grudging acceptance at the other (Farnham D, 1993, p36 7) It is important to understand that no
company is strictly individualist or collectivist and the links between the two employee relations
are not incompatible with each other. Overall, BA has the collectivist approach because large
emphasis is on the group. One such example is the nurturing of cabin crew. Families of staff are
created to work the same shift patterns. This was pursued to encourage mutual support, make cabin
crew feel comfortable about their working environment, and as a result, facilitate the production of
emotional labour (I Grugulis and A Wilkinson, 2001, p13).
#61656;Unitary or pluralist management styles?
As for a particular type of Management style in practice, this is difficult to say, as there is overlap
between the two main categories; unitary and the pluralist. BA has some of the characteristics of
the unitary approach in the sense that the different departments consist of teams of people working
together towards common aims and there s a presence of strong leadership to create loyalty. Strong
emphasis is placed on employee training, which BA takes very seriously in order to create

  • 2. The Benefits Of Negative Visualization By Oliver Burkeman Throughout generations, people believed that having positive visualizations can make situations better, however when you are in a situation that gives you a negative outcome you become devastated. Oliver Burkeman in his essay, The Benefits of Negative Visualization discusses how negative visualization is more likely to make people happier than positive visualization. Burkeman supported that negative visualization makes an individualhappier rather than positive visualization; he supported this claim by describing how spending time and focusing on how well things would go reduces one s motivation to achieve their goal. Tranquility gives individuals the opportunity to focus on negative emotions, positive thinkers are less prepared and more acutely distressed, negative visualization causes less stress, and being prepared for the worst case scenariohelps establish what to expect. When using negative visualization, it would be beneficial to use it to prepare oneself for the worst case scenarios and to reduce both fear and anxiety. In regards to Burkeman s position, I can relate to the information he is presenting and apply it to my personal life. Therefore, I can strongly agree with his point of view that negative visualization is more likely to make an individual happier than positive visualization. (topic sentence) Before I tried out for Track and Field, I imagined myself getting a bad time running my mile, imagining how half way into the mile I would be puffing for air, my sides beginning to burn, and I would be struggling to breathe. This was something that was unnecessary for me to think about considering I would do the mile twice a week for regular physical education. When it came to throwing both the shot put and the discus I imagined myself struggling to pick up the eight pound shot put and having it roll out of my hand because my fingers were not able to stand the weight of it. How I d go pick up the discus and I d be unable to hold on to it right, even if it was similar to a Frisbee. This then led me to visualize something even more severe than not being able to throw which was throwing it backwards and making a total fool of myself. When it came to jumps, I replayed in my head over and over again ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

SAB decided to establish its own bottle making plants in 1917. Actual production, however, did not begin until 1919, the year the war ended.

SAB was financially strong enough in 1921 to purchase the Grand Hotel in Cape Town, an important addition to the company s lodging business. SAB gained an interest in the mineral water business in 1925, when it purchased a substantial interest in the Schweppes Company. The Great Depression of the early 1930s had little effect on the South African brewing industry; SAB continued to expand its operations and improve its facilities. Looking at the workforce, women and minorities are struggling to advance in their careers. They are the ones who are mostly affected by the glass ceiling. This gives Caucasian men the upper hand in their battles to reach top management positions. In our organizations, men s experiences are assumed to be the norm, while women s experiences are looked down upon. Women s experiences are considered beneath those of men, narrowly categorized, or often times excluded altogether. We see more women positions in the Administrative or Clerical fields and not so often in the Technical fields. When compared to men, women are often left behind when it comes to advancement even if they have the same educational background and work experiences. But the work place is now changing. Women are shooting to the top of high tech companies, dot.com startups and Internet favorites, with a speed that promises to permanently change the way we think about women, work and power (Gerber, 2000). Despite women s advances in the workforce, they still strive to emerge and grow out of male oppression and move to a higher social position where they belong. This institutionalized gender discrimination affects both the private and the public sectors where women are often the victims of this type of crime. Through observation it is concluded that we ... Wants would be and can be anything, more expensive foods could be a want, more clothing could be a want. If we look at figure 1 you can see consumption from the three basic needs food, clothing and housing. The most interesting thing we can see from the graph is that nothing stands out as being a dominate quarterly for food and housing other than the steady rise in spending with yearly progression. Clothing as it turns out has since 2010 has always had a growth from fourth quarter to first quarter. Quarters and Seasons Revenues Now Walmart is a good choice in my opinion for following seasonal consumer spending, that reason being is that they spend a lot of effect to carter to each season and holiday s, they also spend a lot of time on demographics catering to each as well. (2012) and published in daily telegraph online edition on 13 March 2012 , critically review the fact more children are being taught in mixed ability classrooms and how it impacts the brighter students and over all school performance. The article suggests that brighter pupils can be held back by their weaker classmates. The recently published research work by the Royal Economic Society showed that a large number of low achieving pupils in class had negative impact on the bright children s performance. The data about mixed ability classroom was released by Ofsted, after question by conservative MP for Kingswood. However their art work promoted such things as goodness in nature, serenity, graceful balance, spiritual perfection, and a mystical harmony within themselves. There work avoided confusion, conflict and violent emotions at all costs. New or unprecedented experiments in their art work was never welcomed, and the expression of nobility and inner worth where demanded. The Shang people came into history half way through the second millennium B.C., these people also lived in pounded earth settlements, and made funeral vessels. These people established the li which was the basic metallic shape used in their bronzes. Not only was the li used, but also other shapes have been discovered. In recent excavations, thousands of different vessels have been found, however it is possible to distinguish about forty basic shapes of the vessels. Each vessel served a different purpose in sacrifice or funeral ceremonies. Some where used for wine and water, some for storing foods, while others where used for cooking meats. The Shang dynasty have left some sculptures as original and different as there bronzes. However none of the large statue survived excavations. The importance of the excavations cannot be overemphasized. Who would have imagined an ancient culture so rich that they actually created stone sculptures, wheel made pottery, carved jade, and bronzes, which have never been surpassed. Too often when people speak of Oriental art they think that both China and Japan developed in the same way and the same time. This statement however is false, and the Japanese art did not start till several years after Chinese art did. • 16. Evolution Of The Modern Era Of Skateboarding Prior to the days of Dogtown, skateboarding was dead. However, as soon as the Dogtown culture came alive, so did the modern era of skateboarding. As a result of surfing, the California drought of the 1970s, and the film work and photography of Craig Stecyk, this once dead sport has risen from the dead for good. It all began in the early 1970s when Dogtown, located in Venice Beach, California was home to a secret surfingcove. This area was constantly populated by pyromaniacs, drug addicts, artists, and of course surfers , but most importantly the Zephyr surf team. This team was known as The mafia of the waves (Peralta, 2002). While surfing on the coast, this team relentlessly practiced new and unique moves on the beachfront. Little did they... As years went on, the minds and creativity of skaters was bound to evolve. The boys from Dogtown did just that. With reference to my second point, these skaters took advantage of Mother Nature. When the California drought of the 1970s occurred, they made use of the architecture that was not being used. Seaside pools became more than just an empty unusable piece of land built underground, but a bowl for skaters to develop their innovation for the future of the sport (Hayes, 2005). The availability of television time also had an impact on the rise of skate. While the status of skateboarding was taking off, so was television and sport. The 1980s marked the introduction of innumerable network options (Cable s Story, 2015). Not long after in the mid 1990s, the X Games kicked off and included skateboarding as one of its activities. The Islamic Insurgency Of Afghanistan Mullah Akhtar Mansour and the Rising Threat of Islamic Insurgency in Afghanistan War and conflict have raged in Southeast and Central Asia for centuries due to civil unrest and political instability. The rise of the Taliban and other militant insurgencies have escalated the dangers and unpredictability of an already unstable government in Afghanistan. The appointment of the new Talibanleader Mullah Akhtar Mansour could result in a dangerous liaison with ISIS. The agenda of these jihadist extremists is the take over the Afghan and Pakistan governments in favor of the more stringent Islamic ways of the Taliban. These groups, professing to do the work of God, are perpetrating a coarse and distorted interpretation of Islam and the Quran. Insurgents have committed violent acts including the killing of police, military personnel, assassinations of political figures, and suicide bombings (Ghufran, 2009, pg 44). Due to the dangerous capabilities of the Taliban combining with the organizational competence of ISIS, the United States coalition forces must be cautious about leaving too quickly from Afghanistan, which will also affect Pakistan. The Birth of the Taliban The Taliban emerged in 1994 from a group of guerilla type Muslim Mujahidin that had fought in the Afghan and Soviet war and were dissatisfied and disillusioned with their current leadership. Modernist and Post modernist in Development Modernism is closely associated with the setting in of modern civilization compared to postmodernism. It is modernism that lay the foundation for postmodernism (Muller 312). After the World War II, the human race achieved what is referred to as postmodernism. The two concepts may appear antagonistic in nature, but a closer look at each reveals how well each complements the other. Art and literature are among the numerous human aspects that have been influenced in diverse ways by the concepts of modernismand post modernism. Many see it as a negative policy which gives an unnecessary advantage to minorities in America. In a 2009 Pew Poll, 58% of African Americans agree and only 22% whites agree that there should be preferential treatment to improve the position of blacks and other minorities ( Public Backs Affirmative Action). Affirmative action or positive discrimination is a policy in which those who have been discriminated on in the past or who tend to be discriminated on presently are favored, usually in relation to education or jobs. Every time contemplating the miracles of the nature. Enjoying the infinite universe with just two finite eyes just enough. Every creature that can see has a power. And all creatures have another one called the art of seeing vision. Can we do without the windows of soul eyes? Can we live with feelings and vision? This question can have thousands of questions full of emotions. A diversity of thoughts for a theme that raises contradictions. I think no, you think maybe but what does Dickinson think? What does the blind poet that feels the world from her room thinks? Some critics have used her life to try to explain her poetry, and others have tried to explain her life by referring to her poems, which they assume are autobiographical. In addition to giving a brief background on Just In Time inventory system s benefits, the article s main focus is the risks that JIT systems face. Just In Time inventory (JIT) is part of a production system whereby a firm vastly reduces inventory from its production processes so that utilization of production inputs and delivery of finished products are accomplished without incurring significant holding costs. While JIT inventory systems are quite attractive for this reason, they are a double edged sword. And though a JIT system might even be a necessity given the inventory demands of certain business types, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Shipping the same quantity of a product to different retail outlets, for example, might not make much sense if the demand for that good is significantly greater at one location relative to another. This approach to delivery cost savings also facilitates decreases in aforementioned holding costs by not overstocking certain locations with a product. The same principle holds for inputs in production; parts are not delivered and held at production centers where they might lay idle. Some positive externalities may also result from a firm s decision to implement a JIT system. Suppliers of such a firm, for example, might then be able handle larger orders but fulfill them with smaller shipments. That is to say that for any given order size, supplying a customer that utilizes JIT is typically easier to do because individual shipments tend to be smaller for these customers and thus tend to be less demanding of the supplier. So it might be possible for suppliers, merely by the nature of their customers JIT system, to greatly expand their ability to fill larger orders without having to increase production capacity. Several factors, however, make JIT systems a risky proposition. A key concern here is the extent to which firms are dependent upon particular suppliers under such an inventory system. For example, if a firm were to commission a highly proprietary product to a single supplier (single suppliers being common in JIT), a JIT ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This is what makes this practice so compelling today. For example, our inner attitude towards money doesn t have anything to do with the money we have. Under TANTRA s view, there is nothing wrong about having money or enjoying life, or being tall/short, or fat/thin, or being married /single, or being employed/unemployed.., but whatever the circumstances, the attitude should be of detachment and equanimity, then a sense of freedom arises. So the world and our conditions become an ally instead of a hindrance in our spiritual development. The gastroenterologist and the surgeon have a goal to fix the problem while the mental health professional s goal is to see the problem continue so they can continue to listen... and to bill for services. Many as well as myself believe this is the very reason as to why patients can spend years enduring psychotherapy and other forms of mental health care and actually be no better than when they came under care. This is not what struck me about her opinion on the women population during the 19th century it was the line before that where it is written that she did not hear the story the way other women would. This suggested that the woman in the 19th century didn t have enough strength in them to accept the absence of their husband, and continue living their lives. Women surrounded their lives around these men that they married. In page 2 paragraph 2 line 5, it says, She said it over and over under her breath: free, free, free! . This duty is unusual in English contract law and imposes a heavy burden on the parties. As a result, it has been the subject of much academic debate, culminating in statutory reforms. This essay will analyse the duty in both its traditional and revised form, focusing on whether its merits outweigh its weaknesses and whether it should be retained. The duty in brief. Utmost good faith ( UGF ) (or uberrima fides) imposes a requirement of honesty and of full disclosure between contracting parties. The distinction between good faith and UGF is unclear. It has been suggested that good faith is simply fair and open dealing between all contracting parties . UGF instead imposes a negative obligation not to make misleading statements as well as a positive obligation to disclose facts which might affect the other party entering into the contract. The roots of the duty of utmost good faith. The principle of uberrima fides in the insurance contract has been traced back to Lord Mansfield in Carter v Boehm, with the first judicial attempt to set out the duty. He based the duty of disclosure on the fact that insurance is a contract upon speculation , highlighting the imbalance of information between the insurer and the assured. The contingency is calculated on facts which are generally only known to the assured. This was regarded by Lord ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 48. Analysis Of The Film Sankofa For people of African descent, both in America and abroad, the questions and facts of enslavement in the New World carry heavy questions of blame, assessment, wonder, and humiliation. For contemporary citizens of the Americas, those diasporic questions are borne of race, morality, disenfranchisement, and economic enforcement, raising larger questions centered in shared cultural experience. Conspicuously, if film, as art, is to be looked at as a cultural artifact, then black independent film and the recounting of black lived experiences can be seen as artistic markers of racial progress, evidenced identity, and the claim to self definition, leading to questions centered on the ways in which meaning is made of cultural experience as it is represented and shared. It is to these questions that the film Sankofa (Gerima, 1994) addresses itself. Sankofa is not simply a slave movie in the Hollywood sense of films like Amistad (Spielberg, 1997), Django Unchained (Tarrantino, 2012), 12 Years a Slave (McQueen, 2013), Band of Angels Walsh (1957), or Gone With the Wind (Fleming, 1939). Unlike these films, Sankofa stands outside of Hollywood standards by demonstrating itself to be a black film as defined by film philosopher Tommy L. Throughout history, numerous writers have utilized their ability to impact their readers to encourage their audience to follow the author s principles and beliefs. Louisa May Alcott, born in Pennsylvania in 1832, was the type of writer to use her power to influence her lectors views on the topics and issues that she was passionate about. Alcott s father, Amos Bronson Alcott, was a writer, lecturer, and educator, and her mother, Abba May, was a strong willed and independent woman and bright educator. Her brilliant parents helped Alcott grow to be an intellectual, an independent female, and, as mentioned by Clark Moreland in one of his lectures, ...a dark headed, volatile, and energetic child ( Lecture 3.4... ). After her parents fell into deep debt, Alcott began to work to support her family. She served as a seamstress, teacher, and, of course, a writer. As an open minded individual, Alcott was an advocate of many causes and policies, and, through her compositions, she shared her beliefs to guide her readers towards integrating her ideals into their lives. Under this statute, a policeofficer with probable cause believing that a driver has committed an alcohol related driving offense may require the driver to select and to complete either a blood test or a breath test. However, pursuant to Boom and Stumpf, as long as a request for the test is made within a reasonable time and the test occurs within two hours of that time, there should be no issue presented by these facts. In my opinion, the officer requested the test within a reasonable time from being dispatched to the scene, just over an hour after being dispatched. It is difficult to say with certainty based on these facts what occurred. While we do not need the law enforcement officer to be present at the hearing, see C.R.S.
