Issues of Objectivity and Credibility regarding Political news on Social mediaAqsa Nadeem
This document is a research proposal examining credibility and objectivity issues regarding political news shared on social media. It discusses how leaders of political parties in Pakistan, such as PTI and PAT, used Facebook to criticize the government and other parties from August to November 2014. The proposal aims to analyze public responses on Facebook to see if they are emotionally biased or consider the credibility of news. The literature review discusses past research on media attribution, contingent factors affecting credibility, and bias. However, none have specifically analyzed political campaigns on social media. The methodology will use content analysis to code Facebook comments on key parties for neutrality, subjectivity, and contempt. A pilot study analyzed 40 comments, finding most PTI and PAT supporters followed leaders blindly

This document discusses several studies that aimed to analyze social media data like tweets to track and predict political sentiment and elections. Some key findings include:
- Classifying tweets by political leaning using text or network analysis achieved over 80% accuracy in some cases. Hashtag propagation was able to identify pro/anti protest sentiment with over 90% accuracy.
- Analyzing the overlap in audiences of news sources on Twitter correlated with known media bias scores, suggesting social media data could quantify bias.
- A study of the 2010 US Senate election found the "vocal minority" of highly active tweeters may have different agendas than the "silent majority" of less active users.
- Other research explored detecting politically motivated

This paper presents the results of a new monitoring project of the US presidential elections with the aim of establishing computer-based tools to track in real time the popularity or awareness of candidates. The designed and developed innovative methods allow us to extract the frequency of queries sent to numerous search engines by US Internet users. Based on these data, this paper demonstrates that Trump was more frequently searched than the Democratic candidates, either Hillary Clinton in 2016 or Joe Biden in 2020. When analyzing the topics, it is observed that in 2020 the US users had shown a remarkable interest in two subjects, namely, Coronavirus and Jobs (unemployment). Interest for other topics such as Education or Healthcare were less pronounced while issues such as Immigration were given even less attention by users. Finally, some “flame” topics such as Black Lives Matter (2020) and Gun Control (2016) appear to be very popular for a few weeks before returning to a low level of interest. When analyzing tweets sent by candidates during the 2020 campaign, one can observe that Trump was focused mainly on Jobs and on Riots, announcing what would happen if Democrats took power. To these negative ads, Biden answered by putting forward moral values (e.g., love, honesty) and political symbols (e.g., democracy, rights) and by underlying the failure of the current administration in resolving the pandemic situation.

FedCASIC 2019: Topic Salience and Propensity to Respond to Surveys: Findings ...Lew Berman
Main Theories on Nonresponse (Tourangeau and Piewes 2013) include Social Capital , Leverage-Salience Theory, Social Exchange Theory. The origins of Leverage-Salience Theory are from Groves and Couper (1998). Researchers observe that respondents vary in terms of the attributes of a survey request that they judge as relevant to their decision to participate. Thus Expert interviewers tailor the features of their request to heighten the salience of those elements they think will be most favorably received by potential respondent.
We look at topic salience and propensity to respond to surveys using findings from a study using a national mobile panel.

The document discusses a study on the role of Twitter in the 2010 Nevada Senate race between Harry Reid and Sharron Angle. It begins by providing background on Twitter and how it has been used in political campaigns. It then discusses different theories about how the internet and new technologies can impact political participation and engagement. Specifically, it examines the instrumental approach which posits that lower communication costs increase participation, and the psychological approach which argues individual motivations and attributes determine online political involvement. The document will analyze tweets from Reid and Angle's campaigns and compare them to mainstream media coverage, in order to understand how Twitter was utilized in this competitive Senate election.

Discussion 1
Choose ONE of the following questions to answer in the Discussion Board:
1. Review Figure 1.3, "Individualism as a value in the United States compared to other democracies." Why do you believe people in America respond so differently to this question than do people in other, Western European, countries?
2. After reading the text in the box, "The More Things Change, The More They Stay The Same: The Continuing Call to the Federalist Papers" in Chapter 2, do you believe the Federalist Papers are still relevant for understanding the U.S. Constitution?
3. The Bill of Rights was intended to protect certain fundamental rights for all citizens against actions of the national government. Should the U.S. Constitution provide the same protections for all citizens against actions of state governments, or should it be up to each state whether to protect fundamental rights for citizens within the state?
Discussion 2
Choose ONE of the following questions to answer in the Discussion Board:
1. Review Figure 6.1, "Confidence in Congress." Why do you believe Congress receives such a low confidence rating?
2. Do you believe the committee system in Congress is beneficial to the law-making process? Why or why not?
3. What are your views on members "bringing home the bacon" through pork-barrel legislation? What if the funding is for a project in your hometown?
Discussion 3
Choose ONE of the following questions to answer in the Discussion Board:
1. In Table 7.1, the authors provide a list of the 10 greatest Presidents of all time, according to two separate polls by historians (in 2005 and 2009). What criteria, or methodology, do you feel should be used when making this type of assessment?
2. Review the text box in Chapter 7, "The More Things Change, The More They Stay The Same: Foreign Policy Successes That Boosted Young President." Do you believe the President's foreign policy powers should be dominant and he should have exclusive control over foreign relations, or do you believe Congress should play more of a role in these affairs?
3. Understanding the manner in which cabinet appointees are selected and the role that they serve, do you believe that they should primarily support and advocate for the policy positions of the President, or do you think that they should have more independence in expressing their opinions and making decisions regarding their department?
Discussion 4
Choose ONE of the following questions to answer in the Discussion Board:
1. If politics and legal issues are so often intertwined, should the composition of the Court include seasoned politicians as well as career jurists?
2. Do you believe a Supreme Court nominee's political views should play a role in his/her approval by the Senate?

A strategic approach to policy engagement for research organisationsJames Georgalakis
This is the presentation delivered as part of a two day workshop held in Nepal in 2014 aimed at communications professionals or the point person for communication within fifteen South Asian think tanks. Participants explored how they could adopt a systematic approach to planning research or knowledge outputs for policy engagement and influence. They explored the types of influencing outcomes they are focused on and their individual and institutional capacities to deliver strategic communication and policy engagement work. By the end of the workshop it was hoped that each participating institution would have identified a clear set of steps towards the development of a strategic approach to policy engagement and research communication at an institutional or programmatic level.
This workshop formed part of the IDRC funded Think Tanks Initiative South Asia programme. http://www.idrc.ca/EN/Programs/Social_and_Economic_Policy/Think_Tank_Initiative/Pages/About.aspx
Here are the key points about the variables:
- Age and age-squared are included because age is commonly found to impact voter turnout. Age-squared accounts for non-linearity.
- Income is included through low-income and medium-income dummy variables based on research finding a non-linear relationship between income and turnout.
- Education is included through low-education and medium-education dummy variables as higher education is found to increase likelihood to vote.
- Employment status is included as some research found employment decreases turnout.
- Religious status, political trust, political interest, and charity involvement are included as social/civic engagement factors found to increase likelihood to vote.

Appeals to AuthorityIt would be nearly impossible to discover al.docxarmitageclaire49
This document discusses appeals to authority and how to evaluate their strength. It provides examples of strong and weak appeals to authority based on the reliability of the authority and agreement among experts. While appeals to authority can be useful, they are sometimes problematic if the authority has a non-neutral perspective or agenda. This document analyzes survey data collected from six regions in Kolkata to understand factors influencing expectations from the new government elected in 2014. Independent variables like age, income, education level were compared across regions. Jodhpur Park had the highest average income and education level, while Jadavpur had the lowest. Ordered probit regression was used to analyze how independent variables affected expectations on dependent variables like growth, infrastructure development, education quality etc. The analysis found expectations varied based on socio-economic factors of respondents.

I do not have enough information to make a claim about whether the net effect of partisan media is a benefit or cost. Reasonable people can disagree on this issue. While partisan media may polarize some viewers and undermine consensus, it also engages citizens, holds politicians accountable, and gives voice to underrepresented groups. Overall impacts depend on complex societal and individual factors. A diversity of high-quality news sources, along with media literacy, may help citizens navigate partisan information flows.
The effect of CSR content and media on reputation and stakeholder communicati...Vera Engelbertink
This document provides an abstract and introduction for a master's thesis that examines the effect of CSR content and media on corporate reputation and stakeholder communication. Specifically, it aims to understand how intrinsic, extrinsic, and combined CSR messages as well as different media types influence a company's reputation and stakeholders' willingness to share or react to CSR messages. The introduction provides background on CSR and discusses how communicating CSR can have both positive and negative effects depending on stakeholders' perceptions of a company's motives. It proposes examining these concepts through an online experiment testing different message types and media on reputation and secondary communication outcomes.
The document discusses the contentious issue of the removal of fuel subsidy in Nigeria in early 2012 and the resulting increase in petrol prices. It argues that the opposition to this policy is largely due to the Nigerian public's lack of trust in the government as a result of past broken promises. It suggests that for the government to regain trust and cooperation, it needs to fulfill its promises to the people and cut wasteful spending to demonstrate its commitment to improving citizens' lives. The document also analyzes whether the policy change is better described as the "removal of subsidy" or a "pump price hike", concluding that most Nigerians see it as the latter due to its direct impact on their cost of living.
The document discusses the problem of lack of knowledge about reputation management and its importance. With the rise of social media, public opinions and perspectives shared online can significantly impact the careers of public figures, politicians, and businesses. However, many are unaware of how crucial reputation is or how to effectively manage it. The document outlines key aspects of reputation management and its role in public relations. It also notes that while reputation is difficult to measure, research shows a positive reputation can greatly increase an entity's worth.
This document presents a conceptual framework for understanding policy capacity. The framework defines policy capacity as the set of skills (competences) and resources (capabilities) needed for policy-making. It categorizes competences into three types - analytical, operational, and political. Capabilities are assessed at the individual, organizational, and system levels. The framework aims to synthesize existing literature on policy capacity and provide a diagnostic tool to identify capacity gaps that can lead to policy failures. It considers policy capacity in all stages of the policy process from agenda-setting to evaluation.
This document discusses the topics that will be covered in a POL 240-01 political science course in Fall 2015. It includes instructions for an in-class activity where students will discuss important issues to watch in 2015 and how they relate to differences between states. It also provides introductory information on key concepts in political science, such as political ideology, governance, quantitative and qualitative analysis, and political culture.

Here is a draft essay on default risk and ways of identifying it:
Introduction
Default risk refers to the possibility that a borrower will fail to make timely payments on their debt obligations. For lenders and investors, understanding and assessing default risk is crucial. Higher default risk indicates a greater likelihood that the borrower may default, resulting in losses for the lender. This essay will discuss default risk and some key ways that lenders and analysts identify and measure default risk.
Credit Ratings
One of the most common ways default risk is assessed is through credit ratings provided by rating agencies such as Moody's, S&P, and Fitch. These agencies analyze a borrower's financial strength and assign a rating that indicates their

CHAPTER 9
Political Analysis and Strategies
Kathleen M. White 1
“The difficult can be done immediately, the impossible takes a little longer.”
Unknown author, Army Corps of Engineers motto, World War II
The knowledge and expertise of nurses regarding health and health care are critical to the political process and the development of health policy. However, the word politics often evokes negative emotions and many nurses may not feel inclined to get involved. Nonetheless, nurses have the skills to be active participants in the political arena for a number of reasons. First, nurses are skilled at assessment, and being engaged in the political process involves analysis of the relevant issues and their background and importance. Second, nurses understand people and, in order to understand an issue, it is critical to know who is affected andwho is involved in trying to solve the problem. Finally, nurses are relationship builders and the political process involves the development of partnerships andnetworks to solve problems. As skilled communicators, nurses have the ability to work with other professionals, patients, families, and their communities to solve health care problems that affect their patients and the health care system. Nurses have much to offer in the political process and need to develop skills in politicalanalysis and strategy to truly make a difference.
What is Political Analysis?
Political analysis is the process of examining an issue and understanding the key factors and people that might potentially influence a policy goal. It involves the analysis of government and organizations, both public and private; people and their behavior; and the social, political, historical, and economic factors surrounding the policy. It also includes the identification and development of strategies to attain or defeat a policy goal. Political analysis involves nine components.
Identification of the Issue
The first step in conducting a political analysis is to identify and describe the issue or problem. Identifying and framing the issue involves asking who, what, when, where, and how questions to gather sufficient information to lay the groundwork for developing an appropriate response to the issue. Start with what you know about the issue:
• What is the issue?
• Is it my issue and can I solve it?
• When did the issue first occur, is it a new or old problem?
• Is this the real issue, or merely a symptom of a larger one?
• Does it need an immediate solution, or can it wait?
• Is it likely to go away by itself?
• Can I risk ignoring it?
Beware of issue rhetoric (Bardach, 2012) that is either too narrowly defining an issue in a technical way, or defining the issue too broadly in a societal way. Decide what is missing from what you know about the issue and gather additional information:
• Why does the problem exist?
• Who is causing the problem?
• Who is affected by the issue?
• How significant is the issue?
81
• What additional information is needed?
•.

Article I Journal Title: Achieving consumer trust on Twitter via CSR communication
The research seeks to establish means that can be used by companies to relay information on corporate social responsibility on social media platforms particularly twitter in an effective manner. It suggests that the involvement of the consumers and the consumer’s own processing mechanisms have a very vital role in so far as an evaluation of the trustworthiness of the companies is concerned.
The topic explored is very relevant since we have seen a continuous trend where various organizations are becoming more and more under pressure when it comes to communicating organizational policies and organizational positions as pertains to corporate social responsibility (CSR). Every market segment needs to be informed about the organization’s good intentions as well as actions so as to have an impression that the corporation is trustworthy. This implies that the market demand that their corporations engage them through dialogue. Notably, the existing academic literature does not have empirical research that seeks to examine impact of asymmetric versus symmetric communication strategies to the consumers.
Research Questions
i. Which strategies have corporations used in communication with their stakeholders about social corporate responsibility initiatives?
ii. Which of the two communication strategies, asymmetric communication and symmetric communication is more effective?
iii. What is the role of stakeholder’s personal information processing mechanisms when it comes to evaluation of trustworthiness of corporations?
Hypothesis
The first hypothesis (H1) states: Asymmetric vs. symmetric CSR communication strategies will have differing impacts on consumer trust in the organization. The second hypothesis (H2) states: Consumer trust is higher among the consumers with high involvement (those being a “green” consumer in symmetric communication.
Considering the hypotheses, it clearly emerges that they are closely linked to the study questions. The formulated questions point into integrated communication approach as used in organizations with particular attention being paid to the relevance of the communication approached to corporate social responsibility. They further go on to address and draw parallels between innovative approaches such as symmetric and asymmetric communication techniques and their impacts on the stakeholders. The above are further captured in the hypotheses especially when we look at the consumer concerns about an organization’s initiatives on social corporate responsibility. For instance, scepticism green consumers have on CSR been capture by H2. Generally, green consumers are very much conscious about the environmental impacts of their purchase as we.

End-to-end pipeline agility - Berlin Buzzwords 2024Lars Albertsson
We describe how we achieve high change agility in data engineering by eliminating the fear of breaking downstream data pipelines through end-to-end pipeline testing, and by using schema metaprogramming to safely eliminate boilerplate involved in changes that affect whole pipelines.
A quick poll on agility in changing pipelines from end to end indicated a huge span in capabilities. For the question "How long time does it take for all downstream pipelines to be adapted to an upstream change," the median response was 6 months, but some respondents could do it in less than a day. When quantitative data engineering differences between the best and worst are measured, the span is often 100x-1000x, sometimes even more.
A long time ago, we suffered at Spotify from fear of changing pipelines due to not knowing what the impact might be downstream. We made plans for a technical solution to test pipelines end-to-end to mitigate that fear, but the effort failed for cultural reasons. We eventually solved this challenge, but in a different context. In this presentation we will describe how we test full pipelines effectively by manipulating workflow orchestration, which enables us to make changes in pipelines without fear of breaking downstream.
Making schema changes that affect many jobs also involves a lot of toil and boilerplate. Using schema-on-read mitigates some of it, but has drawbacks since it makes it more difficult to detect errors early. We will describe how we have rejected this tradeoff by applying schema metaprogramming, eliminating boilerplate but keeping the protection of static typing, thereby further improving agility to quickly modify data pipelines without fear.

4. Research background
• Trust in government is the core power of government.
• It is harder to secure legitimacy and work efficiently than to plan new policy.
• The loss of trust in government increases co-operation cost and acts as obstacle,
so could be a cause of policy failure.
• It would be helpful if analysis of social media to identify public opinion is
conducted on trust in government.
• We will attempt to compare the difference between the opinion and attitude of
Korean and American toward their governments on social media.
01
4
5. Research problem
1. How are the trust and attitude of Korean to the Korean government
expressed in various Social Media? What are public discourses related to
trust in the government?
2. Can social media data be an indicator for measuring the level of trust in
government?
3. How different the Korean’s perspective to the government and the
American’s perspective to the government which has a relatively long
history of democracy?
01
5
6. Definition of terms
• In this study, trust in government is defined to ‘the degree of trust which people
have on governmental performance, in other words, positive expect’. (K M Yang,
2007)
• In the case of Korean Social media, it is hard to differentiate the ‘government’
from ‘present government’ by keyword ‘government’, so in this study, we defined
the target of trust in government as a present government.
• We used a common word ‘government/정부’ as the initial keyword for data
collection, not specific names of administrative agencies.
• In case of American Social media, the target of trust in government is the federal
government which is governed by president.

• H J Son(2005). The studies on trust in government can be categorized to three

• O'Connor, et al. (2010). Analyzes public opinion measured by vote with emotion
extracted from text data. As a result, it is revealed that there is co-relation
between the frequency of emotional words generated in tweeter and trend of
public opinion. (about 80%)
02
8
9. Implication of this study
• Existing studies on trust in government use questionnaire survey, which costs
high and is limited to small sample. This study has an implication that identifying
trust in government empirically by using big social data.
• It is possible to catch various discussions from social media text, which is
impossible from closed questionnaire.
• In abroad, there are more studies to identify public opinion on government of
political issue than in Korea, but the data source is usually singular, not various,
for example, blog, Facebook or Twitter. (Griffiths, 2004)
• This study suggests a new possibility to an area of study on trust in government
by analyzing opinions of people in various social media channel to identify the
level of trust in government in various aspects.
02
9
11. Overall phase03
• It is hard to find study on extracting emotion about ‘trust’ in text data.
• The important thing is how the emotion is extracted in Social media text.
• We decided to find supplement points while conducting the whole process with
the partial data in advance, and proceed the second experiment again.
• Mainly applying Topic Modeling to identify topics related to government.
• The emotion ‘trust’ should be found by emotion analysis rather than sentiment
analysis, so Topic modeling way will be helpful.

1. News article
• Similarity: Most words are ‘noun’s which indicate a certain object. There are just
a few topics related to trust.
2. Tweet
• Similarity: There are a lot of words indicate administration.
• Difference: In Korea, people talk about certain person of the government. 27%
of tweet has words indicate the president of the government.
In America, the objective words indicate government such as ‘government’ are
used. Only 5% of tweet has words indicate the president of the government.
3. Forum comment
• Difference: It could be difference from difference of data source, but in general,
the words from English data are more objective than the words form Korean
data. The most emotional word in English data is ‘stupid’.
05

26. Result 02: Difference of amount of data
1. The difference of mention directly related to trust according to medium
o In American news, there are relatively few mention directly related to trust,
so the amount of filtered data is smaller than in Korean news.
o In Forum comment and tweet, because of the diversity of expression, the
amount of filtered data is smaller than the amount of filtered data from
other mediums.
2. In both America and Korea, there are more contents related to the ‘benevolence’
of the government than contents related to the other factors of trust; It seems
that both nation’s public has a big expectation on welfare or tax.
3. In Korea, there are more contents related to ability than contents related to
integrity, in America, it is opposite. Korean public refer on corruption and fraud,
but American public are more interested in ‘ability’ of the government.

Discussion
• Overall, in Korea, public responds directly (and emotionally) to
social/political issues, but in America, public tends to collectively
express their own opinion about the issues (not emotional response)
and focuses on the political opinion.
