This document is the master's thesis of Yoshiyuki Godo from February 10, 2010. It discusses the construction of self-management functions for distributed networked embedded systems. Specifically, it proposes adding a "secure SQL parser" function to autonomic computing architecture to help manage the diversity and changes in composition of complex networked embedded systems. It then evaluates this approach on two use cases: removing a processing unit from a network and dynamically changing communication interfaces. The thesis references two academic papers published by the author on related research.

Abstract : The use of Embedded system diversifies. There are also a lot of case which builds a
large-scale network system like an in-vehicle network as well as use by an element device like the past.
The network system to build by a built-in device as a part like “Device As a Service” as the newer case is
also proposed. Management of diversity of composition and change in the composition will be a problem
by a built system by such case. Autonomic Computing(AC) Architecture is architecture as the architecture
which manages a network system with the same features.
It’s known as a method by the enterprise systems, but a peculiar access method of a device will be a
problem, and the realization of flexible self-management is difficult. By adding the “secure SQL parser”
function for the AC architecture by this research, a device absorbe the peculiar accesses specification
difference, and the architecture which manages composition with change was proposed.
The use cases that architecture achieves are “removal from a network of the processing unit” and
“dynamic change in communication interface” and the validity by the actual environment was inspected.
