A young German boy goes to great lengths to prevent his mother from learning about the fall of the Berlin Wall and the dissolution of East Germany after she falls into a coma from a heart attack brought on by witnessing his arrest at a protest. Knowing the shock could kill her, the boy keeps their apartment frozen in the past and hides the changes that occurred while she was unconscious. As his mother's health improves and she prepares to resume normal life, maintaining the ruse grows more difficult.
