Abraham Harrison LLC was tasked with boosting awareness of Goethe-Institut Washington's cultural programs and German language courses through social media. They increased the organization's Facebook and Twitter presence, engaged local bloggers, and trained Goethe-Institut staff. This drastically improved the organization's brand awareness and engagement in social media. Ensuring an interactive online community was as important as growing followers. Goethe-Institut Washington now has a stronger social media presence and local connections to continue promoting their offerings.

Abraham Harrison LLC has been working with the New York-based, Northeast-centric non profit organization, Fresh Air Fund for years and we have generally earned over 1,800 posts or more per year as well as manning their Facebook and Twitter profiles. Our outreaches included pleas for host families, donations, for camp counselors, and for other more specific events and promotions.
Family planning with facebook lessons from the country of georgiaJSI
TEN YEARS AGO, Georgia had one of the highest abortion rates in the world and a population deeply skeptical about modern contraceptives. JSI conducted six communication campaigns since 2005 to educate women of reproductive age and youth about the safety and efficacy of modern contraception. JSI used Facebook as an amplifier for other, proven communications channels rather than as a standalone channel. The idea was to use Facebook to increase the reach and effectiveness of traditional channels. The Facebook campaign clearly reached target audiences: JSI increased the number of women who liked the page after seeing our advertising.

Rodrigo Martucci and Mark Harrison put together this presentation for the Measurement Master Class I did on 17 November to a packed house at meshmarketing 2010 in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. However, I sort of went way off script because I am way more of an operations geek and social media evangelist than I am a measurement geek.. I hope this is indeed useful!

2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.

Operation “Blue Star” is the only event in the history of Independent India where the state went into war with its own people. Even after about 40 years it is not clear if it was culmination of states anger over people of the region, a political game of power or start of dictatorial chapter in the democratic setup.
The people of Punjab felt alienated from main stream due to denial of their just demands during a long democratic struggle since independence. As it happen all over the word, it led to militant struggle with great loss of lives of military, police and civilian personnel. Killing of Indira Gandhi and massacre of innocent Sikhs in Delhi and other India cities was also associated with this movement.

2. Abraham Harrison LLC: Case Study – Goethe-Institut
Challenge:
To boost local awareness of Goethe-Institut Washington’s
summer courses and cultural events in the short-term
and build a strong social media following in the longer
term. Engage directly at first, while simultaneously
preparing the Institut staff to be able to handle social
media interaction on their own.
Goethe-Institut is an internationally known organization
whose mission is to promote German language and
culture around the world. Goethe-Institut Washington
tasked Abraham Harrison LLC with the challenge of
reaching out to the local community to raise awareness
via social media of its cultural offerings and German
language courses. It had a very limited social media
presence through which to strengthen brand awareness,
expand existing communities and increase support of the
organization.
3. Abraham Harrison LLC: Case Study – Goethe Institut
Strategy/Tactics:
Create interest in the German culture by actively engaging
in conversations and highlighting the tradition and quality of
the Goethe-Institut Washington’s offerings.
Abraham Harrison took the Institut’s Facebook and Twitter
profiles from a nascent stage and built and strengthened
them in both reach and content. After increasing the
following base, the gains were capitalized by providing
interesting and sharable content and constantly monitoring
and engaging with the audience. A blogger outreach to 800
local bloggers was followed by a “meet and greet” at the
Goethe-Institut Washington to entice the bloggers to spread
the word about about the Institut.
Work on the Institut’s social media properties was shared
and monitored by both the Institut and Abraham Harrison as
a way to achieve immediate goals while also engaging in
experiential training for the Institut staff.
Abraham Harrison also conducted a formal, in-person
training day with the Goethe-Institut Washington staff as a
final step to ensure their team was ready to take on
responsibility for ongoing social media efforts.
4. Abraham Harrison LLC: Case Study – Goethe Institut
Results:
Drastically increased brand awareness via online
mentions and strengthened presence in social
media and the broader Washington, DC
community.
Ensuring an engaged, interactive community was
as important as the aim of increasing the base in
Facebook and Twitter. With the advice of
Abraham Harrison, Goethe-Institut Washington
was able to better understand the users of such
social networking sites and provide interesting
and engaging content. The public is attracted to
these sites not just for information about classes
and events, but also to give their input in
discussions and polls. The Institut is now
connected to the local blogosphere and continues
to build relationships with bloggers interested in
the Institut’s offerings. The staff is trained and the
success has continued as Goethe-Institut
Washington’s online presence continues to grow.
