Godliness: the Path to Real Life

Acts of ungodlineess
Passage Old Testament, “…consecrate yourselves and be holy because I am holy” (Lev. 11:44 NIV). New Testament, “You ought to live holy and godly lives… ” (II Peter 3:11 NIV).
I. Way beyond externalities
Psalm 51:16 “ You do not delight in sacrifice, or I would bring it; you do not take pleasure in burnt offerings.” - KJV “ Going through the motions doesn't please you, a flawless performance is nothing to you”. - The Message
Our own version of “sacrifices” Going to church and giving our tithe Church involvement Adering with the dogmas and fundamentality of the faith Rigidness of lifestyles Doing what is “right” in the eyes of others
Who is more godly
What does God want?
Psalm 51:17 The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit; a broken and contrite heart, O God, you will not despise.51:17 - NIV “ I learned God-worship when my pride was shattered. Heart-shattered lives ready for love don't for a moment escape God's notice.” - The Message
II. Godliness is what we become “ Godliness is more than Christian character. It covers the totality of the Christian life and provides the foundation upon which Christian character is built.” – The practice of godliness, Jerry bridges
Transformation
Who is winning? 5:16-26 we find Two Natures in conflict with each other; “ love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control.” – Galatians 5:22-23 (NIV).
Reflect What is one area of my life that is in dire need to godliless? What one step do in need to do to bring to me closer to becoming like Jesus? Remember, that godliness is a life-long journey that should begin now.
