Objective
A small set of broadly defined long term goals that set out the
business strategy to achieve the Vision. They articulate the purpose
of the business - what it is trying to accomplish and over what time
frame.
Strategic Objectives are a type of Objective within the QOREX
system.
• Five to fifteen of them
• Part of a three to five year strategic plan
• Must be able to be measured by one or more Results
• Not normally a Deliverable, Product or Enabler
• Sit across a number of business perspectives such as: Customer,
Proposition, Capability, Finance

Operational
Objective
A set of specifically defined objectives that set out the operational
business, typically over a year. They are either associated with
business as usual operations or individual portfolios, programmes
and projects of change initiatives. They contribute to the
achievement of the Strategic Objectives.
Operational Objectives are a type of Objective within the QOREX
system.
• From 10s to 1,000s depending on the size and complexity of the
organisation
• To be achieved within a short term (typically up to a year)
• Must be able to be measured by one or more Results
• Not normally a Deliverable, Product or Enabler
• Sit across a number of business perspectives such as: Customer,
Proposition, Capability, Finance

A governance structure by which delivery is managed such as
portfolios, programmes and projects.
• Responsible for managing resources
• Responsible for managing associated budget
• Need to deliver within an agreed timeframe
• Normally has a defined beginning and end
• Has a defined scope of delivery (Enablers and/or Benefits)

Workstream
Perspective Perspectives that segment the business into meaningful dimensions,
often used to determine organisational balance and used to create a
balanced scorecard. Objectives (strategic and operational) are
associated with a specific Perspective.
• More than one and less than ten (usually four)
• Meaningful to help show the balance and delivery success across
an organisation
• The Business Lifesystem® uses four: Customer, Proposition
(products and services), Capability and Finance
