Hollywood has become the most influential film industry globally due to economic, cultural, social, and political factors. After World War 2, Hollywood secured early governmental support and over 35% of its profits came from overseas markets. By the 1980s-1990s, overseas markets greatly expanded due to improved theaters, broadcasting deregulation, and cable/satellite growth. Hollywood also effectively internationalized after WWII with over 50% of revenues from abroad. Dubbing films accelerated foreign consumption. Culturally, Hollywood provided a window into American social life and became part of socialization worldwide through popular films and TV shows. Politically, the global spread of English and internet increased Hollywood's international reach and cultural influence.
