Flood impact assessment in mega cities under urban sprawl and climate change kick-off workshop
#maryannemissing Keep it up!
A story worth telling!

BHSS is an initiative by the University of Botswana medical and nursing students, after recognizing the leadership role they can play in reshaping the healthcare system of Botswana. Based on an understanding of the current national challenges we face as a country, and also acknowledging that young people in all countries are both a major human resource for development and key agents for social change, economic development and technological innovations; they resolved to convene a symposium for all young healthcare students to exchange and forge a reasonable working model given the economic, social and environmental standing of Botswana with key government and civil society stakeholders.
This national 3 day conference is strategically positioned to educate and encourage students of all medical professions in multidisciplinary cooperation, understanding and effective mutual communication, preparing them for a career as professional healthcare specialists. Being the key players and key influence in the healthcare of our country, the students recognize their social responsibility to address the challenges we face in our healthcare system and how they as young people can contribute meaningfully to the growth of our healthcare sector.Youth today has the sheer capacity to effect positive change, a capacity which remains largely untapped. As such the aim is to engage the healthcare students and stakeholders in the discussion of pertinent health issues in the country
The conference which is going to be the first of its kind will enjoy the patronage of the former health minister, Professor Sheila Tlou and who will also give a keynote address on the 5th of December at the official launch of the Botswana healthcare Students Symposium. The symposium aims to address issues of Non-communicable diseases, Health inequalities, Health informatics, Research and the role of youth in healthcare decision making. The conference is going to include Batswana medical students studying both in Botswana and South Africa, UB Nursing students, IHS students, and students from Boitekanelo College. These delegates will be addressed by various speakers among them the Permanent Secretary of the ministry health DrMalefho and the WHO country representative DrNyarko and many other reputable speakers in the field of medicine.

FDA STAMP Conference on CNS Shunts Agenda January 1999Stephen Dolle
Conference agenda for the 1999 STAMP Conference on CNS Shunts and anti siphon devices in Bethesda, MD, brought about by patient advocate Stephen Dolle and his efforts with a 1996 petition to FDA on anti siphon shunts. Dolle oddly was not invited to speak or be a panelist, or to have his new mHealth DiaCeph Test included in the conference. In the years since, CNS shunts have suffered significant medical device and design failures, most of which have not been reported to FDA, which Dolle attributes to the cover ups dating back to this conference. As of 2015, Dolle has undergone 12 shunt operations, with the majority of these caused by failing CNS shunts that were never reported to FDA. The more your know!
The Annual Obstetric Malpractice Conference continues to cover key medico legal obstetric issues, recent cases and offers unique networking opportunities between top obstetricians, midwives, neonatal staff, barristers and other legal professionals.
This is the premier event of its kind in the Asia-Pacific region and has been very well-received over the last 8 years.
No other event brings together such an excellent representation of top obstetric surgeons and barristers and other legal professionals with key addresses from leading obstetricians, midwives and lawyers, making it a key event on the obstetric, midwifery and legal calendar.
Foresight in medicine: research induced society changes in the next decadeCaroline McClain
The 2013 symposium hosts a debate among scientists, doctors, policy makers and epistemologists aimed at identifying forthcoming medical research developments likely to impact on society in the next ten years.
Personalized (or precision) medicine is the changing paradigm and will reshape service contents and delivery modalities. The main clinical areas where major progress is expected are cancer, neurodegenerative disorders, chronic obstructive pulmonary diseases, rare diseases, dysmetabolic and endocrine system related diseases.
Progress in imaging, the application of nanotechnologies, the use of robotics, wired environments and telematics, portable devices, stem cells and new materials will make personalized medicine feasible and affordable. At the same time, epigenetics, pharmacogenomics, synthetic biology will contribute extensively to change further
medicine and its social aspects, and will need to be regulated by a new bioethical approach.

hat tele-microscopy can take advantage of modern, camera-integrated mobile phones with any resolution above 0.8 megapixel, that can be easily used without any adaptor or device, to photograph and send images from a microscope to a reference center for a remote second opinion, also in highly disadvantaged contexts. [2]. We also argued that this approach, i.e. the use of m-phones without any adapter or additional device, to take and send images from a microscope for distant advise and/or educational purposes, that we define MobileDiagnosis, could significantly increase training opportunities and diagnostics’ quality while lowering costs.
