Give two examples of the life history traits of American Robin birds that help to explain their
physiological adaptation for flight (e.g., Do they migrate far distances? Are they aerial
insectivores and need to catch their food in flight?)
Solution
Their wings have a pointed shape, the most common shape for birds that migrate using a flapping
flight. Their tail is medium-length for quick steering as they fly through branches. They fly faster
when migrating than when flying in our backyards.Birds have many adaptations for flight, but
three of the most important are feathers,a hollow and highly modified skeleton and internal
organs capable of moving ample amounts of oxygen to flight muscles.Birds are adapted for flight
with their hollow bones and their huge chest muscles as well as their feathers that help them to
change direction. Birds also have fused bones that make it possible for them to fly with increased
flexibility. All birds have a special system of airways throughout their skeletons and a four-
chambered heart. These organ systems provide the flight muscles with a steady supply of oxygen-
rich blood that prevents their wings from becoming exhausted while the bird is in the air.
Most songbirds and other birds that spend a lot of time in trees are hoppers.Springing forward in
a hop is an efficient way of getting from branch to branch. But on the ground, hopping takes a
little more energy than walking or running.Robins are one of the few species that can do
both.Robins tend to hop when grass is too high to see through.Sometimes they seem to hop just
because they feel like it.One of the movement adaptations for an American Robin like all birds is
their wings to help them move or fly for place to place. They also use their two little legs to catch
food on land because they have to move. They have hallow bodies too.Their hallow bodies make
it easy for them to fly from place to place. This is a very important adaptation in their everyday
life. The American Robin uses their beak to eat. They eat fruits like apples, and fresh oranges
during their breeding time and other rare fruits. They also eat nuts and seeds. They eat
earthworms by digging into the earth with their round and sharp pointed beaks. This is a very
good adaptation for their life style.

Give two examples of the life history traits of American Robin birds.pdf

  • 1. Give two examples of the life history traits of American Robin birds that help to explain their physiological adaptation for flight (e.g., Do they migrate far distances? Are they aerial insectivores and need to catch their food in flight?) Solution Their wings have a pointed shape, the most common shape for birds that migrate using a flapping flight. Their tail is medium-length for quick steering as they fly through branches. They fly faster when migrating than when flying in our backyards.Birds have many adaptations for flight, but three of the most important are feathers,a hollow and highly modified skeleton and internal organs capable of moving ample amounts of oxygen to flight muscles.Birds are adapted for flight with their hollow bones and their huge chest muscles as well as their feathers that help them to change direction. Birds also have fused bones that make it possible for them to fly with increased flexibility. All birds have a special system of airways throughout their skeletons and a four- chambered heart. These organ systems provide the flight muscles with a steady supply of oxygen- rich blood that prevents their wings from becoming exhausted while the bird is in the air. Most songbirds and other birds that spend a lot of time in trees are hoppers.Springing forward in a hop is an efficient way of getting from branch to branch. But on the ground, hopping takes a little more energy than walking or running.Robins are one of the few species that can do both.Robins tend to hop when grass is too high to see through.Sometimes they seem to hop just because they feel like it.One of the movement adaptations for an American Robin like all birds is their wings to help them move or fly for place to place. They also use their two little legs to catch food on land because they have to move. They have hallow bodies too.Their hallow bodies make it easy for them to fly from place to place. This is a very important adaptation in their everyday life. The American Robin uses their beak to eat. They eat fruits like apples, and fresh oranges during their breeding time and other rare fruits. They also eat nuts and seeds. They eat earthworms by digging into the earth with their round and sharp pointed beaks. This is a very good adaptation for their life style.
