Search and Recommendations: 3 Sides of the Same CoinNick Pentreath
Recommendation engines are one of the most well-known, widely-used and highest value use cases for applied machine learning. Search and recommender systems are closely linked, often co-existing and intermingling. Indeed, modern search applications at scale typically involve significant elements of machine learning, while personalization systems rely heavily on and are deeply integrated with search engines. In this session, I will explore this link between search and recommendations.
In particular, I will cover three of the most common approaches for using search engines to serve personalized recommendation models. I call these the "score then search", "native search" and "custom ranking" approaches. I will detail each approach, comparing it with the others in terms of various considerations important for production systems at scale, including the architecture, schemas, performance, quality and flexibility aspects. Finally, I will also contrast these model-based approaches with what is achievable using pure search.
Web analytics involves measuring, collecting, analyzing, and reporting internet data to understand and optimize website usage. It can be used as a tool for business and market research as well as improving website effectiveness. Web analytics applications can also help measure the results of traditional advertising campaigns by estimating how traffic to a website changes after a new campaign launch. Key metrics include the number of visitors and page views, which provide information about traffic and popularity trends useful for market research.

Big Data Explained - Case study: Website Analyticsdeep.bi
This is an example case study showing what big data can mean for a small website that generates just 5000 visits a day.
It all depends on what we want do get from our assets like website traffic. If we only measure the number of people who visited our site, then we do not need to worry about “big data”. We just have to count total visits (5000 a day, 150 000 monthly).
But by using just the simple measure we know nothing about our visitors / customers. So, it pretty useless.
On the following slides we present what a website owner can gain from advanced website analytics and why big data technologies are recommended.
Benefits of a data warehouse presentation by Being topperBeing Topper
A data warehouse provides businesses with immediate access to integrated data from across an organization. LAND USE LAND COVER AND NDVI OF MIRZAPUR DISTRICT, UPRAHUL
This Dissertation explores the particular circumstances of Mirzapur, a region located in the
core of India. Mirzapur, with its varied terrains and abundant biodiversity, offers an optimal
environment for investigating the changes in vegetation cover dynamics. Our study utilizes
advanced technologies such as GIS (Geographic Information Systems) and Remote sensing to
analyze the transformations that have taken place over the course of a decade.
The complex relationship between human activities and the environment has been the focus
of extensive research and worry. As the global community grapples with swift urbanization,
population expansion, and economic progress, the effects on natural ecosystems are becoming
more evident. A crucial element of this impact is the alteration of vegetation cover, which plays a
significant role in maintaining the ecological equilibrium of our planet.Land serves as the foundation for all human activities and provides the necessary materials for
these activities. As the most crucial natural resource, its utilization by humans results in different
'Land uses,' which are determined by both human activities and the physical characteristics of the
land.
The utilization of land is impacted by human needs and environmental factors. In countries
like India, rapid population growth and the emphasis on extensive resource exploitation can lead
to significant land degradation, adversely affecting the region's land cover.
Therefore, human intervention has significantly influenced land use patterns over many
centuries, evolving its structure over time and space. In the present era, these changes have
accelerated due to factors such as agriculture and urbanization. Information regarding land use and
cover is essential for various planning and management tasks related to the Earth's surface,
providing crucial environmental data for scientific, resource management, policy purposes, and
diverse human activities.
Accurate understanding of land use and cover is imperative for the development planning
of any area. Consequently, a wide range of professionals, including earth system scientists, land
and water managers, and urban planners, are interested in obtaining data on land use and cover
changes, conversion trends, and other related patterns. The spatial dimensions of land use and
cover support policymakers and scientists in making well-informed decisions, as alterations in
these patterns indicate shifts in economic and social conditions. Monitoring such changes with the
help of Advanced technologies like Remote Sensing and Geographic Information Systems is
crucial for coordinated efforts across different administrative levels. Advanced technologies like
Remote Sensing and Geographic Information Systems

Changes in vegetation cover refer to variations in the distribution, composition, and overall
structure of plant communities across different temporal and spatial scales. These changes can

Acquisitions workflow when processing a purchase request…Request received. Staff check holdings & vendor availability of item.Staff check funding availability for requested item.Order item. Catalog item. Receive item and notify patron. Many of these steps are now streamlined through GIST and ILLiad. -- However, workflow is often interrupted at the point of checking for budget and funding due to the inaccessibility of this information, usually kept in an ILS or a separate spreadsheet somewhere on your computer. This is where the GIST Acquisitions Manager comes in…
User interface for: Creating budgets Tracking funds Editing vendor information Customizing your collection-building profile
Use the Budget tab to:Create funds and associate usernames with fundsBecause the GIST Acq Manager is the editor for managing the GIST Table data, this is the interface for managing the real-time data which will inform your acquisitions or ILL workflow
Vendor tabUtilize the GIST Acquisitions Manager for keeping track of vendor contact information, billing information and the different web services associated with particular vendorsThink of it like ILL’s Lender Addresses Table, but for Acquisitions!
ConspectusThink of the conspectus as your collection – building profile.Within the GIST Acquisitions Manager addon, the staff can edit and customize your collection building priorities.
So where does all this info go?The GIST Tables data is pulled into the actual order/request when queried
