GISES Requirements
 Have a Partner
 Incorporate ICT Organically
 Do a Substantial Project (~1 quarter full-time
work)
 This includes learning time, prep time,
coordination, implementation, evaluation, etc.
 You’d be surprised just how long you spend on a
project
Have a Partner
 GISES projects must be done with a willing
organization (Nonprofit, NGO, public
institution, civil society group, etc.)
 Must prove cooperation
 Exceptions are possible for exceptional
independent innovations or enterprises
ICT
 ICT component of project must be appropriate
and organic to the issues being addressed
 Not tacked on
 Of a level of sophistication on par with tech
labs above single technologies taught in Tech
Essentials
 Does NOT mean you must use any tech you
learned in EP tech labs
Do a Project
 No Brainer
 You must actually implement a project
 Your project may change significantly from
your expectations during implementation, but
you need to do one
 Should be the equivalent of a quarter-long full-
time internship
Your experience put to words
A handbook for future students
An Item in your portfolio
Project Practicum
What is the Practicum?
 A natural history of your project
 What you did to establish it, prepare for it, do
it, and evaluate it
 A future student could use it to replicate your
project
What Style Should I Write In?
 More like an ethnography than an essay
 Your project is a story, tell us your story
 Should be proofread and checked for clarity
extensively
Structure
 Front Matter
 Personal info, partner info, project vitals
 Project Narrative
 Research and Preparation
 Implementation and Evaluation
 Appendices
 Original Proposal
 Any important docs
 Lessons, correspondences, promo materials, etc.
