TELUS Case Study: GIS for Telecommunicationseventspat
The TELUS TV customer base has tripled over the last two years. To support this growth TELUS initiated a project to liberate data from their spatial data store for TELUS TV marketing, investment and provisioning. This project integrated TELUS corporate data with consumer tools. Consumer tools like Google Maps, Bing Maps and Open Source GIS provide TELUS with a plethora of functionality and data. Like any consumer product, it is not a panacea for corporate users. However, there is a lot of functionality that can be tailored to the needs of utility workflows. Come see specific workflows that show the benefit of mashing-up corporate GIS with Consumer GIS and how others are leveraging consumer GIS to increase their GIS Return on Investment!

United Utilities (UU) is one of the UK’s largest water and wastewater companies with seven million people in the North West of England. UU had been working with an old GIS ‘landscape’ implementation, comprising five separate systems. Without an enterprise GIS platform affording ‘one version of the truth’, there were risks to the business of making decisions based on wrong or missing information. UU embarked on the journey of Linear Asset Management (LAM) programme with an aim to create a future-proof GIS platform and take UU right to the front of the utility industry in terms of leading-edge technology and state-of-the-art information management.
Surveying, categorizing and deciding on the future treatment of the ULVs is the duty of the Directorates of Natural Protection.
Since these institutions lacking resources to perform this task, I have decided to conduct this process voluntarily in the planning area of my Masters Thesis.
Leveraging ArcGIS Platform & CityEngine for GIS based Master PlansEsri India
Sustainable, scalable and future ready urban development is one the key priorities in India as well globally. Major government programs i.e. Smart Cities and Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT) aim to build foundations to achieve this.
For any planned development, master plan is a starting point. A master plan provides a long term blueprint that guides the sustainable planned development of the city. Use of GIS for master planning is not new. GIS-based Master Plans will help in different types of urban planning exercises, e.g. preparation of development plan, zonal plan, utility plan, infrastructure plan, etc. Even Smart City program and AMRUT programs mandate use of GIS for master plan creation.

The objective of this research project is to analyze the opportunities in NGO and Government Sector for a marketing service provider. The research also focuses on deriving value addition to these clients in terms of cost and quality. Competitor analysis is an important aspect of this research.
The methodology followed for this research included two parts such as qualitative followed by quantitative research through one to one interview. Stratified sampling and convenient sampling were preferred for NGOs and Government Sector respectively. Using Factor Analysis three factors were found for NGOs which are Planning & Execution, Technological efficiency and Recruitment and can be outsourced. There are only 10% of NGOs who outsource events whereas 37% want to outsource and rest don’t need any service. Free service is their prime expectation from any service provider. In case of Government Sector perceptual mapping was done to find their perception regarding the efficiency of their current event management process so that their weaknesses could be considered while developing a strategy to approach them. Technology based services like social media promotion, website management, online event planner can be the major value additions to both NGOs and Government Sector as it is still unconquered by them. From competitor analysis it was found that there are some players in the market who provides free services to NGOs. In government sector many of the competitors are having either long term attachment or doing it through tender and bidding.
It is recommended that a marketing service provider should not go for NGOs segment as the margin is less and there are competitors providing free services. For Government sector, it should always hire local language speaking people to deal and it should convey the value addition that can be provided in terms of technology, cost and quality.

Neuro-symbolic is not enough, we need neuro-*semantic*Frank van Harmelen
Neuro-symbolic (NeSy) AI is on the rise. However, simply machine learning on just any symbolic structure is not sufficient to really harvest the gains of NeSy. These will only be gained when the symbolic structures have an actual semantics. I give an operational definition of semantics as “predictable inference”.
All of this illustrated with link prediction over knowledge graphs, but the argument is general.
