A
ustralia’s only resident full-time concert pianist, Gil Sullivan tours
extensively both around Australia and overseas, performing
each year in Asia, Europe, the U.K., and the United States. He has
given recitals in Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall, The Amsterdam
Concertgebouw, The Berlin Konzerthaus, The Bruges Concertgebouw,
Chicago’s Centre for International Performance and Exhibition, New
Hampshire’s Claremont Opera House, the National Opera House of
Vietnam, plus the National Concert Halls of Thailand, Taiwan, Hong Kong,
and Korea and has recorded concertos by Tchaikovsky and Schumann
for CD with the West Australian Symphony Orchestra.
His 2009 tour of Europe included performances in London, Madrid,
Zurich, Spaichingen (Germany), Berlin, Vienna, Budapest, Warsaw, and
Prague. In 2012, he also performed with The Amsterdam Concertgebouw,
The Berlin Konzerthaus, The Bruges Concertgebouw, and at other
concert venues. His performances are notable for their freshness and
spontaneity and challenge to audiences, captivating them with his rich
palette of colors, broad tonal range, and innovative interpretations.
He has been recognized as “The finest interpreter of Mozart in the world.”
(Südhessen Woche - Germany), while the Weinheimer Nachrichten said
of his performance of Brahms’ Second Sonata, “There were so many
magical moments... even Brahms himself would have been impressed.”
After completing his formal education and winning prizes in Australia, Mr.
Sullivan completed his studies with Murray Perahia in London, and Paul
Badura-Skoda in Vienna.
