1. What is Global Entrepreneurship Week?
Global Entrepreneurship Week (GEW) is the world’s largest celebration of entrepreneurship. GEW promotes
entrepreneurship through a network of individuals and organizations that aim to inspire, connect, and equip
entrepreneurs with the tools to bring ideas to life and drive economic growth. GEW 2010 had participation from
104 countries, and GEW 2011 held November 14-20 will be the first year Mongolia will participate in this global
movement. GEW Mongolia 2011 will include competitions, including Startup Weekend 3, special lectures and
talks, and networking gatherings, among other events.
How did GEW begin?
GEW began in 2008 launched by former UK Prime Minister Gordon Brown and Carl Schramm, the president and
CEO of the Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation with 77 countries participating. Today, the event has grown and it
is expected that 2011 will see participation from more than 104 countries. GEW enjoys the endorsement of
political leaders all over the world, including President Barack Obama (US), Prime Minister David Cameron (UK),
President Anibal Cavaco Silva (Portugal), and numerous ministers throughout.
How is GEW funded?
GEW Mongolia 2011 is being hosted by SWMongolia, a Mongolian NGO also responsible for holding the successful
Startup Weekends in Mongolia. The primary sources of funding will be obtained from corporate sponsors and
revenue from admission tickets to some of our events. GEW Mongolia 2011 receives no government funds.

2. What are the GEW Mongolia 2011 events and who do they target/benefit?
1. Wall of Ideas: At each event, we’ll have a wall where people can write on post-its their startup and
innovating ideas to compete for a grand prize at the end of the week.
2. CodeForMongolia: Competition to find IT solutions to government problems benefitting IT students, the
general public, and the government.
3. Car Pool Pitch: Event where people compete to pitch their ideas to prominent Mongolian CEOs during
their car ride to work, allowing them to fine tune their vision, make connections, and find mentors.
4. Young Professionals Cocktail Event: In collaboration with the Mongolian Repat Leaders Club, this is a
networking event where young Mongolians will hear from other young Mongolians who have successfully
started businesses, having an opportunity to make connections and find inspiration to bring their startups
to life.
5. Financial Expo: Expo fair showcasing the different ways entrepreneurs may finance their startups to help
entrepreneurs discover resources to build their businesses.
6. Entrepreneurship Mentor Day: In collaboration with Agaa-Egee, the Mongolian Big Brothers Big Sisters,
this event will bring high school students together with business leaders in a mentorship relationship
designed to inspire and motivate future leaders.
7. Inspiring Minds Talks: In collaboration with the Mongolian Repat Leaders Club, young professionals will
give talks and hold Q&As about entrepreneurship in UB high schools.
8. Starting Point Lecture Series: Lecture series where world leaders and aspiring entrepreneurs will share
their knowledge and experience; all proceeds will benefit orphanages in Ulaanbaatar.
9. Startup Weekend 3: A 54-hour weekend event during which startup enthusiasts in different fields pitch
their ideas for new startup companies, form teams around the ideas, and work to develop a prototype or
presentation to compete as the best idea.
10. Gala Night: Closing event with prominent guests, speakers, and entertainment to celebrate the close of
the first GEW Mongolia.
