The following document presents a top-level outline of the proposed national celebration "National Freelancer's Day".
National Freelancer’s Day (NFD) is a national event to celebrate the contribution of Australia’s increasingly freelance and independent workforce.
The event was born from the culmination of the team’s growing experience working with freelancers and a thirst from the Australian freelance community for the development of a major flagship event. This year will host its inaugural event, with the intention for it to be held annually.
Freelance.org.au is a volunteer-driven social venture dedicated towards development of the freelance/self-employed sector nationwide.
Through education, business events and support services such as legal, finance, business and creative mentoring, we’ve built a loyal community consists of more than 1200+ of Australia's best and brightest creative, digital and technical freelance professionals.

Operating out of a thriving co-working
space in Melbourne, FreelanceAU has
coordinated more than 70 events over
the last 12 months, providing working
and educational opportunities to new,
existing and aspiring freelancers
across the country.

National Freelancer’s Day (NFD), to be held on
29 October 2015, is a national event to celebrate
the contribution of Australia’s increasingly
freelance and independent workforce.
The event was born from the team’s growing

5. NATIONAL FREELANCE DAY 2015
Primarily geared towards creative, technical
and digital professionals, NFD will host a
‘mini-conference’ in the Melbourne CBD on
29 October 2015, where a mixture of
educational, exhibition and networking
opportunities will be available for
freelancers, employers and vendors alike. A
smaller celebration/networking event will be
held in Sydney on the same date.
6. AUDIENCE PROFILE
Facts about our unique audience:
- 100% are business owners
- 95% work in digital, technical and/or creative
professions
- Their no.1 problem is managing their financial
responsibilities.
- Nearly all consider themselves to be “entrepreneurial”
- The average age is 28-40 years old
- All participants agree they “Love what they do”
- The gender distribution is 55% female and 45% male
- 70% are currently working on a startup of some kind
- Most are active travellers or have ambitions to travel.

coverage for the Melbourne and Sydney
events. General Assembly is the official
venue partner for both Melbourne and
Sydney activations.
8. NATIONAL FREELANCE DAY 2015:
“FUTURE PROOF"
The theme for the event is “FUTURE PROOF”, focusing on how
freelancers, independent contractors and soloists can ‘future proof’ their
careers.
The ‘mini-conference’ will run for four hours, starting at 5:30pm and
finishing at 9:30pm. The proposed format currently stands at:
• 5:30pm: Check-in, networking and drinks
• 6:15pm: NFD kickoff and guest speaker “lightning talks”
• 6:45pm: Panel Discussion on how to develop a “Future Proof” freelance
career.
• 8:00pm: Networking, drinks.
• 9:30pm: Close.
