Germplasm Distribution
Introduction
™™ Germplasm samples of all accessions under the multilateral
system (MLS) are supplied free of charge for research and
development, following the Standard Material Transfer
Agreement (SMTA) of ITPGRFA.
™™ Germplasm order forms are used for internal distribution.
™™ Germplasm supplied to researchers outside India is subjected to
Indian Plant Quarantine regulations.
™™ Small quantity of cultivated germplasm of sorghum, pearl
millet and small millets: 3-6 g seeds, 50-100 seeds in case of
chickpea, pigeonpea and groundnut, and about 25 seeds of wild
relatives are supplied.
™™ About 1.4 million samples of germplasm have been distributed
to scientists inside ICRISAT and to others in 145 countries. Mandate crops and small millets germplasm samples distributed
from the ICRISAT genebank.

Germplasm repatriation
™™ The ICRISAT genebank repatriated 55,181 accessions to nine
countries where national collections were lost due to natural
disasters or due to lack of proper storage facilities.
Crop-wise germplasm collections repatriated to different countries
from the ICRISAT genebank.
Distribution – inside ICRISAT
™™ A total of 669,401 samples representing five mandate crops and
six small millets were provided to scientists in various disciplines
at ICRISAT for utilization and screening/evaluation against biotic
and abiotic stresses and quality traits.
