For over 30 years Rautomead Limited has specialised in the design and manufacture of continuous casting equipment for non-ferrous metals and alloys. There are now more than 300 Rautomead machines in operation in over 45 different countries worldwide.
Rautomead plants are being successfully applied to production of oxygen-free copper, a wide range of copper-based alloys, precious metals and zinc. Forms include wire rod, straight length bars, flats and hollow sections. According to material and section, the casting process selected may be vertical upwards, vertical downwards or horizontal. The machines may be used either as integrated melting, holding and casting machines, or may be arranged to be fed with pre-alloyed molten metal.
The Rautomead Continuous Casting System is based on electric resistance heating of its furnaces, with graphite containment crucibles, graphite heating elements and casting dies. This technology is particularly suited for production of high purity, high quality oxygen-free copper and copper alloy wire rods (copper silver, copper magnesium, copper tin).
The upward casting equipment may be used to manufacture rods of all diameters between 8.0mm and 30mm diameter and is suitable feedstock for wire drawing and continuous rotary extrusion processes. End use applications include: superfine wire, automotive wires, contact wire and trolley wires for high speed trains, data communication cables, CTC and transformer strips as well as enamelled wires.
Rautomead’s R&D facility at the factory in Dundee (casting equipment, technicians, design and operational experience) is available to companies who wish to commission experimental and research work to develop technology and tooling for the manufacture and processing of new alloys and materials. economy, contributing around 20 percent of all gross domestic product (GDP). The
industry represents over 30 percent of passenger cars manufactured, close to 20

13. Founded in 1913, BMW started building airplane engines in 1917.
In 1923, BMW started building motorbikes and eventually in 1928
they started with the production of cars. Shortly after the
Second World War, BMW's factories were dismantled by the
Allied Forces and the company was only allowed to manufacture
household utensils and bicycles.
In 1950 BMW returned to the production of cars. After a slow start, the company
focused on luxury cars, becoming one of the most admired carmakers in the world.
The parent plant of the BMW Group is located in the north of Munich, directly at the

31. In 2005 the Aachen Engineering Centre (AEC), located in Wegberg,
opened with responsibility for power train development, especially
diesel fuel injection and exhaust gas after-treatment systems. Since
2010 this Centre has started work on ECU hardware and software
development as well as working on components for Electric Vehicle

(VDA) consists of more than 620 companies
involved in production for the automotive industry in
the Federal Republic of Germany.
The members are divided into three manufacturer groups automobile manufacturers,
automotive suppliers, and trailers, special bodies, buses. These three manufacturer
groups find their representation in three divisions each assigned a managing director.
More than 70 employees in 20 departments actively pursue the interests of the German
automotive industry. The President, Matthias Wissmann, heads the VDA which has its
headquarters in Berlin.
The German Association of the Automotive Industry (VDA) nationally and internationally
promotes the interests of the entire German automotive industry in all fields of the motor
transport sector, for example in international trade and economic, transport and
environmental policy, technical legislation, standardizing and quality assurance. To an

42. The origins of the IAA can be traced back to more
than 100 years. In 1897, 8 motor vehicles were
exhibited to the public at the Bristol Hotel in Berlin.
From these humble beginnings, a regular exhibition was established that, due to its high
visitor turnout, had to be separated into an alternating exhibition of passenger cars and
commercial vehicles in 1991. In odd-numbered years the IAA Cars is held in Frankfurt;

IAA Hannover Event 2016
The “New Mobility World logistics” will be held for the first time at the
66th IAA Commercial Vehicles in Hanover (22 - 29 September 2016).
The goal of the initiative is to map out digitization, new logistic
concepts, offers and services of the exhibitors in the commercial
vehicles sector even more clearly and to address new companies and
visitor groups.
“The New Mobility World logistics aims to create a content framework
that fosters discussion and new contacts. After all, new and future-
oriented themes are distinctly more dialogue-intensive”, said Matthias
Wissmann, President of the VDA, talking about the further
development of the IAA in Hanover.
The content of the conceptual framework will be mapped by the five
thematic areas of Connected Vehicle, Assisted & Automated Driving,
Alternative Powertrain, Urban Logistics and Transport Services. Within
this framework there will be various programs presenting these
thematic fields and the matching products of the IAA exhibitors. They
will include a separate congress programme with discussion forums,
such as for instance the carIT Congress, and events focusing on “Last
Mile” topics or networked and automated driving.
On the “Pitching Day” for start-up companies young enterprises will for
the first time be given an opportunity to present their ideas and
solutions at the IAA and establish contacts with the commercial vehicle
industry. All the events will take place in the congress section in Hall 19
and be accompanied by exhibitions with opportunities for non-industry
companies and start-ups to make presentations too.
In addition, the IAA exhibitors can participate in guided tours round the
IAA that reflect their themes. Innovations, services and products can
thus be presented appropriately. Interested visitors from the specific
target group will be taken to the exhibitors’ stands on such tours.
In the “New Mobility World LIVE” demonstration area, exhibitors will be
presenting products, services and applications in live demonstrations.
Trial drives with electric commercial vehicles will also be possible.
